I like how the one song here has a double meaning.
"What is the use of feeling blue?" No reason to feel sad, look for what makes you feel better.
"What is the use of feeling, Blue?" No feelings, only logic. Telling Blue to ignore all feelings.
'Famethyst' is honestly so wholesome, because our Amethyst, from a certain point of view, can be viewed as a metaphor for the adopted/foster kid. We've seen she has issues with how she relates to her foster family, and though they've worked on these issues, they're still wounds that run deep. Now she meets the 'birth family' she only ever had the faintest idea of, and she fits in so easily. They love and accept her immediately, without hesitation or prejudice, and are willing to put themselves on the line to help her solely because she's one of them. Powerful stuff.
The "adopted/foster kid" theme runs ESPECIALLY DEEP when you factor in that her VA, Michaela Dietz, was adopted as a child, and that's why Amethyst is such a deeply personal character to her. I was adopted too, and the sentiment of "I never ASKED for it to be this way! I never asked to be MADE!" is painfully familiar to me during hard times in my life.
For all the W's and L's Pearl takes throughout the series, Pearl absolutely destroying Holly Blue at the end of That Will Be All is SO satisfying!

Remember the episode where Peridod belittled Pearl because she was "just a Pearl"?
She tried to get rid of her by clapping and saying "that will be all".
Man. it's SO COOL to see that kids are being introduced to names like Patti LuPone. A TITAN of musical theater. Props to the show and LuPone for getting her/her being willing to voice this role.
Lisa Hannigan and a few other greats too! I want to name another one as well, but that would be spoilers! Let's just say she's a great big shining star (wink)
The way Yellow Dimond's voice breaks in "Don't you know I miss her too?" T.T Been there sis.
Both blue and yellow diamond are clearly suffering from pink diamond's shattering, they just grief differently and both in extreme ways, blue diamond shows her emotions openly and creates memorials for pink and it seems like that's all she does these days while yellow buries her feelings, throws herself into work and would like to get rid of everything reminding her of pink.
Just like Steven's family struggles with Rose.
With the human zoo breeding population I think it's just a case of cartoon scale, similar to how in a video game RPG what feels like a vast plain is really the size of a football field when you pay attention. Or like how Beach City has a population the size of a high school class. I think we can assume they have a large enough population and it's shown to us as smaller for convenience. Also we probably didn't see the whole zoo - that station is big and the area we saw was not.
I love Yellow Diamond's song. Is has a sort of alien sound to it, because of course it's sung by aliens. But it's also very relatable and excellently conveys Yellow's feelings on the subject, which are not straightforward.
Y'know, the silliest thing is that Amethysts, Jaspers, Carnelians are all Quartzes, like Rose is. But guess what? Agates, including ones like Holly Blue Agate, are ALSO Quartzes! LOL So Holly Blue is just talking down to Gems who are of the same purpose and abilities as her, just because she outranks them. Let's face it, she only tops them in rank, not intelligence.
Ah yes, the great Patti Lupone finally gets to flex her singing as Yellow Diamond. And Gem Heist/That Will Be All is so fun
Gem Heist is my favorite episode. It was way too funny and Holly Blue Agate is such a drama queen

I always loved when Amethyst rejoins her original unit. I felt the same way when I got to my first duty station. Finally in the spot where you are were your job is, with your fellow soldiers. I wish they would have gave Blue Agate a bush hat, shes just like a drill sergeant.
First of all, thank you for your service! Second, I never made that analogy before; I always just kinda likened it to being an adopted child, meeting your biological family for the first time once you find them as an adult. Then you realize you actually have a lot of things in common hehe!
I Loved these episodes!
The thing about the human zoo is that it's not much different from real-life Earth zoos. I'm no expert on zoos -- I've only watched (dozens of) episodes about zoos on Animal Planet -- but of course they try to control when the animals eat, what they eat, when they sleep, and yes, who they mate with, in order to keep the genetic diversity as high as possible. This often involves coordination among zoos and moving animals from one zoo to another, whereas on SU there's only one human zoo, so the genetic pool is smaller, hence the extra care in the "choosening" process. Zoos also try to keep the animals happy, naturally -- although modern zoos try to improve on that by giving animals mental stimulation, whereas I don't remember anything like that in this episode. Earth zoos also serve another purpose, to preserve animals that are endangered in the wild, and you can sort of say the same thing about the human zoo -- except of course it's the direct actions of the Diamonds that are endangering the human species to begin with! 😅All in all, though, this zoo is not too bad for being run by a species with seemingly no regard for organic life.

On Earth, human zoos were totally a real thing, one of the various gross examples of colonialism. Even in the U.S. Look up Ota Benga in the Bronx Zoo if you want to feel a bit worse about the USA.
At least we're not as bad as the European empires that started the transatlantic slave trade. Thankfully the Union had the gumption to overthrow our home grown slave-lords and begin the recovery, Tis a multi-generational mission.

Introducing the Famethyst.and the Zoomans
Have either Kat, or Paula ever watched "Time Jam: Valerian & Laureline"? It reminds me a bit of "Steven Universe", mixed with a bit of Doctor Who, time travel elements. My favorite anime was always "The Mysterious Cities of Gold", because it went to actual locations, and meet real tribes, while also having fantasy elements like flying solar powered Condor, and the documentaries at the end of each episode. Sadly, only seasons 1 and 2 {1982 and 2012} are translated into English. Seasons 3 and 4, {2016, 2021}, I had to buy the French versions.
