  • A simple but detailed lesson on the extraction of aluminium from bauxite.This video is based on the O'level chemistry syllabus. It covers the uses and properties of aluminium, the purification of bauxite and the electrolysis of alumina. It is carefully created with beautiful animation to make it interesting to learners.
    It is recommended for candidates preparing for the WASSCE, NECO/SSCE, NABTEB, IGCSE, JAMB and Post-UTME chemistry examinations

    can i ask u why at 3:35 al(oh)3 doesnt react with naoh since according to my knowledge, al(oh)3 is amphoteric

    • @TheScienceChefAcademy
      @TheScienceChefAcademy  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Of course Al(OH)3 reacts with NaOH, but in a saturated solution of NaAl(OH)4, Al(OH)3 can be crystallized out of the solution when pure crystals of the hydroxide are added. We call it the ion concentration effect; that is, when the concentration of a particular ion is very high in a given solution, the ion will be precipitated from that solution.

      Add pure crystals of aluminum hydroxide to the saturated solution of sodium aluminate (III) and allow it to cool to room temperature. You will achieve your precipitation.
