Beautiful! To those who say you cannot worship God in this way, just remember: Man looks at the outward appearance, but God looks at the heart. True worship comes from the heart and not from the outward expression
I saw him play Keaggy's "The Reunion" when he was just a teen lad @ St Louis family Church, his performance was quite impressive!! I remember I brought a Jackson guitar to church that I wanted to sell and Michael just drooled over it, here it is years later and I hear him on the radio ! :)
I'm never disappointed when I hear/watch music from Gungor. God has blessed him mightily with musical talent. Thank you Gungor, for sharing your God given talent with the rest of the world! =)
Marlon Correa Yes, it is this Bach piece, but performed by Gungor in D Major. For those interested in learning a version of the Bach piece, there are two good sources: 1. Consider the second volume of Christopher Parkening's classical guitar method book. His arrangement of Bach is quite similar to Gungor's choice for left hang fingering here. 2. Mel Bay produces a lovely version of the entire cello suite (also in D Major) transcribed by Michael Lorimer, in 1973. Hand it to Mister Gungor. He is a virtuous guitarist who took two wonderful and well-known melodies (Bach and the Doxology) and made a lovely variation.
I talked with his wife Lisa when he led worship at Acquire the Fire. She mentioned he took lessons from Keaggy, thus the stylistic similarity. He's got talent. Love it.
I had the privilege of going to college with Michael. Oral Roberts University, to be exact. He was training classically and playing for our chapel services and even arranged our entire Christmas program before he was even out of high school. (His dad is a pastor who sometimes preached at ORU) As far as I can remember, he didn't really lead worship much at ORU, but he was on the worship team. Very humble. Very nice guy. I'm so glad to see God using Michael for His glory. :)
This will piece will always be in my heart. I just recently re-discovered after years and I just got so inspired. Not really sure what’s happen harmonically but the hand control he has it’s pretty amazing. Def I’ll try to learn this one
Woah lots of legalistic comments. Ease up modern-day Pharisees. For me this is a very good form of worship and a good demonstration of musicality. Why? 1) The Bible tells us to play skillfully to the Lord (Psalm 33:3) and he did just that. 2) The main theme of the piece brings to mind a very powerful hymn of praise. When you hear the tune, regardless of style, you know that it's a song of praise. 3) No one can assume that he played it just to show off because only God sees his heart (although come to think of it, there's nothing wrong with showing off as long as the heart points to God's glory). Remember that God gave us talents to enrich and to "show off" and not bury under the ground to hide it (Parable of Talents). 4) This style of composition is not uncommon, in fact classical composers had been using it for centuries. There's this concept in music called "theme and variation" and that's what he used (loosely speaking) in this particular work. In this piece he used the tune of the traditional Doxology as his theme (with a hint of Bach as introduction) and does variations to it in the middle and then he goes back to the main theme to end it. It's kinda like what Mozart did on his variations on the "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star" (again, loosely speaking). I admire the creativity of the work because it's hard to compose variations (I'm currently majoring in Music Performance but I honestly find it hard to compose. Well, it's not my major anyway). 5) Check your Theology. Can the devil create music? Of course not! God is the only creator. The devil can only pervert what God created to be good in the 1st place. So regardless of the genre, if it was composed to glorify God then it glorifies God.
John Carlo Nafarrete I agree with pretty much everything you said, except two things. The Parable of the Talents is not a reference to our earthly talents, but to the heavenly, spiritual riches he has entrusted to us and the ability he has given us to spread the kingdom of God. Talent in the original language refers to a sum of money equal to approximately twenty years wages for a worker. To take the historical term talent which was a measurement of money and compare it to a homonym in English language that means something completely different is a misrepresentation of the message of the parable of the Talents, although God can definitely use our earthly talents to bring Him glory. Also, Satan can definitely make music. Trust me, there is definitely some demonic stuff out there straight from the pits of hell.
I do agree that this is a great musical exposition of a classic liturgy though, and I really enjoy it and am trying to learn how to play the song myself. Best wishes to you!! Blessings.
I dont know what else to say about this....its amazing!! I love the changes from the soft chord fingering to suddenly turning a little "rocky". this is awesome
This is a wonderful variation on Ps 150 where we are called to praise God on all kinds of instruments. Michael produces all sorts of styles all on one guitar. That is the same principle and just soooo Biblical :) Why not praise the Creator with creativity? Hallelujah!!
The beginning was from Bach's Prelude in D (BWV 1007) for cello. The rest is from the "Old Hundredth", usually shortened to "Doxology" in Christian hymnals.
@baergal @stephenyouthguy I had the privilege of going to college with Michael. Oral Roberts University, to be exact. He was training classically and playing for our chapel services and even arranged our entire Christmas program before he was even out of high school. Gifted- yes, and a hard worker.
PRAISE GOD! He is so merciful and kind. This is really a great example of someone using their talents to glorify God! I love it. All praise to God. God is so loving and living. He has really been doing awesome things in my life. If anyone is interested in talking about the love of God, send me a message or something. I would love to testify of God's goodness and love to everyone! If you need prayer, message me. Love you all.
Sometimes the best way to worship is doing what you were created to do! Gungor is doing just that! They have been gifted with such talent! So thankful they're using it to further the kingdom! :)
Some of y'all need to stop being so RELIGIOUS and JUDGEMENTAL! As a musician, I love this artist, because of course it can glorify God! The spirit of God is living within us, and when we worship in our hearts it glorifies God! I am SO GRATEFUL for the gift of all kinds of music, and especially for creative music like THIS, that isn't the same old boring thing that could put anyone to sleep in a stuffy old pew.
It's an Olson. Same brand that Phil Keaggy uses though it may be a different model. Olson generally makes each guitar according to what the purchaser wants in terms of wood, decorative work, etc. They are individually handmade and there's a bit of a wait. If you have an extra $10,000 kicking around you can order one...
What a great display of talent, all for the glory of God! Not to take anything away from the Christian artists like Chris Tomlin and others, but they could never ever play a song in this manner. I am a worship leader myself and am stunned at the skill of this guy. Simply amazing!
@Casander Bro.. I think making a tab for this would be the eighth wonder of the world.... But I hope God Blesses heavily the person who will undoubtably do it :)
@samuy08 Yes, it's drop D. He always plays in drop D, whether he's playing acoustic or electric guitar. It allows for some weird (but awesome!) stuff. :D
Why do people feel the need to tear others down in order to build someone up. Different people worship in different ways, but the important thing is that they are worshiping God, not how simple or how complicated the worship is. God is honored with anything we do as long as we do it for His glory and not ours. This is great worship music, but no greater than Chris Tomlin or others. It is the heart that makes it great. Not the music!
Ridiculous. Chords that don't really exist... : )
Thanks for continuing to bend our minds!
Beautiful!

There are no words for just how utterly spectacular that was.
the beginning is like a bach melody... I love it.
Indeed it does. It's Bach's 1st Suite in the key of G major. Good ear!

I sat in awe watching this video time after time! My Love for God continuously grows =]
I'm reminded of David playing his heart to rid Saul of evil spirits, pretty epic.
That is totally why I am listening after a ridiculous conversation I just went through!
That was absolutely jaw dropping.
This will piece will always be in my heart. I just recently re-discovered after years and I just got so inspired. Not really sure what’s happen harmonically but the hand control he has it’s pretty amazing. Def I’ll try to learn this one

Perfect beautiful reflections... ✌🎸🎶💜
Favorite version so far... augh... so awesome... I love the insano picking and the wide array of phrasing. Really captures a plethora of emotions.
I can totally watch this and not get tired of it. This man has talent!
Gungor is a band that takes the word "excellence" and "musicianship" to a whole new level.
Thank-you for this. I've been trying to word this the way you did for a few weeks now and just have not been able to put it into words.
Such a big fan of your work! Praise God.
I dont know what else to say about this....its amazing!! I love the changes from the soft chord fingering to suddenly turning a little "rocky". this is awesome
One of the greatest i've ever seen. :)

Praise God from whom all blessings flow, indeed!
I'm a lover of good guitar pickin', specifically, acoustic arpeggio. Really great, great job, Michael.
WOW! That is amazing!!! He has a good given gift that was practiced a lot!
Wow! Thanks Michael.
Thanks! I couldn't place my finger on it. But I knew I recognized a Bach there. Love how it incorporated that in to the song.

This is beyond awesome. Such talent and creativity in this, and all of Gungor's music, makes the world a better place while glorifying God. Wonderful.

so great to see Christian musicians who are committed to pushing themselves beyond pop music and simple worship tunes!

Big Ron
Chris Parkening!!! I am so glad I am not the only one!
AWESOME!!! :-)
Awsome!!
You cant get better than that!
Love the Bach!
I think the 8 dislikes were from Jamaicans who thought "dislike" meant "dis I like". there is no way someone could hate this.

So sad to see how he and his wife have strayed so far from the one true God. 😔 this is still so beautiful
pretty sure they've recently rediscovered their faith. their new album I think goes through that journey coming back to their faith.
@@jamiematthews5942 sadly no
Has he gone full athiest or just in deconstruction?
How did it happened?
No need to throw that in there.. unless ur their close brother/sister don’t speak about their lives smh
Beautiful! Anyone else notice though that the mic used is the 58?
@samuy08 Yes, it's drop D. He always plays in drop D, whether he's playing acoustic or electric guitar. It allows for some weird (but awesome!) stuff. :D
