Tunstall was an awesome place in the 1980's. There was such a hustle of foot trade. The local businesses at lunch time & buzz of people enjoying life. Great video!
I love your opinions my great nan had the same hope and love for tunstal she would always go on about how much potential tunstal has and how beautiful the Victorian architecture I love your videos keep on going
Brilliant subject, so well done, thanks. Couple of points about some of your questions. Rates continue to be paid on empty buildings unless they are occupied by charities. No incentive for local government to do anything to help small business if they keep being paid by rates. Much of the decline in equally deprived areas was halted in the 80’s and 90’s recession by groundswell of action demanded by local populace. My hubby is from up north. What local people have demanded from their local government is extraordinary. As a foreigner and an Urban sketcher, I love the buildings in Stoke. Hopefully more interest from locals about their hometown will spring into activism to pressure government.
I lived in clandon avenue during my school years, and worked at William Adams pottery in furlong road as a printer and Alexandra pottery,I visited tunstall last year I couldn't believe how much its gone down bank 😮
Great video! If you haven’t already I recommend you read When I Was A Child by Charles Shaw, it’s his story of growing up in Burslem and he talks of Tunstall and Hanley. 😊
I seam to remember there used to be marks on the pavement too, signifying graves. Maybe the top of furlong road was built on part of the graveyard. Forget now.
If you look at the road around the church, very close to the pavement, there are small metal crosses in the road. From what I understand, they indicate the original boundary of the church, before the road was widened at Furlong road
Sadly we have a double whammy of poor city council management and lack of national government funding - It's no wonder that a large chunk of people from stoke do not vote in elections. My only hope is that the city council get there act together to reform their operations and attract investment into some of these once thriving towns. It's so sad to see.
The buildings are listed and are to expensive to repair and too many hoops to jump through. However if it gets beyond the point of no return they can be demolished and rebuilt cheaply.
Great video ,they had planning for the flats above the post office . i looked at doing work there ,its a right mess now Nothing has been done for yrs on them now Tunstall drug problem is maseive Keep up good work

You're doing a fantastic job of promoting a wonderful city. I'm proud to be a born and bred Stokie. Even though I was technically born in Castle!
Much appreciated!
Your enthusiasm for the traditional is infectious great vlog😊
Thank you very much! More videos in the pipeline! :)
