I finally made this and it was fantastic! My wife said "I would eat this every day". I couldn't get all the great vegetables you have because I live in the desert but I figure using what you got is part of the recipe. I put sweet potato, butter beans, peanut, plantain, okra and gai-lan (halfway between broccoli and cabbage). I even bought some veggie chunks but I forgot to put them in. 😅
Awesome, this looks great. As a vegetarian, I love this option. Your channel has variety and I enjoy all your videos because of the vibrant colors and natural food.
I love this type of stew but extremely expensive here in the states. The one bowl you just made will cost $13 dollars. And if you want drink with it, it will be $16. Thanks for blessing us with this fine eating.
Rasta Culture was way ahead of their time when it came to diet and culture and recently mainstream society is just beginning to caught up. Big up to Rasta Masses around the globe. M 😊😊😊
Nick that looks so delicious. I've never tried vegi chunks before. No doubt i will try them one day but that Ital stew 😋 is a must try. Thank you Nick for another inspirational teaching session. Blessings and more blessings. One love 💙 ❤️ 🇯🇲 💯
Thank you for yet another delicious, and delightful recipe. I will certainly make it, if I am able to source all of the ingredients. Where I reside. West Indian produce. Is rarely available! Please continue to share your vegan, plant based recipes, as they become a wonderful addition to my cooking needs.
👏🏽👌🏽thats so cool!! ive seen quite a few common styles and varities of food preparations with India. this dish is very similar to the avial made in Kerala & Tamil Nadu in India
Nice health meals, however it would be nice if you reval your entire boby! Your is just like mine I use lots of fresh herbs and garlic, keep preparing healthy and delicious food .
As is the norm. A very enticing dish! Sadly, where I I reside. Some of the ingredients. Will be unattainable. However, watching this footage. Must suffice. I find the allure of Jamaican plant based cuisine. Very enticing. Well done Nick!
beautiful food for the soul. I use soya chunks instead of meat and tofu, the only thing is the ground provisions for carbs. I love them but I avoid them. very healthy for my dieting and my intermittent fasting. thank you for sharing. Blessing. Toronto Canada.
That's a beautiful garden in the intro. I'm starting my thyme, shadow benny, scallion, bell peppers and scotch bonnet indoors right now and cannot wait to get this Cali grow season started. Why not grow your own garden now? You seem to enjoy it so much, and we all know how you like to cook.
I plan to start it soon. I have limited space where I am now but I will be getting some pots and maybe make a raise bed to plant all the stuff I frequently use!🙏🏽
I thought I was the only one who left the skin on the calabaza. If I’m peeling it to serve to someone who is fancy, I eat the green peels as a crunchy snack. Delicious! Then I see we have the same dishes! Ha! My husband cuts and polishes our bowls. Food is better, and with the spoons and forks he carves from wood, it’s beyond compare. Not a fan of that textured vegetable protein though. Yours has a different name but same thing. Too processed for my preference but I’ll say you prepare a beautiful stew.
Hello there. If I'm using a canned coconut milk should I get the sweetened or unsweetened? Or does it matter. I tried this recipe today (half way, I didn't have all the ingredients) with vegetable odds and ends in my fridge as you suggested and I added some chick peas I boiled. It was yummy 🤤. Now I wanna get all the right stuff lol. Thanks in advance, I love cooking your food 🫶🏾
Great video! I have been recently making ital stew for the first few times and really love it. I like how you made yours a lot. I would love to see how you do the coconut milk, do you have a video that teaches us how to do that, and what to do with the pulp once we strain it? Mine turns our delicious but it "breaks" and there are some tiny white spots that fleck the stew. No big deal but just wondering if I am doing something wrong. Thanks again. Peace and Love! ---sorry, I just watched the hominy corn porridge video where you go over it. thanks.
I have a few videos where I make coconut milk from scratch, two good ones are the Brown Stew Oxtail video where I put it in rice and peas and the Blue Drawers video. Coconut milk breaks when you add it to the pot at too high of a temperature. To prevent that just reduce the heat to low then add the milk and let it simmer. It happens to me from time to time but as you said it's not a big deal... It's more of a presentation thing. Hope that helps!
No sure how that would work. I get the dry coconuts on the ground and inside is full of hard coconut meat . And make the milk. I feel it wouldn’t work well with the rubbery meat
Recipes are annoying to write because I focus heavily on technique, being flexible and making adjustments as you cook.Every recipe would be unnecessarily long especially when I am detailing the method (look at my Beef Patty Recipe in the description) Unless it's something like pastries where you need accurate measurements to get certain results I don't really write recipes. I could do an ingredients list though 🤔
It's good to eat nutritious food but we also eat because we get pleasure from eating but that's not true though... White rice contains carbs, protein, vitamins and minerals
First off rice is not naturally white. Which means it’s bleached with the same chemicals you have in your cleaning pantry. Those nutrients are stripped through the bleaching process. It may be “Enriched” with nutrients which means made nutrients were added. Quinoa is much better substitute
I'm not arguing for or against white rice. I'm simply saying that it having 0 nutrients isn't true and bleaching and enriching lengthens the shelf life of items like rice and flour making them more accessible to more people for longer, the nutrient density of brown products is great but it makes them extremely perishable... there's a bit of nuanced but I do agree with you Quinoa is king👌🏾
The nutrients that is left is not sufficient for your diet. That’s what I mean 0 nutritional value. Processing simply means stripping natural nutrients for it to have a longer shelf life. We need to get away from believing food should last that long. Not here to argue my friend just here to gain knowledge and spread love through food.
I do love REAL SEA SALT OR HIMALAYAN PINK SALT. IT HAS AROUND 52 MINERALS VS. TABLE SALT WITH JUST 2 MINERALS. 🤝☺️ I also find it helps my body keep the water vs. having to use the restroom so much with Drinking "dead" water. I buy distilled but I realized my body was just passing the water through..and I found out how real sea salt helps the water get into the cells of the body. #WeAreTheSaltOfThe Earth 🤝🤌🏾
Today is my first day on this channel an mi watch almost every video already 😂

Wow😅...guess I need to make a lot more then!

You said "Dried thyme is a scam" and I hit the subscribe button. 😂
My mother used to make this for my brothers and I when we were children. She isn't Rasta, but she is Jamaican
i dont recall ever rehydrating soya chunks with room temp water to alter the texture. i'm gonna try that
Chocolate Habanero! My Man!!! This is by far my favourite one, such nice smoky flavour.

I might make a video on how to make coconut milk🤔
@@feedandteach perfect. thanks again. I made your jerk salmon with mango salsa and we went wild over it.
yup! I was surprised how good it was myself😄
This looks delicious! I thought Rastas don't eat canned beans because they are processed and that goes against Ital. Is that true?
Yes. Usually Rasta don't eat processed foods. Typically they would use fresh beans
@@feedandteach -Ok. Thanks.
👍🏾np
I made this, it's bomb!! Ital is vital!
Nice!
The brand beans look like butter beans?
Awesome grub
Wow look so good❤👍🏼

Great episode thank you! I have access to fresh coconuts - how do we prepare them for cooking? Do we use them green - blend coconut water and flesh? 💖
@@feedandteach thank you 🙏

Fos lanmou limiè respé de Karukéra
If i picked thyme from your garden and dehydrated it using a dehydrator, how is that a scam?
Nothing beats fresh thyme...you would be scamming yourself
Ital is Vital!!!
Yes I !💯

ayo, ital is supposed to be no salt though
