Seixal is the village my father was born in. I used to spend summer holidays there with my grandmother when I was a teenager. Wonderful place! My grandmother used to hitchhike from Seixal to Porto Moniz to fetch her pension once a month. She was very fit.
Madeira is so stunning. It's Europe's answer to Hawaii...minus the sand beaches. But you've yet to know the Porto Santo island with a beautiful 9km beach. 😀

As portuguese from Porto,with an age of 33, i have visited madeira for the first time last month. I have been in around 40 countries, and when i left madeira, it was the first time i felt sad for leaving. Ive stayed a week near salesianos school/church, view Over Funchal bay but ive traveled all around the island. Porto de Moniz is perfect. I advise everyone to visit and i can Tell you i want also to move to Madeira Island. If i can get a job and can go with my 2 dogs, thats it for me.

If you are still in Madeira and want to try a very good traditional food, I recommend you go to a restaurant called "La Parreira" in Campanario, it is a different concept but it is an experience that you will enjoy!

Another thing that I love about Madeira is that even though there are tourists, it’s still a very quiet place. We live in Funchal, and the streets are never crowded. I’m glad Americans haven’t discovered us yet!😂😂

I found a small rock pool in Porto Dinheiro (just south of Lourinha - which I love). I was there in the winter, so no idea if the water is quite the same blue that you experienced. Before you shared the info about that road (10:40) I was wondering if that was some kind of old road. Wholly Crap... No Freaking Way! I'm with you Joen, thank goodness you don't have to worry about THAT.

If you did go to from Ponta Delgada to Boaventura, the streets still are from the beginning of the XX century, narrow street near the coast with space enough just for one car, imagine if come a bus in the opposite direction

Went to Madeira 2 years a go, did all of the island from West to East, just stunning. Volcano caves, drop views, high mountains, great food. My favourite Ponta de São Lourenço, pure peace.

Why do tourists always speak in spanish when try to speak Portuguese?
Portuguese come from Galician-Portuguese language and Castilian (spanish) come from Vulgar Latin.
In Madeira some of us still speak like in ancient ways, so our Portuguese is older than the one from Mainland Portugal. But don't worry because we understand any kind of Portuguese.
I just still don't get why tourists speak in Spanish when Spanish and Portuguese can be compared to Danish and Norwegian. Both came from the same ancestral language, are written very similar but are different from each other in the way are pronounced!
I understand you. The same happens here in Brazil. Foreign tourists usually read and pronounce our Portuguese words the same way as in Spanish.
Dude...it was literally a single mistake that they had. Their Portuguese is getting pretty good honestly. I really doubt they use the word "hungry" in everyday sentences. So it was an honest mistake to use "hambre" rather than "fome."
Also, you do realize that technically the history of the Portuguese language points to it being a "Vulgar Latin" language as well right? It didn't become its own entity until around 1290 after the creation of the first Portuguese university. Now languages have clearly evolved since the medieval period, so I highly doubt that anyone still speaks the exact same language as they did when it was first created, including those on Madeira.
@@markclemente1503 I am Madeiran/Portuguese!! I am not criticising their fluency or lack of it, I just said that they mix Portuguese with Spanish and speak more spanish than the language of the place.

If people learn Spanish ok good. Just make sure to talk Portuguese when in Portugal otherwise speak just in English !!

Joen and Amalie, my husband and I are really enjoying your videos. We have been watching a number of them but your vlogs from Madeira are spectacular. However, we are a little biased. My husband was born in Madeira (he moved to Canada when he was six) and we have visited Madeira three times now and plan to go back in January, 2020. The video you get from your drone is amazing and provides scenery that we wouldn't have been able to see. Just wanted to point out, because I wonder if you did it on purpose, but at 7:41 in this video the cars are going backwards. Done on purpose? Keep up the fantastic work!!!
