Did the surge protected TV last after all those surges? You would not think the surge protector would be working after the second surge.

Most surge protectors use MOV's (metal oxide varistors). These are able to shunt surges to ground and allow normal power to flow into the output sockets. However, the MOV's get worn out with each surge. Eventually they'll fail and won't protect from surges. Most surge protectors also have a fuse for extremely large surges and for general over draw, these would of course cut the power completely.

is there any surge protector which don't degrade or external fuse can be added later without throwing whole protector

If you want to actually protect your computer, TV etc. your best bet is a double conversion online pure sinewave ups, not a crappy line interactive unit, or a even more crappy approximated sine wave ups, a double conversion unit from liebert, Eaton or apc combined with a Furman ac 215a feeding it " which is an actual professional quality surge protector is the way to go" 1500 VA "1350w" is as large as you can get for a 15 Amp 120v outlet when it comes to ups backups.

I just moved international from the US. I am using GoHz 3KVA digital solid state voltage converter that also gives pure sine wave outlet. I plan to plug in APC 3000C UPS and then to my computer via Belkin metal case power strip. Is furman still needed? Thanks.

    thats is amazing.
i have a generator that fluctuates a lot do you think this would protect my laptop if i plugged it into a belkin surge protector then into the generator

Nah it won't, get a voltage regulator.

@@gtaclassic6098 I’m still here, a trained electrical engineer now. Answer is it wouldn’t help as the voltage spike from a generator wouldn’t be large enough to cause the MOV to conduct.

@@DrivinginNewYorkCityNYC The surge protector you got is perfect. It is rated for more than enough joules. Usually if you need a surge protector for your computer it needs to be rated at 1000 joules or above.

Check your grounding system. If the surge protector is not properly grounded, it won't do its job.
