Just applied 3 coats of mohs and 1 of skin on my new BBS XA and they look spectacular.
Thanks for this video. It’s a pretty good feeling watching this video and realizing that I literally have and used all the products featured in this video. Thanks so much for introducing them to the Detailing industry. Polish angel SuperSport is a great compromise to those that aren’t ready for a full coating.
But to be honest, when I paint mine satin black I top coat with three WET coats of normal gloss acrylic clear & just don't polish it. Gloss clear always has a satin finish until you polish it. When u don't polish, it gives the satin black underneath a cool depth and any sharp edges look so sweet.
1st coat= medium wet.
2nd coat= Full wet coat.
3rd coat= Full wet coat.
Protects them a little as well
Very nice explanation.
Todd, absolutely love your videos. Love to do your training class one day. Perhaps you can do a video similar to this for chrome wheels; protection, should they be coated, light cleaning products, heavier cleaning products etc...
Thank you! It is a very rare occasion when we see chrome wheels here at the shop, but we'll definitely keep that one in mind for when something comes in.
What would i use to remove hard water stains from my satin wheel?
I am refinishing a set of aluminum wheels that are peeling. I bought gray primer, aluminum base coat and I had to decide between the clear coat in either matte or glossy. I was advised to choose the satin but I am not sure if it was the right choice. I haven't used it yet so should I return the matte clear coat and get gloss instead? I am still in the stripping stage at the moment.
That's a personal preference decision!!
So I'm getting a 22" wheel made in black. What is a safe option? Gloss lip n satin face or satin lip n gloss black face. Thanks
The satin will be more forgiving...if it were me, I'd go for the satin face!
Thanks again the car is s63 Benz which has a lot of brake dust and just trying to hide it a little bit
Bought some second hand satin alloys so not sure how they have been looked after, would you recommend a good clean and maybe coating?
I always recommend coating on satin wheels!!!
Great info Todd, thank you.
I'm about to purchase satin black hellcat rims and just want to make sure I purchase the correct coating. Could you leave a link to it?
This is what you want: www.esotericcarcare.com/kamikaze-stance-rim-coat-2-0/
What BMW model wheels are you cleaning in the video with the red bucket? Are they gloss or satin? Thanks
Hard to say since this video was done 4 years ago. Based on the sizing though, my guess would be that it's off of a SUV model.
Satin
Hi. Very good vídeo. I have a set of black machined rims. What can I use to clean them. They are getting a grey color. Thank you
If they're looking "grey", then they're swirled up and the only way to fix that is with machine polishing...which is very challenging to say the least.
What do I put on my new satin black wheels before I put them on my truck so they stay nice
I'd recommend Kamikaze Stance Rim Coat...here is a good tutorial on it: th-cam.com/video/q0xlvRbYbgM/w-d-xo.html
Which paint finish can withstand harsh conditions better gloss clear coat or satin?
Typically the satin finishes have better durability.
If you want to remove the coating on an already coated wheel is there a products out there that'll do it or do you have to use a polish on them to remove
You'd have to polish it off, which might be quite challenging! If the coating is on a matte / satin wheel, then you'd just need to give it time to wear off since polishing would most likely alter the finish.
ESOTERIC - Fine Auto Finishing Ok thank you just what I imagined you'd have to do
What do you recommend to clean the interior of matte wheels the esoteric wheel brush or gyeon wheel brush?
It really depends on the wheel. If you have plenty of space to work with, then I would recommend one of the Gyeon brushes.
Can geyon wet coat be applied to satin wheels?
Yes it can...
I was planning on using geyon iron for entire car then geyon prep and finish with geyon wet coat, first time using the products and new to all this, so wanted to start out with something safe and easy.
What car are you using it on?
ESOTERIC - Fine Auto Finishing 2018 ZL1 1LE
I wouldn't use the Iron on the matte wrapped hood unless you have it wrapped in paint protection film. I peeled it off of my 1LE, and couldn't be happier!
Great info again.
Just wondering how you suggest preparing allready dirty satin wheels for a coating?
Don't think it's a good idea to clay them since polishing away claymarring changes the finish.
Thanks for the video's!
Thanks. Just hit with with a good wheel cleaner like Gyeon Iron or Sonax Wheel Cleaner Plus and you should be good to go.
Hi Todd, great video. I just purchased an SUV with Matte Black wheels. I was thinking on getting the Gyeon Rim coating for the matte wheels and maintaining with Gyeon Bathe and occasionally Gyeon Wet Coat. What is your professional opinion on that procedure. Thank you, Howard
Howard...sounds like a great plan to me!!
ESOTERIC , thank you again for the information
My Matte Black wheels I noticed today have some spots on them from the tire dressing the dealer put on before I took delivery of it yesterday. What do you recommend to get the spotting off? Will an ultra fine polish take it off? Or a cleaner of some sort? I want them perfected before I apply the Gyeon Rim. Thank you, Howard.
It is safe to use gyeon mitt on the face of matte wheels?
Perfectly safe. Just dedicate a specific wash mitt to wheel duty only.
Wich one is better gyeon mitt or kamikaze sponge? In terms of delicate and easiest way of cleaning?
Flip a coin on that one! If you cut the Kamikaze sponge in half, I think it's a little easier to use on the faces of intricate wheels.
Ok I understand that sonax wheel cleaner plus, full effect and gyeon iron is for iron deposits but, What is a good cleaner for heavy dirt and grime? Or this would help?
yesssss finally new intro music
I used "Meguiars rubbing compound clear coat safe" to removed a scratch on my satin black wheel and now it looks glossy. Can I do something to make it look satin again?
No. Once that satin finish has been turned even a little glossy, you can't go back.
Going for gloss on my rims.... I don’t want the bother and extra effort with satin...
I find satin easier to maintain than gloss...
Can you polish them before it looks like its got dark or dull spots on it?
If they are gloss wheels, then yes.
@@Esotericdetail they are satin wheels dull black finish
Would you guys recommend staying away from wheel cleaners with acid? Certain types only maybe?
We don't use any acidic wheel cleaners, and we don't recommend using them.
Thanks for continually educating, would you ever consider running a course/workshop in Australia if you had enough interest?
Personally I’d pay the airfare on top of the course cost.
Yes, I would definitely be up for something like that! You could contact me directly at todd | at | esotericdetail | dot | com.
This guys like the alloy Bill Murray
There just wheels, I just use a hand full of gravel from the driveway to clean all my wheels
That’s because your wheels probably cost $10 each. When you buy wheels for $5K, 10K or more, then you probably want to preserve as much as possible the value and take care of your wheels properly, just as good as I imagine you would care for your teeth (going to the dentist can be expensive).
If you wonder why someone would buy expensive wheels, well, the short answer is because the probably can. Or they want to.
