Great video and lesson. After being in your Enthusiasts Class last fall and seeing your wheel stand/roller...I came home and made one for myself....what a work saver it is. Thanks for the video....enjoy and learn from everyone that you do and post.
Nice review Todd. I haven't jumped up to a full blown coating yet. I am using Polishangel Viking Coat at the moment which I absolutely love. So easy to apply and remove and provides stellar results with really good hydrophobic properties. I maintain it with Viking Spritz and also have their Glisante' wash for bucket washing although I primarily am doing rinseless washes as of late because I keep my car super clean. I have a red Nissan 370Z with super soft paint so I do tend to get some minor wash marring (even trying to wash as safely as possible) but nothing a quick fine polish won't remove. Getting ready to try Polishangel Escalate which I just got to bring back the finish to a super high gloss and re-apply Viking Coat. I previously did the entire car about two years ago using Master Compound and Master Sealant followed by the Viking Coat (which, with proper maintenance) has lasted me two years, although to be fair, the car isn't driven too often and is a garage kept weekend toy. When I do jump up to a full coating, it will definitely be a Kamikaze coating.
watching your video at night plan on doing my new wheels tomorrow, thanks for letting me know too still prep it to a high standard even though their new wheels :)
If we’re looking for the best durability possible, what would you suggest to do? I been thinking of using: 1. Dedicated wheel coating as base layer 2. Topped by a second layer of wheel coating or would you suggest using a professional grade, silica-based coating? 3. And finalize with spray silica based “coating/ sealant”?
Looks great. I'm wondering what is the best paint or surface material to put on the rim for the most clean and least dirty look? After I solve this, I can follow this video's instructions.
I’ve just bought new rims and I want to coat with Gyeon Q2 Rim. Should I use directly Gyeon Prep or it’s better to prewash, wash and use the iron remover before? Thanks for created this amazing channel!!
Thank you. If they're brand new, un-driven wheels, I'd recommend just thoroughly cleaning with Prep first, then go directly into your coating process. Glad you like our channel!
I just got the Stance Wheel coat from your shop and I have a new set of wheels showing up soon. Would you recommend coating the wheels before or after the tires have been mounted? I suppose you could get around the lip edge better without tires mounted. Thanks.
Have my set of brand new 22x12 -44 offset wheels still in the box. 6” gloss black lip , I better learn how to do this before I ge the tires mounted on.... especially Calis weird weather.... is it gonna be sunny ... windy... rain... storm... tornado? Gloss black hardest of all to keep clean or black in general wheels.... thanks for the info
Thanks...glad you liked it! Yes, the DIY kits have been extremely popular so far. We're just trying to make the decision-making process as easy as possible for consumers.
Great video! I am a tire installer and have a question about what is the best cleaner to get adhesive weights? I had a set "reject the weights" and the customer said they were ceramic coated. (brand unknown). we usually prep with 91% isopropyl for nice wheels.
Unfortunately I haven't found a "best". It's a slow process to ensure no marring or scratching on the wheels. We will typically allow it to sit in Gyeon Tar for a while before trying to work it off of the surface.
@@Esotericdetail I think maybe he was asking how to make wheel weights stick to a ceramic coated wheel? Or is that not a problem? Or maybe they should be balanced BEFORE coating?
That wheels stand you made there. Where did you get those parts? Is that something ready to go that you bought and just attached to that board? PS, you guys are doing some of the best detailing videos out there period. I’ve learned so much from them. Cheers

Hi Todd, old video but wonder if you might clarify two things. If I use Gyeon Rim, then would using their Wheel Iron remover product shortern the life of the product. Get SO much break dust on my Cayman Is CanCoat worth it, given I have loads and as I understand it, it has a limited shelf life...or am I just wasting my time. Thanks for the awesome videos!
Todd, I applied a coating to freshly repaired and powder coated wheels about 12 - 18 months ago. How would I clean and prep for a reapplication? I’m aware of the usual wash, tar, iron remover but don’t know if I should look at a clay mit or some sort of polish to ensure the surface can bond to the coating as best as possible. The wheels are matte powder coat and I’ve never polished powder coat, unsure how it would respond. Thanks!
I know this is an old video, technology-wise, but ... today, what does ceramic coatings consist of? Is it glas, is it hardened minerals or some 3rd option?
Another great video, thanks guys. Would also like to hear your thoughts on mythbusting maintenance of ceramic coated wheels.. so much misinformation out there.
What is your opinion of Gtechniq C5 Wheel Armour VS Gtechniq EXOv4? Which would be better on your rims? Taking into consideration the heat from the brakes when on the track once in a while? Thanks
We don't use that brand, so can't comment. I've done a lot of track time, and my wheels have always been coated with either Gyeon MOHS or Kamikaze Stance, and both survive the track and make post clean up much easier.
Wouldn’t DLUX be a better and longer lasting choice given that it is wheel specific and better with higher temperatures, despite not being as nice to install application-wise?
Worst rims I have seen are Ford Mustangs that are exported. The underbody is sprayed at the dock with a black tar like compound and it's all over PART of the rims. I literally had to use a can of degreaser on each rim to remove before using an IPA to prep before ceramic coating them. Took about 4 hrs per rim, and I have only done the rear 2 so far as it was raining so I could only jack the rears up in the shed, the fronts will have to wait until next week
Awesome video! I would like to use this product on my alloy wheels, however, my wheels have a polished lip. Can I use this product on them? If so, please could you take me through the steps...especially on the polished alloy bits? Is the application process the same, or are there any other steps/products to consider?
I've never heard of that product, so I can't comment on that. But if you're applying coating to a gloss wheel, using another (less expensive) product shouldn't "enhance the shine".

It really depends on the coating. I've seen them go on without any issues, and I've seen them have extreme difficulty with adhering to the surface. Might as well give it a try!
I know this video is over a year old, and more about coating the wheels, but does the cleaning process change if the vehicle has Carbon Ceramic Brakes? Great videos as always!!
No...you'd only be able to do the faces. Your other option would be to use something like Gyeon Wet Coat every month or so. It doesn't last nearly as long, but it's so easy to use that you don't mind doing it on a somewhat regular basis. www.esotericcarcare.com/gyeon-q2m-wetcoat/
Question 1: I just bought your Kamikaze 2.0 wheel coating for my new BBS matte bronze wheels. Do I need to prep the wheels first? They are brand new wheels. I don’t have any wheel prep spray but I do have isopropyl alcohol which I was planning on using to make sure no dust or anything was on the surface. Question 2: is Kamikaze ceramic coating safe for the matte finish on my BBS’s? Question 3: I want to use the remainder of the coating for some carbon fiber bits I ordered, how long is the ceramic coating good for once the bottle is opened and is it safe for parts other than wheels? Thanks!
Thank you for your order. IPA should be fine, and coatings are safe for satin / matte finishes. Coatings are usually fine after opening for about a month or so, provided it is kept out of the extreme cold or heat.
Thx for the video. How do you go about reapplying a coating once you did it 6 months ago. Do you start all over with iron remover, then prep, & then coating agin? Can you put Meguires ceramic coating instead of that other product you mention last?
Correct...just start the same process over again. I'm not familiar with that product you speak of so can't comment on that. With the PA Supersport, it's designed specifically for wheels, and literally takes seconds per wheel for the maintenance application.
