I agree with the first part but disagree with the second. Moving in together gives you one of the best tests of compatibility. Better to find out before tying the knot.

In western society there is what is known as common law marriage meaning that if you have lived togethor Ling enough the state automatically considers yiu married and if the woman takes you to court for divorce or separation you will lose your assets. It doesn't matter how long you've lived together, if you share your finances together and make decisions together, have children together.....she's still not your wife, and neither of you are legally obligated to one another until you actually marry one another. You won't be recognised by the law as married either and therefore, the benefits and perks of marriage need not apply to those who simply are playing house. I'm starting to see a pattern of young men calling Ramsey saying that they're trying to get their finances together and achieve financial peace for once in their lives but are being anchored down by their irresponsible gfs or wives most of the time. I would agree with the brotherly advice to an extent. It might be hard, but it might be best to respectfully but firmly tell the girl that if she wants to see me do it before she gets onboard, I am going to have to do it on my own without her. This is one of the rare times that I agree with Ken. This woman sounds like an anchor waiting to happen. This woman has no intention of joining this guy on his journey. Also, I think it’s a mistake to marry someone you’ve placed on a pedestal instead of someone you respect and share common goals with. I did that in my first marriage and it was a train wreck.

Sorry, not going to work. My daughter and her significant other getting a divorce due to this. They did, however, talked and agreed before marriage. But her better half did not keep that agreement. Her better half also won't go to counseling. The warning signs were there. My daughter did not listen to the warning signs or to me. Now it is sad and heartbreaking for everyone. Save you and your family from more heartbreak than necessary. People don't change. She, in her mind, is entitled.
