One Map - Three Growing Cities | Cities Skylines 2

- We're continuing the expansion of our sort of realistic North American-themed city Riverview and its metropolitan area, by completely revamping a few inner-city areas in the main city of Riverview, creating a more classic row-house area with mixed-use and medium-density residential, commercial, and offices integrated as well. Afterwards we bring Chestnut from town to city, by building an all-new downtown including a marina, right next to the extensive interstate infrastructure and interchanges we built previously. Hope you enjoy!

You too! 😊
For Chestnut, countless American areas have names from Spanish words and since this is the third view of the river why not "Trevista"
You too! ❤❤
Princetown because he was there, invest some money and now he own the peers.
Sullerdale is a Great Name, History: Sullerdale, nestled in the heart of Riverview, traces its roots back to the 1850s when pioneering settlers established a small trading post along the banks of the river. Over time, the town grew into a thriving industrial hub, thanks in large part to the abundance of natural resources in the area and the arrival of the railway in the late 1800s. Today, Sullerdale is a vibrant and diverse community, proud of its rich heritage and excited about its bright future.
P.S: that took so long to write……
this is unacceptable. I WAITED ALMOST A WEEK FOR THIS EPISODE. I'm so addicted to you, lord have mercy.
Hahahahhaha, sorry 😂 Real life responsibilities pulling me away from my passion sometimes ☺
I had the luxury of watching the port video yesterday
I am glad i’m not the only one who had troubles waiting for this video
Me too man it's strangly Stress relief
Go outside, go on a hike, go touch some fucking grass.
This is the best Series for skylines 2 so far, I love it!!!
Let’s go the best cities skylines 2 series is back!
Let's introduce some health amount of public transportation into the new areas! (maybe another airport build 😈)
Yeah, that main avenue cutting into the new downtown is begging for a tram line in the middle of the streets
Don't forget it's an American city 😝
The airport is so huge it might not fit on the map anymore.
exactly would like to see a subway too
+1 to this, I already see enough of a real American city where I live, I'm ready to see an idealized American city (which includes plenty of public transit)
You have an uncanny ability to make such beautiful cities and road layouts
I think the natural evoultion of Chestnut, would be Chelsea since it has a waterfront now, the name maybe comes from English influences, specialy Londoners. Or maybe New Chelsea. Great video as always
That’s actually a hella good idea
I thinks its about time the RTA opens a metro system
Totally agree! One problem… it’s a North American city and those are few and far between
@reinham NYC, Toronto, Chicago, Mexico City, Montreal, San Fransisco, Vancouver, Atlanta, Boston, Philadelphia, Miami, Honolulu, LA, Cleveland, San Juan, Santo Domingo, Guadalajara all have metros. (Not even talking about LRT, which a lot of US and Canadian cities use)
Maybe some high end town in the mountains would be nice to build, for the rich and famous (just like Beverly Hills). You can use the musician masion and gated community mods for that. Love you serie btw it’s the only cs2 series that actually looks really good in my opinion
This may be my favorite series on YT, I saw this pop up and I audibly squealed with excitement 😂❤
Hahahaha - I guess that is quite the compliment, I'll take your squeal 😂♥
I like to think that from the cims point of view, whatever you build when paused happens instantly. So one day you, a cim, is stuck in traffic then suddenly at the speed of light all the roads change and the buildings have disappeared and your electric scooter is flying out over the river while behind you every vehicle just seems to forget gravity exists. Buses full of schoolchildren, elderly grandparents out walking their dog, ambulances, hearses, (no bicycles...what even is a bicycle?), all just getting tossed about by the sky mayor and his whims. Then your vespa flings itself back onto the nearest bridge, and your memory of how the roads used to be just...fades away...until you think it must have all been a day dream. You love living in Riverview. It has such a view. Of the river.
Absolutely wonderful as always. Also, congrats on 100k! One step closer to 1 million, which you deserved ages ago. Please keep making these!
The city need absolutely more public transport time train and a big subway maybe also an airport
This city starts to be really huge, shouldn't you start to think about an airport?
Thanks for your videos
Good suggestion James, we need to think about airport infrastructure soon! ☺
@@Infrastructurist First of all your city is looking incredible nice work step by step watching your clips congrats for your hard-work-playing & developing this city.. In my own perspective when i played back in the old days SimCity each part of a big metropolis had for each neighborhood mayor office, hospital, police, fire dept, garbage disposal that could be upgraded to different levels by achieving new goals more citizens, more incomes, to unlock different higher in-game tier sections like tourism (by boat, train or airport), advanced industry(wind-farms, dams, solar farms..etc), garbage recycling to use in other clean industries or mining industry to exploit available mineral resources ores, oil, gasses that can also could be up-graded to cleaner tech to pollute less) all would be nice to see in this game that eventually will lead to do thru University research programs and Advanced Science Institute to resource all efforts up to sending a rocket/ship into space..
Hi everyone!
Hi!
Really good.
Aside from that, have you ever planned or thought about a Powerplant district? Selling power could earn big bucks.
Love this series it is defiantly my favourite cs2 series ❤
I don't even know why, but yes, this is so much more interesting than most other CS2 series.
For the port, you mentioned you widened the river and made it deeper in some areas. Did you happen to deepen the water floor of the port bay itself as well? It could help prevent the flood given it was that specific area that had that problem.
Really enjoying this series :)
Keep the videos coming!
The name for your new city next to Chestnut should be Chester. Close to Chestnut, Chester seems more of a professional name for a city but, it also goes along with Chestnut, as they are neighbors. Maybe in a future episode, you can create a statue in the middle of down town to commemorate the founder of this new city I call Chester, William H. J. Chester. H as in Henry. J as is Jones.
OMG the 'Nightmares of no prop line tool' meme is too good! :D
You've done a North American city. Now you must do a European city! I think it would be a fun project to do a Nordic style region, fill it with little fishing villages and towns, and then turn it into a huge city over time! The lore for the city and region could be really fun to create!
Man I started watching your channel since you started Riverview... and Im already addicted. thanks for the content and keep it up !
I'm thinking Chestnut was just a small town with a lot of tress (as you mentioned, thus why it is named Chestnut) that used to be a suburban area for Riverview but due to the increasing demand on Riverview, and to accommodate workers for the port (since it is the closest to the port compared to the other 2 cities), demand in Chestnut eventually grow larger until it is its own city. I think keeping the name Chestnut is fine since from my idea the city grows from a small town instead of planned city
I would say keep Chestnut, but split it off. The old suburby area should remain Chestnut while the new urban area can have a new name.
Since it used to be a forestry area, maybe something connected to that? I suggest "Riverwood".
My favorite City Skyline Series. You create very organic realistic feeling citys. Great Job on the videos!
I don’t see enough people appreciating the music choices. Absolute bangers 🔥
FYI when youre adjusting the zoning with the paths, in most cases you can delete the paths after adjusting the zone.
If you notice that the zoning grid "attaches" to a different road when you use the path that usually means if you delete it it won't jump back.
He just needs to delete the bigger rosds, then rebuild them. Problem solved! Earliest placed roads always get the zoning.
Theres no need to use paths.
you make beautiful cities despite the limitations of the game
your commentary is bang on
and you have great music for the timelapses as well
I am so glad I found your channel
"They dont really smell or taste like freedom" i died x0
Rly great build and also good taste of music. I really enjoyed it. Those Deep / Dub Techno Tracks fit quite well
I love the expansion! With three cities I’m really excited to see how you expand transit. Perhaps a metro for the Riverview Metro Area 👀
Now you have that large avenue running through bedford gardens I feel like the area on the opposite side of the river (sunrise corner) has a lot more potential. especially since there is now a large avenue, that is crossing the river at that point, this could be an access point to a nice neighbourhood, office park, other nice looking facilities buildings or something else. Since this terrain at that side of the river is slightly sloped, this could be a nice selling point of that neighbourhood, kind of like Beverly hills outside LA. this neighbourhood possible could have nice views, a beautiful and quiet surrounding and is close to the downtown of Rivervieuw.
Really wish u could modify houses and other stuff because i always get these gaps in houses and roads and stuff with grass. And the grass looks horrible in this game and cs1 so hopefully a mod could make houses and stoff non square and dynamic to stuff other then grids!
Hey Magnus - fully agree, I'm hopefull we will see some awesome mods for this game down the line! ☺
They should make the option to choose which road has zoning priority so you can choose which road the buildings face
Yes. Exactly like they did in CS1.
Like, it was one of the best "little" improvements late in the game and it was game-changing.
I'm no game developer, but I can't foresee that being a hard update for them to make on CS2.
Tobinagi (or Tobi for short; meaning south river in Navajo), it was the original indigenous settlement (there was a small village right by where the marina is), the colons settled across the river and progressively expanded until the natives moved away. It was the first functionning harbour of the city until the big docks were constructed, and now it only hosts leisure boats.
Btw are you planning to put the tram back on the street you upgraded? - Madison Street, the one you upgraded to a six lane road.....maybe I am missing something tho
New Rock Point City would be a good alternative name Chestnut 'City'. Since it got itself a new marina, might as well dig in with the cove aesthetic, sort of Floridian like vibe.
Oh if I suggest for a new series, how about doing the opposite and doing a European City, to see the difference between the development of these two city design languages that the game has given us. It'll also show which is sort of the meta in terms of controlling traffic and monthly cost of the city may bring.
It would be cool to have a light rail tram (LRT) in the new city centre of Chestnut starting from the Marina at the start/end of Rosewood Street/Cozy Street going in the middle of the one-way streets as a seperated tram track, and when it hits the highway it could go down in a tunnel and swing towards Downtown Riverview (or perhaps even New Port of Riverview), or just connect it to existing tram tracks in Riverview Proper!
what the fuck dude, how do you manage to make it look so god damn good? I can never do this
I feel like you should start spending your development points and put down some more unique buildings!
OMG MY FAV SERIES, THE BEST CITY I LIkE HOW DETAILED AND REALISTIC IT IS COMPARED TO EVERYONE ELSES.
I think for the next video you should dedicate some time in improving public transport of the city. First I think it would be a good idea to expand the train network to Chestnut, East Riverview or both, as well as expanding the tram network as well as creating a subway.
I'm from Italy, but, I love you and your city
Hoping to visit Italy for the first time next year! Greeting from Denmark ☺
I really recommend it, especially Milan, Rome or Naples. Remember this: if you go to Milan you must try the "PIZZIUM" restaurant because they make real Italian pizza. I'm 13 years old, I don't know English very well so I'm using translator. :)@@Infrastructurist
For the new name of Chestnut, I guess you could keep it simple by calling it Chestnut Peaks, with the new high rises almost being like symbolic new, tall trees. As the city keeps growing, it still needs to remember its roots (puns intended).
History suggestion for the City-Which-Will-Soon-No-Longer-Be-Named-Chestnut:
The grid pattern combined with the large, curving boulevard all surrounded and *shaped* by the highways makes me think of post-war new urban experiments, like the city decided "hey lets move some of our big businesses out of these dingy old brick office buildings and into a new ~modern~ (read: car-dominated and white collar) business district.
I think because of that it would become somewhat of an outsider compared to Riverview and East Riverview, and has been really working on reinventing its image in the last 20 years or so to be more walkable and build more dense housing.
Really really loving the series so far!!
Still bothers me that you are shipping goods upstream and not downstream where the ocean should be 😂❤
But you created a really nice city! It feels alive how it grows and develops. Keep it growing.
*Name proposals:* Chestnut becomes *Charteris;* (new) Port of Riverview becomes *River Valley Terminal and Industrial Complex (RIVTEX);* and (old) Port of Riverview becomes *Annable Wharf*
*Backstory:* In a bygone era, *East Riverview, West Riverview, and Chestnut* were quaint towns nestled along the confluence of the Pandora and Frere Rivers, their destinies intertwined by proximity. Faced with economic challenges, the leaders of these communities envisioned a stronger future through unity. In a historic decision, they merged to form the thriving metropolis of *Riverina.*
For a while, Riverina flourished, benefitting from combined resources and shared responsibilities. However, as time passed, dissatisfaction brewed in Chestnut because it felt overlooked by the then much larger cities. The citizens began to yearn for the autonomy they once held dear. It was Richard Charteris, a charismatic figure with a passion for local governance, who emerged as the face of the autonomist movement.
Amidst political discontent, Chestnut successfully navigated the demerger process. Richard Charteris, now at the helm of the newly independent city, steered it through challenges and triumphs for over a decade. His leadership left an indelible mark on the community which grew tremendously. Despite advocating for the demerger from Riverina, Mayor Charteris believed that cooperation was still necessary because in his words _"no matter what, we can't change geography."_ The administration in Riverina was recalcitrant and progress on that front was stalled until the election of Finn Annable as Mayor of Riverina. The new spirit of collaboration birthed the *Riverina and Chestnut Combined Authority* - a joint commission meant to deliver and implement projects that would benefit both cities, like economic development, disaster preparedness and management, transportation, parks and recreation, et cetera. The major project to emerge from this combined authority was _Pandora River Industrial Terminal_ - an upstream cargo terminal to replace the Port of Riverview and Eastport in the two cities. The terminal would eventually expand to become the *River Valley Terminal and Industrial Complex (RIVTEX).*
Upon his passing, the people of Chestnut decided to honor Richard Charteris's legacy by renaming their city as *Charteris* as much of its growth and existence was owed to his efforts. Concomitantly, the City of Riverina opted to rename the old Port of Riverview - since redeveloped as a residential, commercial and entertainment district - as *Annable Wharf* in honour of Mayor Annable.
So, thanks for this video
About Chestnut: we know, that people in this region a) aren't really original (c'mon) and b) aren't really historically accurate, maybe a little lying type (have you seen that medieval castle that they are calling a civil war fort? there was no civil war in this area thats for sure) . So I think, that people from Chestnut may want to make themselves a history, about Chestnut being the oldest city in the area, and maybe when they upgraded from. town to city, they called themselves "Old Riverview" (and for europe its pretty often that the oldest part of a city is built on the place, when a little river combines with a bigger river, most likely on the chestnut side of a T-shape)
and for other series: I live in Armenia right now, and I wonder, how CS2 manages mountain cities, or at least hilly cities. As a reference you could take Dilijan, Goris, Erevan, or, really, any major city in Caucasian region
I think your should name it St. Marina. She is the patron saint of the water. Might be a bit on the nose considering you have the only Marina in chestnut. But the inspiration comes from Minnesota where you have the twin cities Minneapolis and St. Paul across the rivers just like this.
Really loving the series, subscribed just to keep up with your awesome city design
I have no idea if anyone has already suggested this, but maybe rename Chestnut, to Chester City. Keeps some of the history in the name but also shows how the original suburb/town of Chestnut has grown and evolved into a bustling center, which was brought about due to the new installation of the massive port in the North.
I don't have anything else in terms of a better story or history but thought this might be a cool idea, my 10 cents.
I will say there are more roundabouts in the US than 5+ way intersections.
Yeah it seems to be slowly but surely making its way to quite a few US states!
Great as always! I'd still love to see you approach a car-free city in another project or at least see how far you can push the limits with public transport :) thanks for the series!
Let's go
I think it's time for a airport
My favourite part of any CS2 content at the moment is all the 'whack-a-mole' shenanigans with paths etc to get zoning to face in the desired direction! FFS just give us a zoning toggle option in the base game already! :D
Discovered your channel a couple months ago and instantly fell in love with the style of your videos and the city you're building. Keep going and congrats on 100k, well deserved!
Hi I don’t know if you took care of it off camera but if I remember correctly you did set up chestnut as a gated community which doesn’t really make sense now that the city grew so much, anyway great video as always
What if you would Build a memorial like the one of 9.11 on the Island in the middle of the three cities? Vor a new and modern skyscraper and Office Zone in the middle!
lets go! your at 100k!❤❤
I like the Triangel Park, because in Berlin we have a Park called "Gleidreieck" which means Track-Triangel-Park, so it has realism.
I think chestnut still fits, as you said, theres history now which is always important in a history. The area couldve been a top exporter or best quality chestnut around:) could have "upper" and "lower" chestnut
finally, the best city planners on city skyline upload video
Some people are just so damn good at this game... and you're one of them. Thanks for the entertainment!
I think you should build some more commercial!
Very nice series and timelapses too. 😊
Thank you! ♥
@@Infrastructurist 😊😊
Maybe something like River's Crest for the old Chestnut? Would be cool to stick to river-themed names for the three cities, and since the river bends right at the marina the name might be fitting.
Awsome and inspirational as always. You get my like and sub.
Could you link the used music plz?
You are making these cities so realistic I'm now so attached to Chestnut! The little of the three sisters (or should I say tree? Ahah)
Here to hoping for an express line (a subway would be cool) connecting the three business districts 🤞
Love the series man keep it going, I got a nice name for chestnut maybe call it Oakridge and here is a little backstory (not the best backstory but something) Once known as Chestnut, this town transformed into Oakridge, evolving into a beautiful town. Oak-lined streets and charming homes emerged, drawing admiration from visitors. Today, Oakridge stands as a picturesque haven, harmonizing nature's beauty with subtle progress.
for a new city it would be really cool if you built a highly detaled European style metropolitan area, with a lot of public transport. Would like to see a mountain village too! If that is possible with those mountains.
I like the fact that you are a lets player who actually uses stats like unemployment to build and develope. - keep it up
35:05 Please rename Foggy Lane to Froggy lane. Me and my gf love watching these videos and she also really loves froggs
So happy every time I see you upload a new video! Riverview is looking more amazing with every passing episode. Keep up the great work
I will do my best! ♥♥
As riverview continued to grow during the 19th century it became a meeting hub for many immigrants which had travelled after hearing about the gold rush., and most stayed. However riverview didnt have much additional housing nor did east R.v.. Thus the incoming flux of people needed a new place to stay and the mayor of riverview made the decision to build up a new district across the river from both East Rv and Rv and named the district gremham after reading a fantasy book about gremlins. They started with cheap housing but as time went on Gremham grew bigger and bigger. Chestnut was later built as an extension of gremham in the outskirts as most if inner gremham had upscaled and demand for single family houses was on the rise after the great depression.
Also, as the area grew quite large and fast in the height of American public transport I think it wouldn't be strange to have a subway system connecting most branches of the metropolitan
Dude, what the heck, this is better than what I have done in 5 years, also, remember, every big city deserves a airport 😉
Waited whole week for this !!!
Greetings from Poland !!
Dzien dobry, greetings from Denmark!
(I work with wonderful polish colleagues)
haha, good for you my friend
Love the series so far. Suggestion for replacement name for Chestnut - one common thing you see in North American cities which your current one doesnt use is naming based on the Native American language names for the location:
Waukitowoc - pronounced walk-uh-toe-wok - purported to mean "place of the third spirit" derived from the language of the local indigenous peoples. The area of Waukitowoc was purchased from the local Native peoples who inhabited it in the 1836 Treaty of Heart Island. Initially used as a camp by French Fur Traders who trapped beaver along the waters edge, as local game was hunted out Waukitowoc would slowly serve as a quiet country get away for residents seeking a reprieve from the bustle of nearby Riverview. However, with the explosive growth of Riverview in the 2020's fueled by significant investment in local infrastructure Waukitowoc would see a growth spurt of its own as it expanded to fit the large influx of jobs, industry, and residents coming over from across the 2 rivers.
You know what would be really wacky? Some kind of airport in the industrial valley, and and Denver-like transit system connecting to it :D
Can you upload your city save file somewhere? It looks so beautiful
one thing you've got to be careful with when it comes to row housing is parking. row houses in cities skylines 2 don't have any parking, so it's important to either have a parking lot or street parking available.
Yeah it will be interesting to see how parking is affected when I alleys are used to extensively in the city! I really wish I had a narrow 2-lane road with parking on just 1 side available (narrower than the current 2-lane roads), as I want the row-house areas to feel really old - pre-automobiles ☺
Suggestions for a new city? I think a Norwegian town on the Windy Fjords map could be cool with your abilities. And perhaps a challenge as well? It is one ridiculously hilly terrain.
I can’t wait for this to hit consoles, so I can start my Twin City series in the FB group I’m in, it’s going to be a city inspired by Minneapolis & St Paul and being that we can zone services for specific districts this will make it more interesting
Always look forward to these! Feeling sick and quarantined to the couch so this made my day a bit better. Keep it up man
So to hear that - hope you'll feel better soon!
And thanks, I'll do my best!
We’re back!! A great gift to wake up to!
commenting to boost the engagement cause i want you to keep uploading forever
A metro system would go incredibly hard in this city...
What about building houses on the side of hills and slopes like the Hollywood Hills in LA?
37:14 - I love these little comments you sprinkle around 😂
The parts where it shows the pictures of him obsessing over more trees is funny. As for a new name for the area, I would say that Chesterfield is a nice new name for the district.
“Gotta get rid of these roundabouts, they don’t really smell or taste like freedom” YOURE GODDAMN RIGHT , RAAAAAAAGHHHHHH🦅🦅🦅🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Some suggestions
- airport
- metro system
- more suhurbs
......
Probably one of the best if not the best person I've seen on TH-cam who think about every aspect in the Cities Skylines 2 walkthrough.
Fantastic job, mate.
Hopefully someday I will be able to make it like you do.
First ❤
I know it's very difficult without mods, but maybe try recreating a real city? The terraforming and road layout is probably the easiest part of it, the buildings and decoration might be very tough though
Great video as always
Finally😭😭it has been 27 years
1 week / 27 years, potato potato 😂😜
it's too many parks for an american city🦅🇺🇸🦅🇺🇸
I’ve been watching your series since the start and myself and most likely many others would love for you to do an hour+ episode some time. Maybe it could count as the 100k subscriber special by making one
I’ve learned so much from your videos. And I’m thankful. I’ve always wanted a realistic USA city in city skylines and I’m getting the hang of it.
Been waiting for this one
Love ur videos!! really waited for a new one!
Westriverview sounds good, but for a unique twist, you could go for "RiveroDeCastaña," which means "River of Chestnut" in Spanish. Or maybe try "San Alexios" - it's got that San Diego, San Antonio, San Francisco vibe that feels right at home with American cities like Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Los Santos, and San Francisco. Just throwing some ideas around for that laid-back, familiar feel.
