    I think part of the traffic problem downtown is that you have a ton of roads really close together, too many intersections, as well as not having a proper grid in a downtown area. With so many curved roads not coming in at a 90° angle means that cars have to take sharp and wonky angles to turn onto other roads

    • @brigidtheirish
      @brigidtheirish ปีที่แล้ว +6

      So, basically, very European.

    • @GeorgeBerberian
      @GeorgeBerberian ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Agreed! I found that the number of intersections very close to each other causes a ton of traffic. Also, there are issues when one road goes from, say, large 6 lanes down to 4 lanes, or 6 lanes with trams down to 6 lanes with an island. The traffic algo forces the vehicles to do strange routes in and around the city.

    • @mattsnyder4754
      @mattsnyder4754 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Yep. If you’re going to have that many roads that close together, you either need to make them alternating one way roads, or have some of the roads stop short so that they don’t all intersect.

    • @SaltyRad
      @SaltyRad 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      yeah i noticed this too after awhile. it was always the shorter stretch's of roads that got backed up the most. more length means more room for overflow of traffic. thats why now i always build a buffer between the highway and the city. giving that ridiculous influx of traffic time to spread out before entering the city.

    You wouldn't have surface car parks in the middle of a high density area. They'd either be multi-storey or underground, or preferably none at all and it would be a walkable environment linked to high capacity public transport, so people don't need to travel by car. Appreciate the mechanics of CS2 might not like that, but in real life, that's what we'd be looking to do (*we as in planners and urban designers).

      They don't have a usable interface for the public for it though. It will take a lot of work to make the user interface, with pictures of the stuff you are plopping to make the park area like this. And then it's also dead and not usable at all/no benefit except city painting.
      If suggest the devs give a prop menu when they have time, but if it is for parks to properly make it so that the park is usable and gives some sort of boost to the area.

    Hey Biffa! I’d like to suggest an idea for future development!
    I think it would be a cool addition to the city to add frontage roads, or feeder roads as we call them in Texas similar to something they do in Houston. The highways have separated express ways in the middle (usually 2 lanes each direction), 3-4 lanes on the regular free highway each direction, as well as 3 lanes of feeder roads on the side which are 45mph. This is beneficial because, instead of having deadzones next to interstate highways, there are tons of businesses and stores along those roads. Considering you aren’t building a car dependent society, I’d say you could try to improvise and add a high speed tram way somehow along those highways.
    But hopefully you like the idea, I think it would be beneficial especially for the deadzones around industry areas, perhaps?

    Pedestrian tunnels don't need the same depth as the equivalent pedestrian bridges, so are better for accessibility (in terms on slopes required) - as a 2.5m tunnel is plenty for clearance whereas you need ~6m for a pedestrian bridge.
    Until they have nicer small tunnel portals though I can see what you avoid using tunnels instead of bridges.

      @@RryhhbfrHhgdHhgd356 but pedestrian underpasses/ tunnels are a lot more common in urban areas than pedestrian bridges in my experience.
      The perception of additional safety issues is usually down to the tunnels also being a source of shelter from weather conditions - having people loitering rather than constantly moving through. Well lit underpasses that aren't too long, serving areas with lots of foot and bicycle traffic are considered better than the equivalent bridge options.

    I have found that high density areas don't like 1, 2, and 3 lane roads. It's just not enough room to move the traffic, especially if you have a parking lot (which will cause 80% of your traffic). I make sure I make 4 to 6 lane roads before I create a downtown area. It also helps if you're going to make trams, it still leaves enough lanes for traffic, and trams can have dedicated lanes. Some ally roads coming off those bigger roads helps tighten things up.
    When my main city got over 80k I was playing whack-a-mole with traffic. Got it all figured out, then with the addition of subways, traffic is much smoother at 115k.
    And one of the things I like about the round-a-bouts in CS2 is bigger doesn't mean more lanes. It just makes it bigger keeping the same lane mathematics.

    Since you focus on traffic id love to see you do a video looking at traffic patterns during the day vs night to see if there are any patterns that could be used to manage traffic patterns better or to alter transit to save money early in the game

    32:44 all the lanes are acting funky cause there's not enough lanes for roads to continue to.. going from a 2 lane to a 1 lane isn't going to work and the one lane doing every direction is blocking the right one from going right

  • @neonada.official
    @neonada.official ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Yo Biffa around the 30min mark you’re trying to have 2 lanes move into one lane which makes no sense. People would have to zip merge in the middle of the junction to all end up on the same single lane. No amount of shifting the road will fix that.

      Oooops you did it a bit later....honestly it makes much more sense. Would be nice if they could create Housing/Shopping with included underground garages in the future or doing an underground garage were you can build something on top (like the metrostation)

  • @shaneintheuk2026

    As you build higher density I recommend getting into the habit of using car parking to separate the buildings. There’s almost always space around each tower block for parks and parking.

  • @ameyjoshi938
    @ameyjoshi938 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The parking assets are causing the bulk of the problems. They are allowing traffic to enter the road from random spots that the creator is not aware of. Biffa i think you should make sure that the entry and exit of the parking assets is on a particular road only and not multiple. That is why the underground one worked so well. It loaded and unloaded on the side road.
    Edit: Cars are also using it as a turnaround. Making things infinitely worse.

    With Anarchy, 1 of the 3 mods I view as being vital has finally been released. The others are TMPE (Because the games default lane management is awful) and Move It.
    In a city of 170,000 my average traffic flow is just above 60%, and I *know* I could get it above 80, maybe even above 85% with TMPE.

    One thing I have learned is that cars will go into a full car park then realize that it is full turn around and go back on the road which causes traffic. Not sure how to resolve this yet. I have added more car parks to handle the number of people needing to park.

      It will get it's own mod store (forgot the name) somewhere in the future. They will fix the problems first and then the mod support wil go live. Q1 this year I think we wil have a central (and official) place for mods.

    2nd suggestion - how about you make more underground parking and remove road side parking so you can increase the road width which will east traffic with more lanes. ?
