Benidorm is located on the Costa Blanca, Spain. Famous for it's beaches, bars, restaurants, nightlife, entertainment, hotels, sightseeing, party atmosphere, excursions, tours and sun. It is not only one of the top holiday destinations in Spain but one of the best tourist hotspots in the whole of Europe. British and Irish tourists love to travel to Benidorm, being one of the best resorts for a package holiday, but it is also well loved by many European travellers, and of course the Spanish themselves. Hi Lucy, Brilliant video. Its so good to highlight areas of concern.
We have just come back from Benidorm and during our visit had one of our beach bags stolen from the beach. 2 phones and sunglasses and 60E. The sunbed team and supervisor were great along with the First Aid station on the beach who called our hotel, as my room card was in my purse. We totally understand it was some arseholes trying to ruin holidays. This is the only time in 16 years of going to Benidorm that any issues have happened. It has made us more aware. So highlighting these areas; as unpleasant as it is, will hopefully make people like myself who may have been a little too relaxed more aware. Good news is we still had a great time in Benidorm. 16 yr keeping going there,its not resort for such of things,dirthy place with a lot of annoying locals with dogs who dont understand one sigle word of english and with poor quality of beaches for swimming.Only for once and never again.Try Mallorca and Gran Canaria instead.

Thanks Lucy, my friend who had never been to Benidorm before, had to be dragged away from the pea men. Others in the “gang” tried to block me from getting her away, she already had a €50 note in her hand. They are pro’s, I will give them that. Hi Lucy,
How ironic, that part way through your video, after the Corner bar, and just before the Supermarket/ Indoor market, over your right shoulder, you can spot the peemen, moving on.
Also, as nearly everyone has a mobile phone, I would suggest they take photos of their Passports, Credit Cards, Travel insurance and Luggage.
Could come in handy, if you have a problem.
P.s. Don't lose your phone 😀
Start the video at 5.20 mins, and you will spot them.
Or photocopy your documents and take photo of your luggage before you fly, also mix your clothes between cases so if one goes missing you have enough clothes to wear.

Great information video Lucy, Peamen were everywhere last time we were there. I always use a bumbag to carry cash, and always do what you say when you don't carry too much other than what you need.

Great video thank you, yes we saw a bus arriving, and a elderly looking gentleman lifted a bag, and they know exactly which one you keep all the important stuff in. To our amazement the spanish bus driver ran after him, gave him hell and grabbed the bag back off him. I say gentleman to give you a picture of him they don’t look like neds all the time

Hi Lucy, great video again, can I make a suggestion and that is a lot of people are put off by having to visit a police station to report the incident and I wondered whether a scheme could be introduced that you report it to your hotel and collate the incidents and report them,say once a week to the police. Just a thought, thanks again for keeping us all up to date.
You can dial 112 when answered .say ENGLISH slowly and clearly they put you on to an English speaker When you ring make sure you know where you are and your address They will come to you / and send National Police ....
How about adults actual act like adults and use common sense. Gambling on a street? And no one can work out it’s a scam just by the location?
Brilliant video as always Lucy .. we are here in Benidorm as we speak .. we’ve noticed a bit of a small scam going on in most bars too , when you order a spirit and mixer , the mixer comes in a bottle and not draught like it does anywhere else … the mixer is often more costly than the spirit!! A small issue but still a
Con non the less . Just one to be aware of if you like a vodka n coke etc etc ..

That's not a scam, most Spanish prefer the mixer from a bottle and will complain if its draft
Not many bars sell draught anymore, its not very good quality being a syrup mixed with soda, and difficult to keep clean. most people prefer bottles, not just Spanish, most Brits specifically ask for a bottle or can as a mixer.. bars are just going with demand.

Hi Lucy thanks for the info I have been pickpocketed in a supermarket in. Tenerife, someone asked me if I could reach a high shelf.. did so, then. Realised my wallet had gone. Reported immediately to local police, I was contacted a little later be police to say wallet found , went to police station to pick it up , no wallet, no cash but a bunch of different cards etc. , 2 nd Barcelona, las ram las, phone stolen. Didn’t have time to report as was on tourist bus. Back to resort. .. great advice, I thought I wouldn’t be. Caught a second time but was……. Getting police report is really important if claiming. Back on travel insurance etc….

Also when getting into resort be aware keep your bags zipped closed and never put it down
When out and about never put your bags beside chairs alway keep it over your body
Hi Lucy great content as usual, I have seen the "Pea" men all over Benidorm and really can't understand people still getting scammed by them, Pickpockets rife with them in the crowds they produce, also female pickpockets around Av Mediterraneo near the Wine Barrel Bodegas but float about usually in pairs. Good to hear Police will take statements and possible action, in the UK everything Police related has to be done online, Police do not attend any thefts and take weeks to respond, CCTV footage has to be downloaded to specific "links" and if unable to send link then it is ignored sending messages to thieves that they will get away with anything.

saw the potato/pea men everywhere along the Costas and in Tenerife. cannot believe people are still taken in by them after years of warnings that its a scam.
They are everywhere in UK it's cards called find the lady ...
Its so crazy how people can be so stupid to be dragged into these scams
benidorm holds great memories for me, coming out cafe benidorm 7am going straght to breakfast at the hotel great times

Hi lucy thank you for this blog we never stop or whatch the pea men and i always wear my bag on my front and we as a family are always carefull.Well when i come over next year i will make sure i am well awear of these people again and wear my bag on my front .Thank you again for. Hi Lucy,great advice for those coming over.I got caught a few years ago in Mallorca,with the gypsy flower seller.I'm street wise so if it happened to me the less savvy will be very easy targets.Don't forget the lucky lucky men ripping people off on the beach also.

The moral of the story is keep your hand on your ha'penny.Another thing to beware of is when buying drinks on the beach.We regularly see cars parked on the main road,taking drink orders on the beach then running to mix them in the car boot with hygiene worse than zero.Always see wether the waiter is attached to a cafe etc.
They're all illegal, no bars are licensed to sell on the actual beach.
Also the fruit sellers, one beach I was at they were in the ladies cutting up the stuff on the floor, none too clean to start with.
The pea men, which the sharp eyed will notice feature in the background of the video, are easily avoided - steer clear. Pickpockets are more difficult to avoid. Often they employ a distractor strategy. Someome deliberately bumps into you or holding a map poses as a tourist seeking directions. While your attention is on them an accomplice targets your pockets. Beware, also, of slashers who will cut your shoulder or hand bag and be away in seconds. Walking in Amsterdam, Rembrandtplein, a key tourist spot, someone slashed a paper bag I was carrying full of burgers. While I tried to rescue them my wallet was deftly removed. Beware of over friendly people. In Madrid an old guy put his arms around me. Next thing, wallet gone. Crowded buses, trams and trains are a prime target, so keep things such as a back pack in front of you, not behind. As Lucy said, it happens everywhere. On the Manchester Metro one time, standing room only, a guy was embracing a girlfriend next to me. Felt his hand sliding into my pocket. Grabbed it, bent his fingers back, and let him know he was sussed. (Not recommended btw). Moral of the story: if an experienced traveller like me can get scammed, you can you.

I’ve had experience of pickpockets they pretend to be a friend but there arm around you then some one comes up and try your pockets but luckily I’d spent up I had no money in my pockets and my hotel key was in my trainer
Where people could get caught out is when sitting on the terrace outside The Titanic bar. From the street you are at eye level with peoples feet when walking past and anyone with their bag on the floor by their feet is at risk of losing it. Time and time again when we have walked past I have brought this to peoples attention. Some just ignore me. 😇😇😇

Lets be honest , if you fall for these scams you deserve to lose cash , there have been hundreds of warnings issued , if people are too stupid to listen then sod 'em
Excellent advice Lucy. But whith leaving you're money pass port and valuables in the hotel. I read even that isn't safe now. It was in the news that a couple of women scumbags entered the hotels dressed as cleaners robbing rooms of everything. So i think a manbag held in front of you is the best option these days. Stay safe sweet and keep up the excellent service x.
In a safe deposit box in the room is the best option i would think, normally you choose your own code so even if someone managed to get into your room somehow, they shouldn't be able to get in the safe.
@@LucyYoungTBE If your valuables are in the deposit box in the room and it is interfered with you have a legitimate insurance claim. Always get a police report for your insurance.
Great footage Lucy on pick pockets and the pea men you can see them on streets and others working with them ive always avoid standing around as pick pockets are close by pity they didnt do a surveillance on them watching whos the pick pockets about to nabbed them

Got myself a man bag for a recent trip to ibiza and must say it was a very sensible move on my behalf. Had my pockets dipped there one too many times so it was time to teach the bastards a lesson. That thing was practically glued to me whist I was there and they're more common to see than what some blokes might think. So fellas, part with those readies and do the sensible thang. 👍

The "pea" thing is totally voluntary and anyone taking part basically deserves all that they get.
Also, if it isnt illegal, why do the gang have a half dozen potters watching for the cops?, A sharp whistle and they collapse the cardboard box and disperse.

Lucy when the police took these people to court They told the judge WE HAVE NO MONEY ..... Benidorm is a TOURIST TOWN the town hall want happy holiday makers returning home to come back again One bad experience puts not only the people off but their friends and familyb

And if possible in the bars give them the smallest note possible like a 5 ,euro or a 10 euro because they take 50 sence out off your change for sure this way you can se your change is right and you don't have lots off small coins in your pockets just get ready think before you go out on the beer

Not much mentioned about "Hugger Muggers" I have been caught out by this and lost 200 euro's first night in Benidorm, but learned from that and never allowed any hugs from anyone since in Spain or UK.
I say its about time the law was changed to jail scammers and pickpockets warned and if continue are kicked off the island, simple to solve is the goverment has the will

I saw Find the Lady in London 50 years ago, and I'm sure it was around 50 years before then.
If people have no common sense it's their own lookout.
I had rucksack taken last week while checking in at reception at my hotel a guy grabbed it and ran, i reported it to the police, while there three more people can in the police station to report thefts.

Lucy I won on the pea men easy go in with only 5 or 10 euro play the 1st game and you win but then just walk off with your winning dead easy you should see the faces when I do this twice on the sane day payed for our lunch and a few beers lol hust play once win and 🚶 away easy

It really doesn't help that in Spain it is not regarded as a crime when some scumbag lifts your wallet. The thieves will not be held, will not be charged, and back on the street within a couple of hours.
I am speaking as one who had his wallet stolen, along with all my money on day two of my holiday.
The only time they are interested is when the thief tries to use your credit card, this also happened to me.
The laws in Spain are strange to say the least.
that is ridiclous ,bet if they robbed a bank or shop they would be quick to do something.. makes me worry i picked the wrong place to go on hols next year with all the horror stories .

hI Lucy. unfortunately i was one of the victims of pickpockets last weekend near levante beach. i was rather intoxicated, and all he did was bump into me for a second, and my mobile was gone before i realised. lesson learnt, get an old mobile phone you can afford to lose, and put your sim in that one. Also i didnt report it, which i wish i had now after watching this.

Thieves and con men everywhere in the world I'm not defending the police but when I'm in Benidorm i usually stay in the Nereo facing the indoor market and when sitting on the balcony with a coffee always amazed how many people still stop at the pee men after all the warnings and I've noticed they have people dressed as tourists gambling and winning to make the real tourists have a go but as said keep your senses about you and enjoy your holiday don't make yourself easy prey and enjoy Benidorm marvellous place something for everyone
no hope for them, all you can hope for is that they only lose 50 to 100 euro and they learn their lesson
Those mobility scooters are a bloody nuisance on the pavement aren't they.
I think the Fat guy on the mobility scooter needed to slow down a bit. i thought they could only go at walking speed
