CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Russell Casse (Randy Quaid) realizes that the only way to deliver his bomb to the alien ship is to sacrifice his own life.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
A group of intrepid humans attempts to save the Earth from vicious extraterrestrials in this extremely popular science-fiction adventure. Borrowing liberally from War of the Worlds, Aliens, and every sci-fi invasion film inbetween, director Roland Emmerich and producer and co-writer Dean Devlin present a visually slick, fast-paced adventure filled with expensive special effects and large-scale action sequences. The story begins with the approach of a series of massive spaceships, which many on Earth greet with open arms, looking forward to the first contact with alien life. Unfortunately, these extraterrestrials have not come in peace, and they unleash powerful weapons that destroy most of the world's major cities. Thrown into chaos, the survivors struggle to band together and put up a last-ditch resistance in order to save the human race. As this is a Hollywood film, this effort is led by a group of scrappy Americans, including a computer genius who had foreseen the alien's evil intent (Jeff Goldblum), a hot-shot jet pilot (Will Smith), and the President of the United States (Bill Pullman). While some critics objected to the film's lack of originality and lapses in logic, the combination of grand visual spectacle and crowd-pleasing storytelling proved irresistible to audiences, resulting in an international smash hit.

He looked his fate dead in the eyes and didn't blink. No fear, no hesitation, just the love for his family in his heart and a score to settle.

It's a film bruh
And that's something powerful. There's not something bigger in this life.

The missile picked hell of a day to quit launching
Well considering they managed to find a bunch of F/A-18s somewhere and had to use REMFs as ground and arming crews and a bunch of old retired pilots not type rated for the aircraft it was amazing they worked as good as they did.
We would never gotten the amazing line of 'HELLO BOYS, IM BAAAACCCCK' if it worked right
"I picked a hell of a day to quit drinking" Good call with this comment haha! I got your reference!
He accidentally attempted to launch it back at base when they were testing piloting. He pressed a bunch of random buttons and switches and ultimately jammed it in the process without realizing it.
He was always planned to sacrifice himself. In the original cut, he flew a bi-plane with a missile strapped on as a joke, but they wanted a little more drama and character development instead of the silliness of the climax.
@@kenja0685 along with it didnt make much sense that a biplane was flying at the same speed and altitude as jets, it added more emotion and logic to the scene.

@@Xsuprio from a current perspective, no it's no that great of a movie. However it is a movie in the iterative process of better movies. So the movies you would inevitably used to argue that this is a bad movie, are only as good as they are because this was a better movie than movies before it.

in my opinion the greatest movie moment of all time
Legit everyone in the theater started celebrating. Because at that point in the movie, we hated the aliens too.
One of the best
They went up his butt so he went up theirs.
It is a really cool sacrifice he makes and he does it in a very light hearted way - it makes you smile that he gets his revenge on the aliens who abducted him and saves the world in the process. Awesome character. And how he goads the aliens on to challenge him, so badass.
I remember this scene: I was 21 at the time, in college, no children of my own. Today, I have 3 children ages 12, 10, and 7, and seeing this scene again after all these years hit me differently now that I am a father of 3 children. A father’s love and sacrifice holds no limitations.
Same. Now that I have my own children, I cannot help but tear up when he says, “Tell my children I love them very much.”
Same for me, i am a father of two girls now. It really hits much harder when you have kids.
Amen brother. Spot on. 100% correct.
It makes me tear up and I don’t even have children but I can feel it sacrifice never comes lightly so many people take the sacrifices real life hero’s made to keep this country free for granted when he looks at that picture I just think about how many men in the battlefield did the same thing before they did something they knew they might not come back from

It's a good scene. But come on. Calling it the best is just silly. Just as silly as the US president actually taking part in any attack.
+Tom Oosterbroek
You forget that Russell flew jets in the military prior to his civilian life as a crop duster, and just because he drank too much does not mean that he would not be fully capable of operating a jet fighter with dead-on precision if he were fully sober and fully focused. Furthermore, the USA has in the past elected as president highly trained, deadly, former military officers who, if faced with such a situation, would have quite likely responded exactly as the fictional character in this film does. Who is to say that in the near future it could not happen. YES, this is one of the best scenes in cinematic history.

True.
How this guy didn't get many huge roles is a mystery to me. Every time I see him in a film he is completely believable.
Not lojng after he basically went nuts and fled to Canada with his wife to avoid being arrested for some illegal nonsense back home. I want to say (without looking) he and his spouse squatted in someone's vacation home and were trying to avoid the lawsuit that resulted. I hate to have to admit this but when I play the mission in Star Trek online whereyou have to save Kronos from being destroyed by the planet killer unleashed by species 8472 the part where Captain Shon sets his Aquarius escort on a collision course with the planet killer thankfully he does get to beam out before it impacts the the weapon you have to protect his ship and I can't help it I sometimes say let's give Captain Shon some cover gentlemen let's plow the road and I unleash full phasers or whatever weapon I have on my ship full power on those bad guys!
City Destroyer: I am... inevitable.
Russell Casse: And I.. am... baaaaaack!
(Destroyer weapon and ship explode)
TheNicotinamide lol this
It's odd how much this fits perfectly. XD
Ohhh, snap!!
"Hello, boys! I'm back!"
Aside from President Whitmore's Independence Day speech (but let's be real, that speech can not be beat), this is my favorite line from the movie
@2:03. Jesus walking into town three days after being killed
[Independence Day 2]
Alien : Hello, human! We're back!

Human: THROW THE CHEEEEEESE!!!
Alien guy: aliens....
Ah, yes. From their perspective, we're the aliens.

This is Cinema. Will never get old.
When you know how it's going to end but you face the void with defiance. That's the true face of courage.
This movie was very underrated . It should have got much more recognition . It was so well acted . There were exciting scenes and very beautiful touching scenes . Not to mention great special effects.
Epic last words
Alien 1: Intensify the forward cannon I don't want anything to get through.
[Russell gets closer]
Alien 1:INTENSIFY FORWARD FIRE POWER!
Russell: HELLO BOYS I'M BACK!
Alien 2: TOO LATE!
[EXPLOSION]
Zack Osburne star war
28 years on and I still get goosebumps from this scene; now that I’m a father and understand the sacrifice he made
I have to admit, this is one of the most heroic battlescene
Sacrifices his own life to save his people, such true heroism!
Never forget Russell Casse and his heroic sacrifice to save the people of Earth.
This scene has a mixture of all kinds of emotions.
Heroic.
Funny.
Sadness.
The most badass sacrifice a father has ever made in cinematic history.
Hello Earthlings! We're BACCCKKK!!!
ayy lmao
+SgtBaker16 LMAO xD
+Darth Elvis With how disappointing movies are these days? I do too. xD
You will be remembered Russell.
+Brendan McCallion Hope you aliens have better anti-virus software this time!
(Yeah, I know this joke was used a billion times but I couldn't help it!) XD
The world really needs good heroes and good man like him.
Watched this in the cinemas when It first came out and boy this part got the whole audience standing up cheering.
I am in floods of tears every time I see this scene.
I don't care how cheesy this scene it, it always gives me Goosebumps. The perfect ending to a failed pilot; he got to live his one dream of being in a real sortie and dogfighting with the pros. His life couldn't get better than that so the sacrifice was his perfect ending. It showed, although, he lacked the technical abilities to be a pro fighter pilot; he still had the heart of a hero (and that shows up in ANYONE).
Aliens : Humans will be an easy species to conquer right?
Humans : *HELLO BOYS!*
Hehe buoiii
No.
HFY
