Good morning Dmitry, from Nova Scotia and would like to head to your roof process conference in Vegas , I have been to the ire every year , what is the difference in the conference, more round table discussion I am guessing, could you respond and let me know , thanks mark Bonnell, owner of gutter done
I'm not a roofer by any means, I initially just subscribed because I appreciated your honesty and integrity. If all I need to do is like and comment to support you then by all means you've got mine.
Your influence and trust has grown to the point that a big player wants to Quash you. It's your opinion and many others opinion and you have the right to voice it. If CERTS can't stand the heat then they will be crushed by their ignorance. Fight the Fight. If you don't ever include them in your reviews I would think that people would recognize that CERTS is a non- contributor to the industry.
Roofer for 30 years. Certainteed Landmark Pro are the best shingle on the market. I roof on the coast of SC and have had zero blow offs since switching from GAF to Certainteed.
I’m a sheet metal roofer, trying to get into an entry level sales position. I’ve done everything you can think of - metal. Witches hats, turrets, domes, bays, barns, airports, inside bars and counters etc. . I want to know why the industry is really hurt the guys at the bottom, while the owners of the companies are killing it. I want to understand more, and I’ve been watching your videos for a couple weeks now, and it’s pretty wild. Thanks so much for all you do! I support you so much! Keep sharing the truth, my brother!
We are with you all the way Dmitriy! We need speakers like you to build strong community's with the best products out there and big thanks to you we work smarter and better.
I believe in you and referred my friend to use Directorii to replace her roof. That contractor got the job because of your honesty and what you are doing.
I have a literal letter from CT showing their reduced color options by product on their letterhead if you need. I can also provide the price increase documentation as well since 2020.
You are the man!!! Screw them! I'm on the front line and I wouldn't recommend them again based on how they are treating you. It's too bad because I didn't always feel that way.
I am Gaf master elite in Nova Scotia have great support from my rep , never had an issue, I believe in loyalty to a brand as long as they back and support your business
I am not a roofer, just have a couple of houses I am remodeling. I have noticed weirdness about roofers and the whole business. Thank you for speaking up and showing that there actually is something to support my suspicions!
I’m not a roofer but from my experience with getting quotes, all I can say is that they are in the business of making money, a lot of ,obey, the less they can pay for material the better. Even when you read some of the literature on shingles, they stress things that are beneficial to the roofer. So, unless you are getting the bargain basement shingle, “standard” brands are all about the same, I have Certainteed, put on 12 years ago, still good. I’m now comparing my shingle to GAF HDZ- paper thin and light, IKO Dynasty-heavier and thicker than GAF but not as heavy as my CT, also on the IKO, the tar line on edge of shingle was not as consistent as the CT, so, on my hail dog roof, I’m sticking with CT. I don’t have the OC Duration to compare. So, overall, getting a honest roofer, great roofer, is probably the biggest challenge .
I would love to see them in court with you. 😂. Every single manufacture has its own flaws. Best thing we can do as contractors is make the product stronger by knowing each and individual flaw. 🙏. Get em’ bro 👌
I have asked my installers (the ones that actually handle and know what is quality) what they think about C-Teed and they aren't impressed. Keep speaking the truth
I install them and i would say my issues with them are the dimensions are often wonky they will be different sizes and the granual loss and smudging in the summer is pretty horrible
We switched from OC to Certainteed to Atlas. Mostly because lack of leverage and rebate. OC couldn’t keep colors and kept hiking prices, Certainteed wouldn’t work with us on branding and marketing. With Atlas we are a big fish in a smaller pond, so we are getting better attention, rebates, incentives, etc.
Biggest issue I've found with the past shortage, is association approved color ! As an Ownes corning contractor, I've benefited for that matter ,I never had a shortage on any color
We're behind support you dimitry, we do install CertainTeed and true they do suck on supplying all their colors of shingles this year specially, we got to switch to other brands just for that
For what it's worth... our CertainTeed Landmark Shingles failed in 60 mph winds (roof is ONLY 5 years old) even though they are rated for 110 mph. Because of this failure, we lost 30% of the shingles
How did you guy go about installing them in the winter I see a lot of issues with CT landmark roof that had been installed in the winter. If your in the south that wouldn't be a problem.
Ive installed over 200 certainteed landmark/ northgate shingles we have had horrible storms in calgary since installation. No call backs from blow offs. If i had to make a guess i would say its due to their wide nailing zone they allow you to nail outside of the common bond area. Which i completely disagree with. Our crew nails common bond and we get no problems
from watching your videos, i never had the impression that you are knocking at certainteed… good luck on your fight with them, ppl follow your channel bc you say it the way it is and have integrity
Get ‘em!!! The marketing gimmick is my biggest concern. Homeowners never wanna hear that their roof is dead after 20 years on average. The response is always “but it’s a 40 year shingle”.
They don't sell shingles as a 40 year or a what-ever-year shingle anymore. That's why they are all limited life time. Different climates and house orientation make major influences on aging and wear and tear.
I think the fact they are so worried and doing this speaks directly too how confident they are in their own products. If they truly believed in it being solid they would be out there doing tests and challenging other brands showing their strengths off. I dont know why these brands dont just start making a good fucking shingle. Were going to the moon but can barely make a shingle that doesn't blow off or rip or smudge...
Every single day lately, I have contractors & homeowners (who speak well of you) say they are disappointed that a video comparing Euroshield to a particular product (that I cannot tell the unfortunate truth about) is no longer accessible.
I’ve been a roofing contractor in dfw market for 40 yrs. Certainteed is certainly the worst product in roofing industry by far. They are the only roof product I will not use. Starting next week I began the process of a lawsuit against them because their quality is horribly off the charts. I looked at a roof for Usaa insurance which I hold in highest regard. I have installed their product in class IV 5 times this year. It turns out after 2 were defective I called the other costumers and suggested I come evaluate. All are defective. They turned down all claims.
My IKO roof failed during Ian. Less than 2 years old. Was considering CertainTeed but can't get color I want. How about Atlas? Advice would be appreciated
Talk to your lawyer my friend. Number one rule of cease and desist is refrain from discussing the letter or the underlying issues with anyone except your attorney. Avoid posting or asking for advice about the situation online, as your posts could be used against you. If your lawyer says they have a good case, consider removing the video. If you do end up in court and win, then ask your lawyer if it is wise to discuss the case online. Unfortunately, they are a big company. Even though I agree with you, courts rarely side with common sense. Rather, they focus on whether a specific law was broken, regardless of personal bias or opinions.
I am looking to get a new roof in big rapids mi. I would appreciate info about how to decide which contractor to look for, which shingle to use , what other materials I need to know what to question contractor use on my job. You are fighting with companies now for giving this kind of real information. What about the consumers need for 2022 info. Can you help or can you suggest other references to help figure out the smart move to getting a new roof. Thank Tim
The first shingle I ever installed was CertainTeed Landmark. I have sold CertainTeed as a start up business. I now use GAF. I have a homeowner with 2 houses with CertainTeed roofs, He is very hesistant to use CertainTeed again! I like the product but He says He needs more information to feel comfortable with CertainTeed. I came here to find some supportive information to send to him. ... I won't be sending him this video!!! 😂 I like NorthGate Class four CertainTeed Shingles but GAF HDZ for all normal roofing.
Dmitry Lipinskiy I live in El Paso TX. I am a home owner looking to replace my 6 year old roof due to Hail damage Im having a difficult time finding a supplier that sells quality architectural shingles that can stand up to out frequent winds, occasional hail and intense sun. Can you make a recommendation for a supplier and any specific products that will fill my needs? Thank You
Please review the Pabco line of shingles I used to use it almost exclusively years back always had good luck no batch differences and I think a very quality shingle but you never hear much about them please let me know what you think
They are not saying you can’t express your opinion. They are asking you not to express your opinion on a public forum. Imagine if they were expressing their opinion of the roofing company you owned in a similar fashion and airing it to your customers. You wouldn’t take kindly to that and quite frankly I wouldn’t blame you.
I switch to IKO about a year ago and I am leaving them it is not a good product, I have had more problems with IKO then any other company. I use OC. It may be the plant I am getting product from, but it takes my guys an extra day per install because the shingle won’t hold lines.
IF you fight this Kingdom Roofing will donate $1,000 towards your legal fees. I watched the original video. It was honorable and truthful. That's garbage that CT went there.
Not a roofer, but you’ve got my support. Also, SRS Supply - I know they recently bought out a roofing distributor in the Bay Area(RoofLine in Oakland), move to compete against ABC Supply and Beacon(who bought out Allied Roofing in NorCal a while back)? There’s one small mom & pop in Oakland not far from ABC Supply that moves a lot of CertainTeed and IKO Cambridge. Bay Area seems to be a big GAF market, and mostly from ABC or Home Depot. When I was at Beacon asking for shingle samples, I noticed they sell more OC and CertainTeed over GAF at the location I went to.
Dimitri, you have to ask yourself what your intended outcome would be before you take on a fight with a major manufacturer. Nothing you can accomplish will stop them from colluding, from bullying distributors, from misrepresenting their alleged improvements, or actually change anything.
Certainteed needs to FIX whatever it is about their products &/or warranties that is causing complaints from customers and roofers, instead of trying to cover it up with threats of lawsuits! Have some integrity please! You should stand behind your products, and if they fail to live up to your claims of performance then you should make it right with the customer! Period!
This is michael. I'm researching shingles now and because they're trying to forbid your freedom of speech to do honest reviews, I'm not going to buy their shingles even though I didn't see the former TH-cam!
Mixed feelings here. I don’t approve of bullying but sometimes you have to consider other factors. 1) What do you hope to accomplish? 2) Is the speculation something that they could argue is detrimental to their company? Did it cause damage? 3) Will a fight make a difference? I would be impressed if you can prevail. It would seem fair to say that CT had a lawsuit because they sold an organic shingle that was defective. When talking about concerns, I would also find something positive if there is positive to show. For instance, their Flintlastic product for low slope is amazing and shows me that they have come a long way since they got sued in a class action lawsuit for the organic shingle they were selling.
The late Ken Hendrix, founder of ABC SUPPLY, had a yacht that he named the back end for the obvious reason that there are back in deals with manufacturers
I’ve been thinking about switching away from CertainTeed for a while for all of the reasons listed in the videos, plus the number of problematic shingles that I’ve come across that are less than 12 or 13 years old. We have great local rep who is the only reason that I still use their products, but this makes we want to stop using them immediately. I may have just placed my last set of CertainTeed orders. We will see
I drove by a house that was being reroofed with CertainTeed Landmark shingles… and #15 felt. Granted, we don’t see extreme wind/hail in NorCal but it looked like a hack job. Sure, shingles are getting thinner - CT sells on thickness but my parents roofer told me OC’s his favorite out of the 3 majors. Thanks to Dimitry, I chose OC Duration Cool shingles and synthetic underlayerment for my parent’s roof - and their neighbor did the same.
Were in Montreal Canada we used BP exclusively for 31 years the last 5 years we didn't have a Rep literally 0 communication, (we don't need hand holding) switched to IKO this year, transition was smooth thanks to our rep (shoutout to Jeffrey Logan @ IKO) see you in Vegas, Dmitry
CertainTeed is all about selling the big ticket. Most expensive system warranty. Area rep Mike Ivars takes months to respond help questions. No benefit to using this product.
Working Florida outside of the direct impact zone, found it odd that of all the blow-offs that occurred - they were all CertainTeed shingles. I have a feeling they’re on the verge of some sort of Class Action lawsuit for manufacturing defective product.
Geez, your video is just your own opinion and the big bully company wants to shut you up. I'd fight it if you have the money, they must be afraid to lose money based on your video. Good Luck.
Why should we pay for your legal fees. You uploaded it and you know what you were doing while you were recording this. Take ownership and walk the walk. We like what you uploaded but every action comes with responsibility
I own my shit but I don’t need to fight every fight. I can walk away from many stories that don’t touch me personally. Sometimes you do things for others and sometimes you organize people who want to change something, would never benefit from it.
Challenge them to a shingle bundle lifting contest. ground to overhead with 80lb bundle, as many reps as possible in 5 minutes. Winner has to make video explaining they were wrong.
@vybo8921 Not making things up, that's the truth. Every roofer I've ever met knows it, The channel owner knows it, and most importantly, the customer will know it when Owen's Corning Durration lasts that extra 5-10 years.
Like you said in your video , how Certinteed claim you was talking about them, but how I was raised is the chicken that does the quacking is generally the one who is laying the egg , and that is why Certinteed is responding to your video as they are because they are suspect and I can disclose to you why .
I’ve never had a problem with any of the thousands of certainteed roofs I’ve installed over the decades but I did stop using GAF a number of years ago when they wouldn’t honor a warranty and their shingle quality deteriorated…The day the quality goes down is the day I stop using any product… I just noticed the cybertruck model..I’m number 20,000 in line..hopefully in about 6 months I’ll get one,Tesla contacted me last week..I also put a deposit on the CyberlandR…and Aptera…
Take the advice of someone who represented building material manufacturers for 44 years . Take the video down . The largest manufacturers jealously guard their logo and have a wing of lawyers at the ready to defend it . Those $ you would spend can best be used growing and helping roofers as market conditions change Yes , all the suppliers had supply issues . Yes , the price rose exponentially when the demand unexpectedly grew during a pandemic and winter inventories couldn’t be replaced quickly enough Capitalism “rewards “ an undersupply … and punishes an oversupply . I would focus on what happens to the price as the Fed over tightens interest rates and demand drops . The forecast is for rates to drop back into the 2% rate as a recession happens due to over tightening Roofers who didn’t pass on those increases to the market are bad businessmen . If you weren’t sold out for the last 18 months , you were doing something terribly wrong .
I share your same concerns and I'm sure we can help each other. I'm not sure how to get in touch with you or if I should type into this comment my email , address , or phone number. I don't have any social media what so ever , so how can we get to talk . ?

Sure, shingles are getting thinner - CT sells on thickness but my parents roofer told me OC’s his favorite out of the 3 majors.
Thanks to Dimitry, I chose OC Duration Cool shingles and synthetic underlayerment for my parent’s roof - and their neighbor did the same.
@@nfthach Not the shingles fault. The OC is a thin one with good tar strip. Some complain you cannot get them off for a repair.
If you change your name, can they still sue you since you are a different person?
Were in Montreal Canada we used BP exclusively for 31 years the last 5 years we didn't have a Rep literally 0 communication, (we don't need hand holding) switched to IKO this year, transition was smooth thanks to our rep (shoutout to Jeffrey Logan @ IKO) see you in Vegas, Dmitry
CertainTeed is all about selling the big ticket. Most expensive system warranty. Area rep Mike Ivars takes months to respond help questions. No benefit to using this product.
This video will help you, not letter issuer. Expect another one. 😉
Great work, good vid
you deserve this, you're a marketer
They will never do it. And I am not a marketer, we are media company.
@@RoofingInsights3.0 stop scamming people dude, I was huge fan of yours, installed the shingles you recommended, got screwed by customers :(
@@RoofingInsights3.0 anyways, the video's quite old I wanna see the outcome , what happned next? :D
GAF is is overprice and over marketed. That shingle can’t handle wind from my wife’s blow dryer haha
Beast
Working Florida outside of the direct impact zone, found it odd that of all the blow-offs that occurred - they were all CertainTeed shingles.
I have a feeling they’re on the verge of some sort of Class Action lawsuit for manufacturing defective product.
Sir people like them look at you like ur a small fry kinda how you look at me a small fry
Just because of this, I wouldn't buy this brand and l will go for Malarkey brand
Do want best supports your goals with this channel. They’ll likely back down
Geez, your video is just your own opinion and the big bully company wants to shut you up.
Sometimes you do things for others and sometimes you organize people who want to change something, would never benefit from it.
stop putting on roofs that have seal down technology.
Challenge them to a shingle bundle lifting contest. ground to overhead with 80lb bundle, as many reps as possible in 5 minutes. Winner has to make video explaining they were wrong.
The only thing about certainteed is that its certainteed to fail. Ownes Corning durration all day.
The only thing about Owens Corning is that they are Corny. See how silly it is to make things up?
@vybo8921 Not making things up, that's the truth. Every roofer I've ever met knows it, The channel owner knows it, and most importantly, the customer will know it when Owen's Corning Durration lasts that extra 5-10 years.
i had certainteed shingles after watching roofing insights i went with atlas
I replaced my roof this year using certainteed , if I know Iko is good I will never used certainteed
Like you said in your video , how Certinteed claim you was talking about them, but how I was raised is the chicken that does the quacking is generally the one who is laying the egg , and that is why Certinteed is responding to your video as they are because they are suspect and I can disclose to you why .
I’ve never had a problem with any of the thousands of certainteed roofs I’ve installed over the decades but I did stop using GAF a number of years ago when they wouldn’t honor a warranty and their shingle quality deteriorated…The day the quality goes down is the day I stop using any product…
I just noticed the cybertruck model..I’m number 20,000 in line..hopefully in about 6 months I’ll get one,Tesla contacted me last week..I also put a deposit on the CyberlandR…and Aptera…
I was thinking of going with Certainteed Northgate, but now I will consider others first.
Haha they literally have no basis to sue, just trying to bully and hoping you bend over, I guess they haven’t seen your videos 😂
Take the advice of someone who represented building material manufacturers for 44 years .
Take the video down .
The largest manufacturers jealously guard their logo and have a wing of lawyers at the ready to defend it .
Those $ you would spend can
best be used growing and helping roofers as market conditions change
Yes , all the suppliers had supply issues .
Yes , the price rose exponentially when the demand unexpectedly grew during a pandemic and winter inventories couldn’t be replaced quickly enough
Capitalism “rewards “ an undersupply … and punishes an oversupply .
I would focus on what happens to the price as the Fed over tightens interest rates and demand drops .
The forecast is for rates to drop back into the 2% rate as a recession happens due to over tightening
Roofers who didn’t pass on those increases to the market are bad businessmen .
If you weren’t sold out for the last 18 months , you were doing something terribly wrong .
Fight them Dmitry, i hope to see you vegas soon
I share your same concerns and I'm sure we can help each other. I'm not sure how to get in touch with you or if I should type into this comment my email , address , or phone number. I don't have any social media what so ever , so how can we get to talk . ?
