I was so glad to finally spot the one owl. I think they are hard to find during the day. I thought it was funny that we asked the other hikers if they saw anything good and they said, "no, just some owls." I wonder what in the world they were hoping to see! Bigfoot?
Hahaha! It's all about priorities! 😂 Steve gets a lot of comments on that shirt. It's getting to the end of its life though. Sadly, I think he'll have to retire it soon. We saw so many dolphins on this trip. We're waiting for the day when we have an opportunity to go out on a boat and see them playing in the wake. That would be so cool! We considered trying to do a boat tour on this trip but ran out of time.
He was very brave! 🙂 I love finding all those critters! Still no sand dollar though... One of these days! We definitely plan to get back there next winter. Maybe that would make a good meet-up spot!
Glad you found your Great Horned Owl. It's hard to find them in daytime because they don't move around and staying quiet. Honeymoon Island has been on my list for a while but still haven't been there. Definitely wanna go there as soon as the weather is cooling down. Thanks 🙂👍
I was so glad too! We found a hiker who said to look for a football-shaped object high up in the trees and that helped. I really was prepared to not leave until we saw one! LOL! It was such a beautiful park! Too bad so many of these barrier island parks don't have camping!
@@SteveAudra Back in the beginning of year I was hoping to camp at Honeymoon Island and even called them but they said no camping here, so I stayed at Fort DeSoto instead, that was good too.

Audra, do you have a Golden Guide or Peterson's Guide to Birds? Kinda fun checking them off the list in the book and adding a date and location to help you remember. They also have shell identifiers .
Hi Michele! I actually use the Merlin app, which allows me to identify birds by photo or sound and then it allows me to mark when and where I saw the bird. I find that to be a great resource! I don't think I've actually heard of the two guides you mention. I used to know my shells much better but have gotten rusty on identification.
Love continuing watching your adventures. Wanted to ask you about the rear screen you originally put in your van. Do you still have/use this? I travel with a little Yorkie. She loves to look out the back and was thinking the screen wall you made would work for us. How did your cat like it?
Hi Vickie! How was your first day camping trip and have you been out again since? Yes, we do use our screen occasionally, especially if it's buggy. We showed using it in this series, in part 5 when we were at Boca Grande. It works really well. Our cat is a bit of a scaredy cat. We originally came up with the design idea because we wanted to make sure our cats were contained. We don't have to worry about that with Gray Gray though. She doesn't have much interest in leaving the van during the day! But we have also used it one time at night and then it was really helpful for making sure she couldn't wander off. We're really happy with the design.
