We do! There are many different programs, and tons of ways we can reach out for physical/mental counselling. Basically any way you could think of relieving stress in a positive way.
I really admire these 911 dispatchers, heroes. They really need to be emotionally and mentally strong to be able to come back again and repeat the same routine everyday.
Yes, usually the dispatchers are the one ones in the building at night. The other offices are closed and units are out on patrol. In some small centers they only have two or even one dispatcher working at a time.
Love that it went right from an infuriating and stupid call to a serious sad one. That's the reality of the job. One minute some guy is calling 911 on his neighbor's dog keeping him up, the next some father walks in on his daughter's suicide attempt. Gotta put it behind you though and not let it carry over to how you handle the next call.
Ashtin Paulet Least they hung up first. I had a buddy get two gunshots over an open line in his first month. We had a young woman have a guy jump phone in hand. We tease the dispatcher that he'd rather have ended it all then spent one more minute talking to her. We're kind of a dark humor bunch.
Very well done. I would say it's a very realistic look at the emotions of a call taker/dispatcher. This is something I've considered doing, and this along with the two other 911 short films (Anna Akana and Jake Boyer) are making me seriously consider both sides of this job.
Getting calls ranging from people calling from bullshit reasons, to sassing you, to hearing someone scream bloody murder over the phone out of fear or whatever may be going on. Shit can expose you to some scary stuff, and if you're the kind of person to truly sympathize with peoples problems, you will leave work thinking about whether all those people got the help they needed or not.
Imagine being on the line to someone and hearing their last words, knowing that you failed to keep them alive. I don’t know how the operators do it. They’re so brave..
When I was about 5 I always wondered why my aunt came back home crying I always asked her but she said some things happened to people so I thought she was talking about people dying in shootings, house fires and that she felt bad...but when I saw this just a few weeks ago that's when it hit me this...this is what she was so upset about. I know the feeling that you can't help someone in need, when you give all your best and its shot down by the person who your talking to, No this does not imply that I attempted suicide just a saying
As someone who has been a 911 Dispatcher, this video was very accurate on the job. Unfortunately, you just move onto the next call. There are things we hear that someone may never hear in their lifetime. Please appreciate your 911 Dispatchers.
I worked as an EMT on an ambulance for 5 years and I can assure you that dispatching is a very stressful job. Her crying over someone she has never met then wiping away the tears and being professional for the next caller is 100% accurate.
May_phan_ Be_with_you Not at all. And in truth it is all for nothing and it will all be forgotten.... but we can't just give up because one day in the future someone might not know your name. We can't give up because right now it's hard. Or because you haven't done anything impossible until now. We push for what we want to enjoy our lives. We have one life and we can waste it for something we have no idea what is. Or we can force ourselves to be where we want to be in the one we have right now. In my view of life you either give up and not know and be empty, or you do it and love that you did it because it was hard.
By his voice, you can tell what he looks like.. well... at least I can get a vivid picture. He’s most likely white, though not too white. He has brown or black hair.. that’s pretty much what I can grasp and idk if that’s even right.
I remember some of the various 911 calls I've made. I made one for domestic violence. I've made one when I thought my mum was gonna die, she was having an alcohol overdose or something of the sorts. I remember the last call I've made, it's the most recent and I hope it's the last, expressing my concerns that no one could contact my mother and that they should send the police. We got a call back and she was gone. Must be a hard job.
I dont know how I came across this.. from clicking on another short story. But Ive had day dreams about something similar to this. Like if I killed myself, I think Id call to report a suicide, give the address then doing before the Ambulance arrived. This was good. I wish it was a full length feature. I could listen to it forever.
I can't believe how hard it is for these operators. They work a job meant to save lives, and those lives depend on them. And that every person that dies before they are saved by 911 makes them think that it is their fault. That a life could have been saved because of them. In the Alan call, when the call ended, Fay realized that Alan had already killed himself. The reason why she went to the bathroom and cried isn't because she "Just feels bad for Alan" its because she thought it was her fault that Alan had died. She then had to go back to her workspace to answer another call, hoping that she could save a life this time. It shows that she has to move on from the emotional pain from the last call, and focusing on this next person. I really think that 911 operators deserve more. Really.
That’s so sad. The operators go through more than you think. They have feelings too. This is why it’s stupid of people to call about stupid things like the girl who couldn’t get in their phone. They are sad and they do care, but it’s their job so they have to do that every day. I can’t imagine😣
I used to feel like Alan. What’s the point? But feeling good and happy is worth it and I realize that now. Enjoying life is a good thing, and that’s why you want to live.
Sofia when u become happy then u become sad , u get to a point where u don't want happenies because its like a circle of endless pain u gonna feel happy sad happy sad and it is just sucks it happens to me all the time u get to a point u hate happenies u hate feelings and when u do u feel empty till death comes after u
Moonlight if this was/is happening to you, then you were never truly happy. You just had happy moments, but you yourself probably weren’t happy. It takes time and many attempts, but one day, you will overcome it and get to know what happiness truly is. When you are truly happy.
She forgot to dispatch an ambulance... or police .. or anyone. It looked like she was in the 911 center by herself. Maybe she dispatched them after he died. She couldn't multi-task. :(
It takes a strong person mentally to be a 9/11 dispatcher to hear the screams of a victim,a suicidal talker,a killer confessing,i don't know how they do how is a good question
Very well done, you've looked at a dispatcher job and shown the reality of it and shown within it shown how it can affect a person emotionally. Who else nearly.... Cried
deal with this everyday, sometimes or days its louder, somedays its farther away...some days i need a faye in my life. i feel this whole conversation of this vid is conversation in my head alot of times, head on. i like faye alot, her voice and tone are very soothing, wish listen to her more. like calm wave overtaking the bad thoughts
People don't realize but the worse part about trying or committing suicide is that most people who do it regret the decision too late. Either they get lucky and someone is able to help or....they don't...
Today i was at a dispeching for urgent calls ( family friends ) and yesturday they got a call of a crash with a 7 person family and a semi, the guy who called just drove by, didnt stop so they didnt know what to send, they sent an ambulance with a doctor and a doctor alone, only 1 kid lived bcs they couldnt help the rest, they died after the crash not during the crash, the kid was watching his family die.
I like it ! Really ! I love it ! As strong as the game, as strong as "The Guilty" ! But… yet, I think something's missing. I think you should have add some sound elements that help the spectator to locate the calling character "Alan" in his room. I can't imagine what Alan's flat looks like… it'll be better if I was able too.
I think the answer to his question is to accept that you aren’t meaningful and that you aren’t changing anything. And to then stop caring about it. Why does your life have to matter, why does it have to be meaningful.
Similar kind of thing as the 2015 UK BAFTA winning short film, Operator. Both quite powerful in their own way. th-cam.com/video/OHttwpafBQE/w-d-xo.html
911 dispatchers should really get free mental health counseling
We do! There are many different programs, and tons of ways we can reach out for physical/mental counselling. Basically any way you could think of relieving stress in a positive way.
Drews Gaming like heroine?
hahaha
911 dispatchers do get free mental health care due too things like stressful calls or some other things.
We do. Thank you for caring. ❤
I really admire these 911 dispatchers, heroes. They really need to be emotionally and mentally strong to be able to come back again and repeat the same routine everyday.
Weird Kimmy same this is very sad 😭😭😭
And there are those who says "go handle it yourself"
The 'Alan' call was the first call I got when on my own after training. People were surprised I came back the next day. I love my job.
Sarah McGee I wanna be a dispatcher.. one day, I wanna help people.
Sarah McGee Did you save him....? You don't have to answer but just curious.
Did u save him
Yea did you you don’t have to answer
Sarah McGee thank you for saying people...cause they saved my life😭
Just had to call 911 yesterday because my dad was unconscious. Very thankful for the calm dispatcher on the phone calming me, so I could help him.
Hope he is ok
I hope your dad is doing fine.
“We are someone until we’re not.” Shit, hit me so deep 😭
Really hit home, way to showcase the obvious issues along with the underlying realities of the job.
Are you guys left alone in the building at night like that ?!?! How scary
Yes, usually the dispatchers are the one ones in the building at night. The other offices are closed and units are out on patrol. In some small centers they only have two or even one dispatcher working at a time.
Camila Cortez it depends on the size of the department and average call volume. My dispatch center has between 9 to 15 dispatchers at a time.
The hero's behind the scenes... Everyone means something
Thank you
THIS ACTRESS IS INCREDIBLE. Who is she??
MissNebulosity
Kally Khourshid
+Mady Is a Derp Thank you so much!!
MissNebulosity np!
Maybe the wife of the guy which voiced as 911 operator in the 911 operator game?
That was...really depressing
Marc Shlyshen ewe

Do u ever take it home
Very accurate. In some centers, that's the first 5 minutes of the shift! 😔
The Alan one is so deep
the "Alan" calls are some of the worst ones.........
Madge242 I had a call almost like this. He told me goodbye disconnected and killed himself. Talk about rough.
some of best ones too. i dont cry often but i did with this 1
Ashtin Paulet Least they hung up first. I had a buddy get two gunshots over an open line in his first month. We had a young woman have a guy jump phone in hand. We tease the dispatcher that he'd rather have ended it all then spent one more minute talking to her. We're kind of a dark humor bunch.

James Burton same ! This been on my mind for the longest. People r saying its going to be tough, but I don't rely know y?

Was she a call operator?
Yes......yes she was
N8vGamer 03Boy you should watch the anna akana emergency call.

“Can I ask you a question Fey, while we’re both here waiting?..”
I really feel for Alan. I relate to everything he said.
Dispatchers need to be very emotionally strong to do what they do. They have no time to dwell on the last situation they delt with either
Sometimes we do.
Who the hell had the audacity to dislike this?
Andrew Covington people who couldn't accept the fact this video really hit them in the feels
Name-Of-User I guess
Andrew Covington a person
Andrew Covington I know those people are so rude
Andrew Covington I disliked just because of this comment :V
can I see this as a movie?
Reminds me of a very good friend of mine who's a criminal pathologist... The unseen realities these people have to endeavor can be heart wrenching.
Is it bad that I relate to that guy. I mean I relate to this guy a whole damn lot.

May_phan_ Be_with_you I'm right there with you on that.
Txgirl 38 what I pulled from the first few sentences is you have to think about suicide once in your life and if you haven’t then you’re unusual
Me too I sadly also relate but I never called someone to help me my mind said I ha e to do this stuff if I want to be happy
100% acurate depiction.
I just wanna see how Alan looks like.
No i won't judge him on his looks i just wanna see him.
Shamima Aktar he has a nice voice
I imagine Snape for some reason...
By his voice, you can tell what he looks like.. well... at least I can get a vivid picture. He’s most likely white, though not too white. He has brown or black hair.. that’s pretty much what I can grasp and idk if that’s even right.
I imagine him as a sweet depressed guy with a beard
Well, Allen's voice is Brian Jordan Alvarez, look him up.
This deserves more attention
Thank you
This touched me so much....sumtimes I feel like the guy over the phone ...this really got me so deep ...have been crying for about half an hour now...
I remember some of the various 911 calls I've made.
I made one for domestic violence.

_abbiegale_ im very sorry
"We are who we are until we're not"-Alan.
Sarah Johnson No offence but its spelled Alan
This definitely shows what they have to go through each day. It shows how much they do for us as people on this Earth. It made me really emotional
Great Short Film. Loved the story the acting and the music and the way it was filmed. Very well done.

no matter how many times i watch it...

The second one just hit me strait in my heart
So powerful... So true.
People need to respect the people who work at 911 every day and understand what they go through every day.
How is the ambulance not there yet smmjdjdjd
She forgot to dispatch an ambulance... or police .. or anyone. It looked like she was in the 911 center by herself.

Good job, miss.
Keep up the good work. This was very well written, beautifully shot, and masterfully performed.
This perfect bro which camera did you used
I WAS ON THE EDGE OF CRYING OK I SHOULD STOP
At what point do the operators hang up if the caller falls silent
I did not cry, but I was close, I had a big lump in my throat.
Their voices are so soothing idkk
How did I get from my neck my back to this?
The first one is me when wifi is out for 5 seconds
My dad used to be a 999 call taker
Amazing film!
Love it. Should of had more views
Does anybody know which camera they used for this movie?
Yasin Sari yes we shot on red dragon using Lomo anamorphics!
Matthew Lynn Thank you very much. 😊
I want to be a operator
it must be hard being an operator... but they must save sooo many people...
This is heart breaking...
anyone else noticed that the voice of the caller in the beginning of the video is Hannah Stocking?
Marilou 22 i dont think that’s her
deal with this everyday, sometimes or days its louder, somedays its farther away...some days i need a faye in my life. i feel this whole conversation of this vid is conversation in my head alot of times, head on. i like faye alot, her voice and tone are very soothing, wish listen to her more. like calm wave overtaking the bad thoughts

This is the hardest job for me and really anyone
the Alan story is so true
Alan sounds like Brian Jordan Alvarez.
talk about a slow ambulance bruh where is it coming from are they walking?
I almost cried.....

This is GREAT :)
I think the answer to his question is to accept that you aren’t meaningful and that you aren’t changing anything. And to then stop caring about it. Why does your life have to matter, why does it have to be meaningful.
This was brutal
The first one the girl was like "sht she being killed" but no phone
Wow. I have that same exact headset at my job! Plantronics ftw
chills.
This is the saddest short film i ever heard 😭
What is this from or is it an original
Honest Reviews this is an original short film by our company. Thank you for asking!
Matthew Lynn this could be an outright movie! This made me cry.
Similar kind of thing as the 2015 UK BAFTA winning short film, Operator. Both quite powerful in their own way.
