I'm a 911 dispatcher. I received a call almost exactly like this a decade ago when I started. This video hit home. Just wanted to say thanks for taking the time to put this together. When someone asks me what I do for a living I show them the video. The feedback I get is "I never stopped to think how you do it". Not every call is the same, but the feelings the actor expresses after the hang up are very much real. Thank you for making this. My co-workers and I appreciate your hard work.
This was the MOST HORRIFIC job I have ever had. I worked as a Dispatcher for a large city on the graveyard shift~10:30 pm to 6:30 am 5-7 days in a row with 3 to 4 days off. People being shot, being shot at, domestic violence, people dying and you’re the last person they speak to. When I left the job I had PTSD for minimum 2 years. Too devastating.
13 years ago I was at a women's clinic and they saw the bruises I had. I didn't say anything about them, but they informed me the local dispatchers are trained for the food delivery calls, to recognize them and work with the person on the other side. I didn't ask for details, but she told me the dispatcher may ask me about toppings and whatnot to describe the situation, the person hurting me, etc. Not much later I was in a situation that didn't involve the guy I was dating. My flatmate brought over a guy she'd just met, both were drunk, but she more than him. She locked herself in her room, leaving him in the main area of the flat with only me present. He came over with the idea of them having sex and went on about if she wasn't available I'd be the one who had sex with. Then he got angry because being so drunk he couldn't get an erection. I called 911 and ordered pizza. I was asked for details, one being if he has brown hair say you want mushrooms, if he has blonde hair say you want pineapple. Those kind of questions. The police arrived shortly thereafter, and when they knocked they said pizza delivery. The drunk guy opened the door and was taken by the police. I've spoken on tumblr about this and been called a liar, that I'm endangering people by encouraging them to do this very thing. I know not all dispatchers are trained for the food/pizza delivery call, but many of them will recognize that it is an emergency going on, that it's not a prank. Someone sent me a Reddit link with a screenshot of my tumblr post regarding this and many people have left cruel and disgusting comments. Maybe someday more dispatchers will be trained for the food/pizza delivery. Maybe someday I'll stop receiving nasty comments for sharing my experience. Thank you for posting and sharing this video. I hope it helps others.
As a dispatcher, the "ordering pizza" is a very inefficient method of gathering information for us as it requires us to suggest descriptors rather than just receiving them. But 13 years ago we also didn't have text so that is all you had to go on. With the addition and requirement of text-2-911 in all PSAPS, I hope to not get any "pizza" calls, as its much faster to just text an address and a problem and we still receive location information similar to calling into 911. And like the others have stated. internet is toxic.
I'm so sorry you had to go through that but so happy you were able to get help for yourself. You're one of the lucky ones. As far as people leaving vile comments, who cares? YOU know the truth, you lived it. The internet is full of bullies who's life work is trying to make others as miserable as they are. Tell your story, be proud of your strength and to hell with the ones who want to poo poo it. Everyone on the internet has an opinion about things they know nothing about. You knowing what happened and being saved by it is all the matters ♥️
Great video. I'm an Ex-Fire Chief and current EMS Captain on our volunteer Squad. I don't always appreciate the administrators of the dispatch center, but the dispatchers themselves are the best! My job would be much harder without them.
This is awesome! Thank you so much for putting a film like this together for everyone to see. As a 911 Dispatcher, we often get overlooked and somewhat forgotten when it comes to law enforcement and emergency services, because we aren't the person or persons that arrive to help or "save the day." But we do play a vital role in every call and every emergency. We are still effected by the calls we take/answer. As a fellow dispatcher, if you've been dispatching for awhile, like I have, I'm sure you still hear that voice or those voices, screaming and pleading for help from certain calls. They don't just go away, they stay with you. Even though this job can be stressful at times, I couldn't image doing anything else. #ThinGoldLine
Stressful at times? I found it to be the most stressful job I've ever had in my life. Who wants to call the police who's ever in a good mood when they call the police? If they call in the police, it's probably one of the worst moments of their lives. And in that worst moment of their life, it's your job to get certain key information like what's the guy with the gun wearing? Is the gun still there? What is the gun look like? Which direction did the guy go in? Okay information you have to get before you can safely send a police officer to that location. Meanwhile, the person on the phone is screaming at you crying begging to just send help. And then after all set and done the phone call just ends half the time. You don't know what the end result is. So you go home thinking about it all night. You sat dreaming about it. You start having nightmares about it. I never saw a job that required so many different hats to be worn. You have to be at hostage negotiator. You have to be a guidance counselor. You got to be a therapist. You have to be an detective. You have to be a medical labor coach. Medical instructor. I salute and thank anybody that can do the job if a dispatcher. I seen a lot of good men and women get burnt out by that job real quick. To selfless thankless creditless job. So I thank u for doing it. You are appreciated more than you will ever know
I am a 44 year old who has decided to train to be an emergency medical dispatcher. I'm currently in class this week, and this was the first time I ever heard about the pizza order or using code words. I am going into it with a very open mind and heart, knowing from all of my own unbelievable life experiences that I know I can help others with tremendous compassion, empathy and hard work. I'm extremely hard on myself, so I know I'll be constantly pushing myself to be the best I can be, but I am certainly not diluted into believing it will be something it isn't. Easy. But, the work and helping others... it's behind the scenes and in eyes, so admirable. If I pass my courses, I pray I can be worthy of that title. This video.. wow.
My brother was a 911 dispatcher and he was so good at it too. I know I never would’ve been able to do that. My brother died on the job. He did so much and wanted to do more in his short life he was a volunteer firefighter, on rescue squad, and became a dispatcher. All he wanted to do was help people and I know he would’ve loved this.❤️
Judging by the videos of actual 911 calls I've been watching lately, there are a lot of 911 dispatchers who would benefit from this video. A lot of them have forgotten that they are someones lifeline and it's not just a job. For the rest of them who are compassionate and competent, thank you for all you do. I know some calls stay with you and haunt you. Thank you for your sacrifice and commitment.
I'm currently a freshman in college studying criminal justice to become a 911 dispatcher. This has been my job choice since I was 15 when I saw the film The Call for the first time when it was in theaters. I know this job will be emotionally difficult and scary, I'll probably have anxiety for the rest of my life as do many 911 dispatchers. But I know that this is a risk that I'm willing to take to save lives. I know not every phone call I make will result in a happy ending, but it's still rewarding to know that I at least tried to help save a life even if it was just keeping them as calm as possible.
Brandon Dupont good luck man. The best advice I can give is to find what helps you cope. Whether it's getting fresh air for a minute or grabbing a mountain dew and snack. It's important to know your reset button mentally, don't get attached to your calls and find humor in the darkness you occasionally come across. Remember, it's hours of boredom interrupted by moments of chaos and That's what makes the thin gold line the greatest job in the world.
This video just confirmed what I always knew....I was made for this and I can be that calm voice for someone who needs help. I was created for this line of work and I'm looking forward to many years of helping people.
I love this video a lot. I'm not a dispatcher but I do work at a crisis hotline and I recall a lot of these same emotions. You absolutely get used to it, but you'll never know what you get. Especially hearing noises in the background, answering phone calls to screams, and having to not only keep the caller on the line while also telling dispatch every detail you can squeeze out of someone in crisis. Shoutout to everyone who has ever been in this line of work. You're all amazing.
I've cried, too. I used to be a rescuer for my local emergency service... I can only imagine the horrible callings dispatchers recive and it's like hearing without doing anything in that exact moment, but actually knowing that what you are going to do probabily will save patients' lives. Amazing job.
Wow, couldn’t be more accurate. It really hits home when the magnitude of the domestic or any high priority call comes in, then once that’s done you’ve got to be ready for the next. I’m thankful to be a police dispatcher it is very rewarding, but can take a toll sometimes.
I've been dispatching for 8 years now and this video is amazing. It is technically a dramatization but this is as real as it gets. Thank you for putiting this together.
Thank you very very much for your posting if this video,it has truly opened my eyes, and given me a deeper appreciation for dispatche're and all of those who serve so many in our greatest times of need, thank you very much!
This was really well made! I came into this completely blind and just looking for an accurate representation of what it's like to be a 911 Emergency Dispatcher. This did the trick. Edge of my seat!
Who ever wrote this must have experience on the job. They nailed it like only a dispatcher could. I dispatched for the Providence Police department for 7 years before I quit. Im probably the only one in history that quit a city job in this state. I couldn't handle not knowing the outcome. My last call was a mother from Boston crying her eyes out cuz her daughter was missing. She had come down to RI to go clubing and never made it home and the mother just saw on the news a girls body was found behind a club in Prov and desperately wanted to know if that was her daughter. I guess to detectives I transferred the call too didn't give her a straight answer so she kept calling back.after 5 calls listening to this lady cry and beg for answers. And me having none plus my daughter was just recently born. That call real messed up my head and i still don't know if it was her daughter. Not knowing the outcome to half the calls that come across ur desk really starts to mess with u. Constant nightmares. And you slowly stop trusting the world because you see your first hand out evil it can be. Great job on capturing what? It's truly like to be a dispatcher.
They shouldn't have allowed him to be interviewed because he was not experienced enough to explain the procedure of the calls. He still needed to learn some things.

Wow. This will really help me to understand what people want from Food Delivery calls. I'm Playing in Roblox Ultimate Driving Role Play as a Dispatcher. This will really help me understand what happens as a Dispatcher. Thanks, very nice story.
WOOOO, it's here! Is it weird I had a dream about calling 911 and then interviewing the dispatchers over the phone the night before this came out? Is that weird? xD Hey, the editing and music were superb on this one and the cinematography was insane! Keep it up!
PS, you spelled Tosin's name wrong in the description. It says, "Tosin Moronhunfola". You're calling your lead actor a MORON?! xD I looked it up, the N isn't in there. Just thought I'd point that out. :P
I’m currently 13 years old, and I got inspired to be 911 operator to help people and get people to safety, so when I’m older, I’m gonna be a 911 dispatcher, even though it will be a bit scary to listen. 😊
I heard this voice record in TH-cam at around 2008 already. However I cannot find it back. Anyone knows where we can find it back? The female voice in this video is too too calm compared with actual. The voice in actual is way way more affirmative.
911, the emergency we are trying to fix is... the bad things, happening today... People, are trying to be smart, but, sometimes, the bad things catch up, and it could hunt you, but... the only thing is... you tried, but, you can’t just leave, so, try to give it one more chance, it might help, and this IS, a mistake you are about to learn. Like the pizza undercover, you might assume it’s just a joke, but if, now.. you experienced it, the next caller, you’ll be immediate with them.
At first, I the pizza call was just to show they get all sorts of stupid calls, which I know they do (McDonalds out of nuggets etc) and that they'd get to a real call later. (Watch The Operator/short film that brought me here) anyway,... then when they reveal whats going on, it was great. Im ordering pizza if Im ever in danger.
I trust dispatch with my life Of course some of them are idiots that a have gotten people killed and injured hell one of them got me shot but it’s remarkable what they do for us and the public

M-A P still do it ?
can i dispatch at 18? and what is the process?
I know you wrote this over a year ago. How do you cope when you hear crazy things going on?

Very well done. As soon as she said she was ordering a pizza, I knew what it was referring to.
James Burton Same here
Just like from game android, 911 operator.
Yeah,same
Stumbled on this by accident, and I'm honestly so amazed. Great storytelling for a great group of thankless people!!

Beautiful. And the main actor's understated but heartfelt delivery is truly remarkable.

The most scary part for me is my humanity. Even the smallest mistake or oversight in human error can cause someone their life.

The dedication of most of these operators is heroic; very nice tribute to people who don't always get the thanks they deserve.
Beautifully executed. Sent chills down my spine. This is the kind of quality content that should be going viral.
Sometime I forget about everything C-Com has to deal with. I think all the services they dispatch could use this video as a reminder.
This is beautiful, from the very start I got chills!
They are truly heroes
Wish you would do more productions! This was fantastic!
As a firefighter y’all are our lifeline!

I wish they did a full length movie on this. I know there is a halle berry one but would love a nother twist on 911 dispatcher call
Great Suspense love it, keep it up!

Testing for this job in about an hour. Just got out of the army so I can handle high stress situations. This video made me realize what I’m getting in to. I hope I never get a call like although I will at some point. I just hope I can take care of the person on the other end.
This is like the game 911 operator
What a masterpiece
I've called the dispatcher (in a major city) for what i thought was my stolen car.
Like the pizza undercover, you might assume it’s just a joke, but if, now.. you experienced it, the next caller, you’ll be immediate with them.
i wanna do this. i wanna help ppl like this. i’m gonna do this
What happened all I heard was a voice of like getting punched in the stomach and line went dead

This is a nice film. The problem is, his acting is too good!

Hi,
Please, do you have a Chinese Sub for this video???
If you have please can I have the link.
I will need it as soon as possible.
I love this video.
I hope no predators see this video this would be horrible!🤦🏼♀️
What happened after the officer arrived he said police get on the ground you called the police and after that all I heard was ugh and then beeeeeeeep
His teeth are brighter than my future
