Well it was designed to be put together by a normal person at a factory. So it really shouldn't be that hard to take it apart and diagnose a problem as long as the basic understanding of how a diesel engine works is there.
Another great video Sam! It was fun to watch the boat project and your mangrove adventure. A tip for drilling holes in the deck with core. Drill the hole to the size you need it then install an allon wrench in your drill and use the short side to hollow out the core between the sheets of fiberglass. You may need to cut down the short side a bit to get it to work in smaller holes. Fill the void and you have a stronger better sealed hole through the boat. Hat tip to Dan from Sailing UMA for this method. Thanks for sharing!
Leaking at the seams gas tank. Garden tiller, check. Hydraulic splitter, check. Lawn mower, check. Guess I need to buy a soldering iron. Thanks, Sam. Love your vids.
Hi Sam. Really enjoy your videos. Your mix of content is exciting I.e. technical issues and solutions, real sailing techniques, good quality videos and straight forward commentary. Please continue to post as there appear to be many others like me who are reliving dreams/memories etc.. thanks Sam and stay safe.
It's better to have good holes in your boat than bad holes, if people drilled out holes and filled them with epoxy and use butyl tape under every piece of hardware, they would be well served.
That always irks me seeing prop marks gouged into manatees- used to see it frequently when I lived on the canal in Merritt island Fl on the central east coast. Live in Dallas now and I truly miss Florida.
That is right no glue will stick to that kind of plastic (propylene something, I think) and heat is the only way .Inside bladder would be tricky . Good job. I love the simplicity of your videos ,like real. Thanks for sharing
Really enjoy the videos and have learned a lot. I've been interested in sailing for years, and between you and Christian Williams, I was inspired to go ahead and buy a boat to get the party started. I look forward to following your future adventures. Cheers.
We used to repair plastic kayaks with a plastic welder. We would shave plastic off of a different spot to build up larger holes on the bottom of the boats.
Carburetors aren’t so bad. Use good fuel and put some inline fuel filters on. As you know it only takes a bit of debris to clog those jets and other small areas. I use non-ethanol in all my small engines so I get pretty good service from them. Love your videos and looks like you are having a blast. Thanks for sharing.
Great deal on that little dingy Sam! I had no clue that Nissan made outboard motors. Exploring with that little thing would be a blast! Great content as usual!
Love the boat project videos, right now I'm readying my Buccaneer 240 I purchased last fall. Weather permitting she will be in the water on her mooring this week Wednesday otherwise by Friday for sure. I'm doing a lot of the same work right now.
I'm envious of your windless, nice install! Have fun heading north up the coast, the way 2020 is going you sure as hell don't want to get rubbed out in "500 year" hurricane in Southern Florida! 😁
great channel and love your make do approach; however you may want to consider adding backing plate for the windlass mount in stead of washers.... wasn't clear if you used epoxy or actual varnish on the wood base; expoxy won't stand up to UV so you may want to paint it .....
C'mon Sam, keep us in the loop. Who's the girl in this video and the one who's with you on your current trip to the Everglades and Marathon? Inquiring minds want to know. 😀
Not really interested in someone's personal life. Simply because asking such questions is just plain creepy especially from a completely anonymous stranger that really has no right to know. Creepers got to Creep I guess.
@@freequest agree totally, single adults shouldn't need to explain who they spend time with. And these videos are really great. New Sub. and loving his content.
@@freequest or you know...someone who shares every part of his boat life has a guest and isnt showing them for whatever reason and its human nature to be curious. Not everyone is a creep.
Sam, I've been there and done that with those cheesy internal gas tanks on small outboards. Personally, I'd just toss that leaky tank & rig a hose fitting to the outboard & run it off the portable fuel tank you recently bought. Now you'll have dual purposes for that new tank!
Another great video 👍 I'm always impressed by how you repair and install all you different items. Really well done! One word of caution is not to post a video touching manatees. I'm sure you didn't 😉. But sometimes people are really crazy about that stuff. I've personally swam with manatees and if they don't want to be close to you they would just swim away faster that you can even with find on. Still awesome video 👌 and can't wait to follow you on your adventure 😁
I lived in Marathon for 7 years when we had our 32ft sloop. If by chance you happen to go ashore on Big Pine Key stop in at CocoNuts Bar n Grill. Tell the owner, Joe Britz that "Baravelli" says hello. Not sure what the current restrictions are in the keys but hoping they are getting back to ab-normal. Lol
Eh ! Sam is there still a persistent tick from engine ?? Dude.. ya gotta put a backing plate underneath windless also. This will even out stress load a bolt down points..
You videos are entertaining and informative. I for one like to see you dig into a project and make it happen. PS it always makes for a better video if there is a good looking woman in a bikini.
Just got my insurance from Farm bureau and it was only a $20/yr difference from $100k liability and $2k med pay to $1mil liability and $10k med pay. I definitely went with the $1 million liability and $10 k med pay!
Thanks Sam. Another great vlog. The little dinghy looked to be a lot of fun! Are you going to give it a name? Deirdre the dinghy maybe. More holes in your boat than a Swiss Cheese. :-)
Everything is on the Internet nowadays, especially TH-cam. Just search and you’ll find someone has put it online. Even found a lady had put a video up showing how to hand wash dishes. That’s when I realised the resource the internet had become. Of course, use info with discretion, there’s as much useful info as there is “spam”. Check several sources before proceeding, and common sense.
Hello Sam. Fantastic, your new video, you are a DIY man. one of the doubts I have for a long journey is the issue of garbage. On your trip from the American continent to Hawaii, how did you solve the garbage issue? Did you throw organic into the sea, plastic and cardboard from food products, stored until you reach a port? Thank you very much, greetings from Spain.
Try to get rid of as much packaging as possible before hand. Organic, paper and metal goes overboard leaving only a bag of plastic to dispose of in port.
Did you ever make it through the white sandy beaches of the Florida Panhandle? Just curious... Didn’t want to see you miss a good place, before you went up the East coast
Great to watch your DIY boat work Sam, and I'm sure you know, but putting blue tape under the board before epoxy will avoid the drips and having to sand off later....Do you have a house on a canal or just lucky? I think it's time for introductions and the lovely lady....
Not too long ago I got a plastic welding kit for my RC cars I really like a lot it works great you can fix all kinds of stuff. Oh yeah looking at the other comments I forgot to ask who's the girl !!!
Sam truly is the Bob Ross of sailing
I love how fearless you are! Leaky motor? No problem, let's tear it apart and see what's going on!

Fearless you say? Sailing an23-foot sailboat from LA to Hawaii is fearless. 👍😂

Nicely done cleaning out that carb. That 3.5 two stroke is a good engine. Light, and powerful enough to get you there.
Sam, you can also use similar plastic of another bottle, can, tray, etc and melt it over the seams to beef up the tank (or even the dinghy paddles).
It's better to have good holes in your boat than bad holes, if people drilled out holes and filled them with epoxy and use butyl tape under every piece of hardware, they would be well served.
that yacht will be a weapon when you are finished with it, great work legend, from a viewer on Hamilton island Whitsundays Australia
You need to rename your boat to “Mcgyver”. Amazing video - solves the tough problems and gets the girl in a bikini!
That always irks me seeing prop marks gouged into manatees- used to see it frequently when I lived on the canal in Merritt island Fl on the central east coast. Live in Dallas now and I truly miss Florida.
Better to use the oars when manatees are nearby!
Sam, Your sailing channel is my favorite.
Loved the person asking about insurance @6:20. Add polyethylene plastic welding to the video title! That was awesome. 🤓

Wow I miss your vids for a couple months and so much has happened! Nice!! Time to binge watch some sailing!!
Another great video mate. G'day from Sydney, Australia...if you ever wanted a guy on your boat that could make anything work then Sam is your man.

You should get some steel-toed flip flops for construction work. Safety first!

Hell of a deal on the new dinghy

melt the plastic to seal, never thought of that. all fun thanks
GREAT VIDEO SAM. MAKES ME WANT TO GET OUTSIDE AND WORK ON SOMETHING, THANKS.
Some great projects! You are going to have to raise the waterline to acommodate the extra weight!

I wonder if the boat on it' side has a missing anchor winch that the owner sold on Craigslist.

Only one thing missing. You need to ask for a captain's hat for you birthday. Thank for you the videos.
Is there a bolt head on the windlass you could put a large battery powered drill on when you need speed?
You videos are entertaining and informative. I for one like to see you dig into a project and

Oh boy, another episode of "Sam drills more holes in his poor boat than Swiss cheese"!

I feel like you can use one of the oars as a lever for the dingy motor
Love the vids man, keep posting :)
Great job Sam really enjoy your videos
Glad you like them!
Sam, if the lady is going with you, and I hope she does, best to use "we" instead of "I". Heehee. Good stuff dude.
Hi there... unless I couldn't see it can I suggest you use the kill cord on the dinghy. Cheers
How did you become so knowledgeable on boat repair/maintenance? Would very much like to have a fraction of your skill set

Drive the outboard with your left hand to keep from getting tennis elbow.
Nice Job Sam...

I’m starting to notice the pattern of the one foot up, using a saw next to a barefoot or flip flop. That’s something I would do 🤣
13:05 The white marks on the back of the manatee are propeller scars.
Geez what is your monthly epoxy budget
Keep it up!

$200 is a wicked deal....Who's the lovely 1st mate you have aboard?
These are good fun and useful! Is your deck core generally in good condition, is it ply or balsa?
Yes, it is! Hope to keep it that way. ply.
hey Sam, what epoxy will you use to fill holes on the boat? I have a similar project coming up
Isn't the windlass a lil "oversized" too?
Great video!
I bet you can find a new replacement gas tank on ebay. If it cracked once, most likely it will do it again.
That manatee had a strike mark on its back from a propeller 😩
I loved the video, nice work. Stay safe ;O)
Carb cleaner back splashing to the eyes stopped everything once. I was alone and did find the hose with my eyes closed... just mentioning it.
been there too...
Poor manatee. Those shrouded props should be mandatory in the Everglades.
Do those iguanas actually swim?😂
How's the bean bag working out?
Its awesome!!!

Hi Sam!
Fun!
Not too long ago I got a plastic welding kit for my RC cars I really like a lot it works great you can fix all kinds of stuff. Oh yeah looking at the other comments I forgot to ask who's the girl !!!
Forgot the security cord dude.
Try sealing the gas tank with Flex Seal!
get some flexseal and spray the dingy tank to seal it!
Tut tut tut, not wearing your kill cord
Ah love bug season, one of the things I don't from living in FL.
how much do you get per applaud?
Sam finds a new babe... and puts her right to work! (13:27) ...LOL... Sam the Man!
endless modifications
Is she your girlfriend Sam ?
Not your beeswax.
What difference does it make 🤔.?
