You prolly dont care but does any of you know a way to get back into an Instagram account? I somehow lost my account password. I love any assistance you can offer me!
@Jesiah Nickolas I really appreciate your reply. I got to the site thru google and im waiting for the hacking stuff now. Looks like it's gonna take quite some time so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
Sam. Great to watch you. Please do not compromise on lung protection. I see dust all over your face and hair and hope you’re not breathing toxic dust. Minimal exposure is unhealthy. A caring fan.
Nice motor mount Sam. You might consider making a leash for the engine in case the mount breaks. Also maybe sew up a back pack for the battery to help you transport it when you are moving it on shore and maybe as a means to help secure it when you live it unattended. Thanks for sharing!
Do you have folks in the u.k who your going to visit after the trip across the pond.your an enthusiastic fella there may be a way to charge the battery of you.good sailing and fair winds sir.
Great video. Love all the little projects you do and with how many different tech you experiment. Always getting some efficient and practical solution in the end. Perfect is the enemy of good.
Every time you stretch your legs, learning new skills. The following project are much higher quality. It has been cool watching you develop your builder skills. Well done I am enjoying the content thanks for taking us along
Add a couple struts from the vertical plate on the motor mount going forward to the side tubes, it’ll give you a lot better stability and ability to run a bigger motor if you choose to in the future.
so that battery SOC display is a standard interface, that is Usually pretty accurate as long as it was calibrated with the supplied shunt. It is usually NOT based on voltage (which would be horrible for LIFEPO4 chemistry). There is one one to test it though.
Looks like a good solution. Idk what you have to secure that battery but you might want to glue some type of velcro tiedowns in for that. Leapfrogging over a wave might let it go for a swim! Is that dingy spray paintable ? Match it up to your vessel maybe? Very cool video!
You should get a battery box to keep the salt water off of the battery. Be sure to clean off the top of your battery now. You will have a weak short going across the salt on top of your battery
If you haven't watched "Building the Rutan Composites - by Ferde Grofe" TH-cam series, I recommend it... Lots of good ideas for how to accomplish various structures with foam and fiberglass. It's out of date in some ways, but still worth watching!
So good! Gonna love watching your adventure, but also a little sad sad to be missing shop content. Speaking of the shop - what’re you gonna do with the shop? Rent it out as a DIY boat shop?
I think I have the same motor newport kayak? It's been super reliable but the case rusts and the flipper handle broke on mine. Been thinking if an anode would help on the next one. Mount looks good
If you put a stick, or PVC pipe (with roundy end caps) on the floor of the dinghy, and a "throwable device" to sit on on top of the PVC pipe, it wll act like a keel and the dinghy will track straighter. This may be mire important on windy days The Coast Guard makes you have a whistle life jacket and throwable device, but the only thing you really need, they dont make you have, and that us an anchor. Never get on a boat without an anchor system that works
You should ask the FlexPaint company to sponsor you. It seems that they have instant patches. A friend used when in an emergency with a crack on their kayak. It was instant. I keep thinking it would be a good thing to have in the Life-raft or a Dinghy. As always, another informative video. :)
Where r u located right now ? I’m in St Simons Island Georgia...just bought a mono and don’t know much about sailing. If you are ever passing thru hit me up ! The island is beautiful and I will show you around !
I thought lifepo4 batteries couldn't be used with electric trolling motors. Something about the voltage being too high? Is that not true? I have a 36lb thrust watersnake.
Hey Sam I have been watching you since you sailed your 24ranger to hawaii my question is do you think my laguna33 would mAke the trip from washington to kawii
Your videos are good. Audio needs a little work. Levels all over the place. And your speech tends to mumble. Sorry for the unsolicited critique. Lol. Thanks for great content. Love your adventure and living vicariously through you. Cute dingy.
@@samholmessailing ... worth looking at. mines about 10ft, folds flat looks like a surfboard and stowed on the outside of the rails so it doesnt use up deck space. rows well too :)
hey heads up ..napa sells this liquid for sealing tyres from the inside ..u just pour a bottle inside through the air fill then blow it up and throw it around flipping it over and over around where the holes are and its seals from the inside out :)
Everything You do is so interesting! From sewing sails, to fabricating a new hard dodger. The fiberglass mount came out awesome. Good work as always.

The world needs a Mike Patey and Sam Holmes Collab! Thumbs up if you agree...
Looks like a pretty cool dingy and motor mount. That's a good workshop, let's you experiment with alot of things.

Hey Sam. We love how you just press on forward with projects, sailing to Hawaii, etc. Your can-do attitude is very inspiring. Keep on!
Nice setup. I went with a 36 volt trolling motor, and run it off of 36v electric bike batteries.
Great video. I love all of your projects. Very creative. Feel free to introduce all of your helpers.
Excited to watch. Hope you're well, Sam!

How cool is that I was surprised how well it went
Is that the Achilles LT 2 (if so what year?) with a Newport Vessels 24” short shaft motor?.
I had to laugh seeing you covered head to toe in DUST! Just don't inhale any of that stuff! :-)
What works well for you is the best!

That would be a good addition if i added a more powerful motor

Awesome dinghy.
That did turn out awesome! I'm getting good results from my Newport Vessels trolling motor as well, so good pick!
Best videos on TH-cam! Thanks Sam!
You should interview your volunteers! Inquiring minds want to know!
Hi Sam , I had a red chillies / with a black rub rail once . Nobody would let it near their boat , what a mess . The shop is looking awesome !

May want to consider a carbon fiber box for the bow of the dingy to hold the battery in place and keep it dry. Just saying,
I am loving the Pornstache! seriously that carbon construction was really cool to see. Still love how you keep it super simple.
3:19 60 year old Sam from the future beams in to help out.
Can you link that LifePo4 battery? Sounds like you got it for a decent price. Enjoyed the video!
I found it on aliexpress. 60ah lifepo4 in a case

Nice job on that motor mount. Looks like it came out great.
box for battery same as motor mount water proof and flot

He's just testing it you idiot.
Cool idea. I have a little anchor for this dinghy too!
Have you tried a Porta-Bote, folding dinghy? It's straps to the stanchions and out of the way.

Did you get the idea from Sven Yrvind? What is the compound you used in the inside corners? Like 😎🙏
Are the wire connections are the battery water proof? Seems like a toaster bath waiting to happen.

Sam, what great work! As usual! ❤️
Have you used Koosa boaed for any of your projects?
Seams like your doing great 👍 keep up the good work much love from Iowa!!
Can you post the link for the battery you bought? Thank you!!
Give us a catch up after your surgery please. 🙂

How much heavier or the bigger OARS than the old Oars?
Hey Sam, could you please link the electric motor and battery you're using? Looking for secondary propulsion for my Coronado 15. Thanks!
Great video! I am interested in how the motor mount attaches to the raft. It looks like it was made for it?
Your solo trip is exciting! Do you have any concerns or worries about the trip? Rob
Sam. Could you pop over here. I need help with my cooker hood which needs fixing. (Just asking as you seem so practical with anything. )
run a tool battery backup in the dinghy:)
Nice 👍
G flex is the shit.
Great video!!
Good job Sam. However I couldn't trust that patch as a life saving device. Maybe a backup. So have you set a departure date?
I think he said June 1 in a previous video.
Sam, what brand of electric motor is that on your dingy? I'm thinking about getting one for my kayak.
@sam Holmes sailing Hey Sam, I have a old inflatable that uses that same mount. I've been looking for one or some good dimensions s I can fab one up.
Sam could you give some information on your dingy? Im looking for one for a 27 ft sailboat. Thanks
Its an achilles lt-2
Nice one Sam, great weight saving 👍 looks like u were getting along at a decent speed, what size is the electric?
Nice mod you made there Sam.
Nice video! Should be easier to inflate the dinghy with the smaller size without using an air compressor.
What matters is that it works for you. I thought that dinghy was fine.
How long did the repair with g flex last
Hey Sam I have been watching you since you sailed your 24ranger to hawaii my question is do you think my laguna33 would mAke the trip from washington to kawii
good stuff!
when you tripped while weighing the mounts, it jumpscared me :( nice work on the glassing tho
Honestly, I though it would crush like a wafer vs wood.
Idk about inflatables vs just plain jon boats & batterys.
Jon boat you just JB weld & go.
You clearly have ZERO clue about sailing. Almost all dinghys are inflatables.
i'm on budget too. i might try to buy a new dinghy but......
Where did you find the dinghy?
He traded Olivia for it.
Are you making a box for the battery? Nice job
No I ordered this lifepo4 battery built into a waterproof box with a handle. Its very portable for charging.

Have you ever thought of going electric with the CD?
what happened to the gas motor?
I sold it. Too powerful for this little boat.

Thats one that I have not tried

Wow, you look like your dad in those glasses!
Won’t the epoxy melt the foam?
I think it is only polyester resin that melts the foam

Good work my sailing friend, very creative. You ready to go to sea yet? :>)
two words, flex seal... lol
Thats one dingy dinghy
Sam we all love you, but it’s not “The ultimate dingy”!
Very interesting, but lots of work for 3 pounds. I guess all your other jobs are now completed.
How's the dinghy working without a solid bottom plate?
It works fine without it
I think you could build a nuke!
Engine mount looking like 😑
First!
Wear a mask next time
Just go sailing dude. You are not even average about the resto stuff. There will be many to commend you, but reality is that you are sub.
Just go watch a sailing video dude. It’s free and no one is making you watch. A lot of people like to watch his projects, not looking for perfection.
