    The lyrics are the 11th and 5th spell Odin speaks of in the Havamal. They are protective magic.
    Two quotes:
    "Whole to the field of fight,
    whole from the field of fight and whole they come thence home"
    "If I see from afar
    an arrow fly 'gainst the folk; It flies not so swift that I stop it not"
    While the sorceress speaks the protective magic, the warriors form a protective circle around her.
    In a Heilung performance, which they call a ritual, everything is done with a purpose and well thought out.

      I would argue from the different translations, most of them agree that it is not the 5th but the 15th charm and it is protection in battle. some say the 9th or the 16th. Most say15th.

    This performance is even more impressive as it was their very first time performing.
    I was lucky enough to to catch them when they came to the states. It was one of the best shows I have ever gone to. The atmosphere was absolutely amazing.

    If you listen carefully you can hear Maria Franz sing "Heilir hildar til, heilir hildi fra, koma þeir heilir hvaðan." This means Healthy to battle! Healthy from battle!
    Whence they come healthy, greet them!. And Old Norse saying attributed to the god Odin.

    The band comments: “Heilung, in collaboration with Roadburn, proudly presents ‘Othan!’ This is one of the compositions that, in a Heilung context, might appear as a relaxed song. Nevertheless, it contains ancient combat protection spells and Odin, the highest northern god, appears as the lord of war.
    “The first part is a combination of spells from bracteates, which is very hard to grasp or translate. These pendants or coins were produced mostly during the migration period up until the 7th century AD in northern Europe. They were mostly made from Roman gold, which the Germanic tribes received as peace money. The inscriptions are still discussed controversially amongst rune researchers. Some clues that hint towards the words leek, ale or a cuckoo can be traced, but most of the time it seems to be very difficult to grasp a meaningful sense in the inscriptions.
    “Although the High One enjoys war, he also indulges in poetry. ‘Othan’ therefore has a second part where the white mistress of incantations recites the words that the High One gave to man: A spell sung under the shields to bless them and protect the warriors (Hávámal, stanza 156). In the third part the mood gets darker and we have now reached the point of an active combat spell. The power to stop an arrow in its flight is invoked (Hávamál stanza 150).
    “After that the name of the highest Nordic god is repeated in a wolfish, barking mantra, partly to transport the feeling, that the ancient Nordic warrior groups often perceived themselves as animal packs. This is for example described by Ibrahim Ibn Yaqub, a 10th century traveller and merchant, who writes that the people of Hedeby were singing in a barking manner.'”

      Great explenation, I would only add a small remark. Othan (Odin, Wõden, Wuodan etc.) is not just norse god, it is a pagan god of more or less all germanic people, including Dutch, Germans and old English, as Othan / Odin /Wuotan was a proto-germanic god.

      The Hariuha chant was broken down by a Norse linguist here on YT. He said the first part Hariuha, was the introduction "I am the warrior terror" and the rest was invoking various magic, including cuckoo magic, which he thought was more related to Tyr than Odin.
      Hariuha/I am the warrior terror, lapu/invocation, lauker/magic of lauker, gakar alu/cuckoo magic, Ole lule/the strong beer - gathering of the village, lauker/magic of lauker. So roughly: "I , the fearsome warrior, invoke the magic of lauker through song, and strong drink as i gather with my clan for the ceremony" (some of this I filled in myself with a little research.)
      Lule might refer to a town, like Lulea, or a river Lule, or (a long shot) is a loan word in Albanian from Greek which means flower (herb?) but that is kind of remote. Nothing on the web defines Lule/Lulea for it's original meaning besides that it refers to a town and a river, and the Lule Sami. Weaksauce internet. Weaksauce.

    To the fight my long-loved friends;
    I sing in the shields,
    and in strength they go
    Whole to the field of fight,
    Whole from the field of fight,
    And whole they come thence home.
    A fifth I know,
    If I see from afar
    An arrow fly 'gainst the folk;
    It flies not so swift
    That I stop it not,
    If ever my eyes behold it.

    Othan contains several ancient combat protection spells and words of Odin, god of the north and lord of poetry and war. The first part of the song is a combination of spells found in various bracteates. These bracts were produced mainly during the migration period until the 19th century AD. in northwestern Europe. They were generally made of Roman gold, which the Germanic tribes had received as money in times of peace. Although Odin enjoys war, he also takes pleasure in poetry.
    Othan has a second part where the white owner of the enchantments recites the words that Odin gave the man: a spell chanted under the shields to bless them and protect the warriors. (Hávámal, stanza 156)
    The third part is darker, since in it a spell is invoked for active combat that can have the power to stop an arrow in its flight. (Hávamál stanza 150)
    After that the name of the highest Norse god is repeated in a wolf, barking mantra, in part to convey the feeling that ancient Norse warrior groups were often perceived as herds of animals. This for example is described by Ibrahim Ibn Yaqub al-Tartushi, a traveler and merchant of the 19th century, who writes that the people of Hedeby sang in a barking manner.
    An eleventh I know,
    if needs I must lead
    To the fight my long-loved friends;
    I sing in the shields,
