Your shout out to IC Weld was why i just subbed. Just ventured out on my own and been doing what both you guys do all my life for everyone else to make money off of is why i started my own business.
A cut and weld expert does cut and weld. I would have put the old pin in just the bent ear sleeve and the stick and bent the ear back by manipulating the bucket against the ground. If it can be bent into a bad position, it can be bent back into position until a new pin fits. This likely got bent because the pin slipped out of the other ear. Isaac is great. IC Weld. Amazing work. Very humble as he finds better solutions and corrects himself on video.
Thank you for taking the time to share with us your knowledge and skill. We're lucky to have you as a public resource to learn from. I'm sure there might be a better welder out there than folks like you and Issac, but few are as kind and generous with sharing their knowledge. Wishing you great success and rich rewards in the very near future.
I swear I could see that flange move three times when you were heating it. It may not be the way everyone would do it but it was a fantastic job. Like you said in the beginning that there is a thousand ways to do that and I would have done it albeit with an arc gouge probably. Thank you for filming that. Oh, yea Isaac is awesome!
Hey Ethan - I am a new subscriber and I absolutely love your videos!!! Only one problem I have with them - there aren't enough of them!!! I am a retired mechanical engineer and I have learned a lot from watching you work and your tips and tricks. You have tremendous skills and abilities and a terrific demeanor and personality. You would make a great engineer and in many ways you are one. If you are able to - would sure love seeing so many more videos. I subscribe to other channels but I rate yours as one of the very best for sure! Thanks for sharing - and share all you want! I will be anxiously waiting!
Very nice repair, yes I also watch I C Weld, I've done a lot of similar repairs over 43 years of welding, but I enjoy watching all your videos, Im always looking to learn new ideas, you sir are a master craftsman, thanks for posting it.
Thats getting it done sir! One thing I admire about your channel, is that you really do a good job of putting your own skills, tools, and equipment to use to get the job done in a way you are most comfortable with. as always lots of different ways to do a job like that, and i am sure you will hear from many about the "proper" way lol. but when your in the field, you just make it happen the best way you can.
Thank you very much for this video. I did marine welding in 1990s in Australia. Warms my heart to be with some top welding. Regards from Bundaberg Qld.
Thanks for the videos. I love watching them. Hope you can do more. You do great work with a few tools. I watch other videos & everything is "who has the most tools." You have what you need, and do more with what you have than most who have a lot more to work with. Kudos! BTW: I also watch ICWELD. Fantastic channel. The guy's a wizard.
Enjoy? I do this in Minnesota. Well for 2 or 3 more years. I had a bucket bent like that . The operator was using the side of the bucket to backfill a trench. Nice repair.
No matter how far we advance in the future, we still need the old ways for permanent fixes. Like you said, a thousand ways to skin a cat. I like the result and not sure I would of tackled it the same way but your liquid steel filled the gap just fine and with air needles made it super strong. No tearing that eye out. I have seen it done on bigger stuff... I will check out your friend... good video, Might get some time and kylon the tool truck enough that she hides her age better. I seen where it came from and you have done so good.
Just came across you channel, subbed straight away. Like the way you explain things. Always enjoy watching this kind of work and I loved the Texas tig. Thanks
Pressure and heat shrinkage would be the easy way . A jack or heavy prop and tapered wedge then a heat band roughly where your welding would move it in 20 mins , faster if your allowed to quench . Spent half my life building heavy fabrications for offshore and half of that time straightening after welders did their stuff .
IC WELD is awesome! I also like chuckee009. I think that's the right channel name. Anyway he's down in texas and always giving insight on welding. Thanks for the excellent video!
I enjoy watching you fix big stuff like this..Good to see the boom truck in action. It is a nice old rig that will help you make more money on doing the big heavy stuff
I know this video posted a while ago but it's the first one I've seen from you and I was very impressed you do fine work sir I am now subscriber and look forward to more videos from you thank you
If you want to eliminate sideways load swing while using a crane, swing the boom in the direction the load is swinging but only go so far as you're above the load, then as it swings back, swing the boom over the load again, keep going until the load is under control.
By the way… I found a awesome old welder to restore!!! It’s a …national cylinder gas co. Sure arc 150s portable wheelbarrow welder. Has a onan p243 2cyl gas engine and it’s 150amp dc welder. It’s AWSOME!!!! Old welder from 1953!!!! Waiting on a connecting rod for it to arrive
C'mon!! Look at those stack o' dimes!! Humble is nice but you did great! Just wish I could've sent you a bunch of boxes of 1/2" 7018. Got about 8 boxes from a friend who got a pallet from ESAB and I can't use them in my shop. Blessings friend!
Recommend using a fire blanket on that pin protecting it from spatter, for some reason these new pins attract spatter and can cause problems getting it to move in and out.
Great job!! But just some friendly advise. I think your welding that a bit too hot... its one thing to have enough amperage to get good penatration on heavy metal, it's another to be running so hot your blowing your weld out the bottom. By "Ving" the metal out you ensured good penatration as you build up welds and that is great, however 7018 welding rod has a much higher tensile strength and would have made that weld much stronger...
Oh what trying times are these when excavation companies bring a bent ear to someone to repair without heating it and and using the boom arm as a hammer first!
I saw your bracing and I brace as well.....but whenever I am welding on ears on both sides.....as plenty of bracing....the pins get tight and have to be beat out with a hammer...any thoughts or suggestions are welcomed.
I’ve ran into that too. I would like to say that spreading the heat around will help, but sometimes it doesn’t. There have been a couple of times that I’ve had to back gouge the leaning side and pull it back straight by welding. There is no tried and true method just weld a little while. Check things if they don’t look right, you may have to make adjustments.
The fact that the bucket is in for repair, is testament to the poor operator(poor lube-obvious by flange/link dryness and pin/retainer maintenance) - the ear bent because the pin worked loose, and by side slewing to clear brush it bent the lug! Any operator worth his/her salt could have stressed the ear back into alignment ON the 360!. Failing that heat, temporary stays/dogs for recationary forces and a hydraulic power pack/bottle jack and job done. Keep safe and well.
Enjoyed watching this project. Do you use the umbrella to keep the sun out of your helmet so you can see the weld better? I have that problem out here in the high desert of Colorado.
You need super singles on your 2 ton. I saw another welding channel with a truck similar to yours running super singles and made that truck look mean. I bet you could get a deal on military take offs.
Your shout out to IC Weld was why i just subbed. Just ventured out on my own and been doing what both you guys do all my life for everyone else to make money off of is why i started my own business.

Wow. I was skeptical but you drove it home!!! That root was brutal... never saw that before. Looked beautiful in the end. Well done!
*Sir, it's been years since I stick welded but watching your skills makes me want to start again. Thank you.*

I C Weld is the king of the oxy torch. Love his channel. You’re no slouch either! That crane is a beast.
Isaac the king !
That guy can cut a straight line free hand better than I can using a straight edge .
Amen, my favorite two channels IC and Classic Work
Nice video. Nice of you to recommend IC Weld. You're pretty good yourself!
It’s amazing what you can get done with an oxy acetylene torch. It’s been around for 100 years, but is still as useful as ever!
I call it my adjustable wrench, been a welder for over 30 years unfortunately
I C Weld is a good channel. Learned a thing or two watching him.
I c welds
I'm a machinist by trade & like seeing other skilled craftsman in their trade. It makes me feel to be an American. That was good work there.👍👍👍
Good to see more from you. Missed you while you gone for awhile. Stick around, we all enjoy it.

That stack of beads looked fantastic. Love this channel
Funny - Your video likely appeared in my feed because I’m a watcher of IC Weld! You’re right - the guy is amazing.

I love your stuff, Isaac is a surgeon with a torch!!!! Awesome guy!
I actually just subscribed to IC yesterday. Fantastic at work. Great job on the bucket repair 👍
IC WELD is an awesome welder you're right. Liked the vid well done mate.
Great video. Final product speaks for itself. Make a plan, work the plan, and the net result is nothing short of impressive. Nicely done!
Thank you very much for this video. I did marine welding in 1990s in Australia. Warms my heart to be with some top welding. Regards from Bundaberg Qld.
Amazing work and a true master. Great to watch. Nice video editing skills as well. Thank you for sharing your work. Stay safe out there!

It’s good to have you back , been missing your videos they are informative and interesting too Thank You
I wouldn't have thought to use this method but I'll definitely be keeping it in the back of my mind now. Thanks for sharing.
Nice looking work and beads. Nice comment about Issac @ ICWeld as well as true, Thanks
Victor torches and Lincoln welders, a winning combination!
Just came across you channel, subbed straight away. Like the way you explain things. Always enjoy watching this kind of work and I loved the Texas tig. Thanks
Awesome work. It's good to see professionals recommend other professionals at what they do best. more videos sir!. God Bless.
good video man. Seems like I've seen a big radial drill hanging off the side to that truck.
Yes sir sure did. Down in sulligent Alabama.
Always great to see your work...
You did a nice job loosening up that pin.
love your approach and quality work...thanks for making my day...cheers, Paul

Great job my friend keep safe
Regards
Steve UK London
keep em coming bro, i never seen that texas tig.....good stuff!!
That crane is ideal for your type of work.I remember when you got it first.
If you want to eliminate sideways load swing while using a crane, swing the boom in the direction the load is swinging but only go so far as you're above the load, then as it swings back, swing the boom over the load again, keep going until the load is under control.

Nice find I've never seen one like that. I'm sure it will be a cool project for sure.

Well done good JOB from south Africa
New subscriber here! Good stuff. Thanks.
Thanks for the video, great tips, great work
IC Weld probably led me here LOL
Oh what trying times are these when excavation companies bring a bent ear to someone to repair without heating it and and using the boom arm as a hammer first!

Beautifully done!!!!

No cleaning between passes?
Amazing work!
YOU DID A FINE JOB 👍👍 👍👍
could tacked on a run off tab and some brass too stackes way quicker
Amazing how Good that pin fit 🙌 great job.. God bless you also.
Man that was a nice bucket except for the one ear not alot of patching i would of used a portapower and heat now thay have a usable hacked up bucket.
I would like to see you remove a bend and twist with a portapower.
The fact that the bucket is in for repair, is testament to the poor operator(poor lube-obvious by flange/link dryness and pin/retainer maintenance) - the ear bent because the pin worked loose, and by side slewing to clear brush it bent the lug! very good job fella next time protect shaft while welding
Give yourself some credit, thanks for saying God bless.
great video!!! keep them comin
nice job on the repair!!!!
Enjoyed watching this project. Do you use the umbrella to keep the sun out of your helmet so you can see the weld better? I have that problem out here in the high desert of Colorado.
That’s right. It’s tough to see with the sun looking at ya.
Hey classic work! What kind of rod were you using at around 17:54? Keep up the good work.
That was a 1/8” 6010 5p+ pipe liner rod.
what wheight is your crane truck?
Great video well done
Thanks. About 27,000 lbs
Is your boom cable twisted up or something? Everytime you picked the bucket up it spins like a merry go round. Nice fix, lot's of welding.
I’m not sure what was going on. Anytime you put a heavish load on it. It twists. I’m not sure what’s going on but I do need to fix that.
It's the twist coming out of the cable under load. If your swivel hook is working, it shouldn't be that bad. Maybe your swivel needs to be greased?
Not afraid to manhandle that electrode.
That looks much easier than it is trust me
Nice video keep them coming
what was your fee for this kind of job? Really nice repair.
Another way is to cut the center of your v and double bevel to even out the heat and pull on the ear and more weld and strength
brilliant vid man
Nice work sir.. I enjoy all your videos and I have learned a thing or two... Thanks again for all your efforts.
Excellent work
What torch are you using
Nice. Thanks for the videos.

You need super singles on your 2 ton. I saw another welding channel with a truck similar to yours running super singles and made that truck look mean. I bet you could get a deal on military take offs.
What's the weather like where you're at
Well right now it’s been raining for 2 days getting colder everyday. About 45F now.
What do you charge for a job like that?
Like the NAPA helmet.
