There are a lot of commenters saying ridiculous things here in the comments! Women You know when it’s time to tell your uterus thank you for all you did but it’s time for us to depart. Don’t let idiot people talk and talk crap. The uterus is meant to house a baby in the reproductive years. Things go wrong and it has to come out. Do it! I had a friend who died from uterine cancer. She said as she was in hospice ‘this hurts like hell’ I wish she would have had her hysterectomy before that all happened to her. Others have their uterus falling literally out of them. They can’t keep it fir obvious reasons! I’ve found No information that getting a hysterectomy causes another disease. Live a happy healthy life get on bio identical hormones Not synthetic hormones. Unfortunately we all get sick in one or more parts of our lives. I wish everyone a healthy and a long life no matter what path you chose.

Thank you for the information doctor...its really helpful. What about the pain one feels after removal of everything like uterus, tubes, ovaries, lymph nodes....pain goes from back to right hip...feeling slight pain sometime on the abdomen.

Some good information, however I gave a thumbs down because you skirted around the question about osteoporosis and heart health. Also nothing was mentioned about bladder, vaginal or bowel prolapse. I just went through a full abdominal hysterectomy because I had a very large cyst on one ovary which turned out to be benign even though my CA 125 was 47, slightly above the 35 marker. Even though I was more than 5 years post menopause I had SEVERE menopause symptoms. My first menopause was a breeze. I am upset at myself for not insisting on less invasive surgery and agreed to the hysterectomy my doctor recommended. I had no other symptoms and have not found any information supporting hysterectomy for an ovarian cyst. I don't believe I signed an informed consent, yet I'm the one who has to live with the decision and the bill that will take me 12 years to pay off what my insurance didn't pay.

MJ F I had a partial hysterectomy 15 months ago the same day of my csection, my docter didnt give me any information of side effects or health issues at the long term, the only thing he told me was , I was no longer going to have periods and that was it.

They found out I have a big mass on top of my uterus and are doing surgery next week. Im through menopause and am 51 yrs old. I talked with my Dr about the prolapse issues because a friend told me about her mom. He said he will take care of that when in there. They have to do the c-section cut in case it has cancer inside the mass . Im scared still about having it done

    • @mjf3570

@@debconness7718 In the meantime PLEASE get your Iodine level checked. You MUST INSIST they do it because they will talk you out of it. Sometimes they wait for the prolapse issue to see how your internal organs settle, unless he just meant where he re-attaches your vagina cuff. Also do strengthening exercises, careful sit-ups and the like. Belly strong will help recovery. Did they do an Ultrasound? Please read it carefully to see if any solid mass or blood flow. If just fluid, may not be so bad. Cysts are normal but don't always go away, that's where the Iodine helps. Some doctors recommend Probiotics before and after. See what he says.

I'm 58 & have been through menopause for 10 years and this June I started bleeding & cramps I went to my Dr then to my gyn had a pap done a vaginal scan & and a biopsy done the biopsy results well turned out my results came back with there wasn't enough to get an accurate reading but my vaginal scan came back with thickening in the endometrium, And I have a lot of scar tissue to do years ago I was bleeding very heavy during my period large blood clots so my gyn did a procedure it was called vaginal freezing it sounds crazy but it worked! But now all these years later this problem started & also had a C-section when I was 30 that also causes scar tissue my Gyn is going to remove my whole uterus & scar tissue as well I believe he's doing laproscopy my surgery date is Oct 24th yes I'm nervous will I have pain after?

Thank you for the helpful information. Due to having uterine cancer, grade 1, I'll be having a hysterectomy in three weeks time. It seems that many women have ovaries and fallopian tubes removed at the same time. Yet, I have found some doctors are questioning the merit of such conventional wisdom. They suggest that for women with a family history of heart disease and stroke, it would be better to retain the ovaries, especially as ovarian cancer is rare, albeit difficult to diagnose. Please, Dr. Wooley, would you be kind enough to elaborate on this?
