- All of the digital productivity apps and software I am using as a PhD student
Hi PhD Students! Sunday is always my favourite day to do some planning and get organised for the week ahead. As many of you may know, I do a lot of on-paper planning. However, I do use some digital tools and have been asked to talk about the essential software for planning / productivity apps to stay organised. In this video I talk about the importance of having dedicated tools for reference manager, thesis writing, storage, taking notes, scheduling, and project management -- and I talk about the tools I use for each of those. Whether you are considering a PhD, in the early stages or the late stages I hope you will find something useful, and please comment what tools you think are the best for planning, organisation, and being productive.

Thank you for the video. Very useful!
Pipit Novita glad that you think so !
I need the video on 4 year planning.
You've been a motivation
I have made it already so definitely check it out! :)
Thanks so much I have already started my PhD and this is really useful :)
Glad it was helpful! Thanks so much for commenting.
I really love u and ur content. Keep it up.
Its good video and good insights about productivity tools. Keep posting. Thank you
Thank you, I will!
Thanks for sharing these nice tips, I also use an app OFF-TIME to block applications and it's really nice to prevent you opening social media apps that you choose during your working.
Ooh that's a great suggestion! Thanks Maryam
Notion for note taking and general organization and researcher app for getting new papers ASAP
I've been meaning to try Notion... it seems useful! Thanks!
Thanks Again Ciara for your wonderful tips. Can you make a video on time management and how to stay motivated all the time?
Manisha Arora Bhatia sure!!! I plan to do a day in the life this week that is sort of like an updated daily routine - hopefully that will give some insight into the time management. As well I do have a video about staying motivated that has some things you could try our 💕
First of all , I am really amazed that you are so much into uploading quality content everyday on TH-cam in this situation !! I was about to say that you should also take some rest, but then I thought who am I to put an inertia on your progress.. just like Newton's 1 law 🤣🤣 !! You are doing great keep it up
I too use Mendeley and overleaf ,its the best.
For research paper, I use researcher app.
Thanks :)
hahaha I am getting plenty of rest don't worry! I am just making sure to separate the content creation from my workday. It's more of a hobby so it is quite relaxing
Gonna get to Mendeley in a couple of days! Thank you🍧 and actually Asana just looks like a 1/5 of Notion, love Notion
Been meaning to try out Notion
Thank you so much for the detailed analysis. At time: 13:56, you talked about the tasks in the literature review. I am not able to break down the task and planning it. Please help me out.
Thank you so much. I'm using zotero and its been really useful so far. I need to try some of others apps you have mentioned in this video.
Yes I think zotero is similar to Mendeley right?
@@PhDandProductivity yes. Both are quite similar.
Thank you for these references, and I also use some of them because I am a university student in a PhD.
I have a note for you, I hope this note is good :
When shooting a video, it's best to look through the camera or phone lens, not the camera screen
Thanks Again Ciara for your wonderful tips
I'm trying to get used to that! 🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️thank you though!
awesome content. Keep going!
Thank you! Will do!
Thanks for sharing
No problem, hope it is helful
Thanks for this video. Mendeley looks like such a life-saver, definitely gonna try it. Can you share your mendeley profile link might find something useful there, I'm also studying for Machine learning . I use jupyter notebook to take notes which sometime gets pretty annoying as I've to start the kernel but it sometimes comes handy too when I need to write python within the notes. For sharing purposes overleaf is nice
I've never used Jupyter for notes,.. Although I suppose for programming I would have. I don't think I have anything on my Mendeley profile tbh, I use it on my computer as opposed to online
great content.
thank you Zakaria!
Really useful thankyou! Just something to mention - my university does not allow use of overleaf due to potential compromises e.g hacking etc online; and people stealing your research data! Just a heads up!
that's interesting! most of the researchers I know do, although we wouldn't keep any data on it so I'm not sure if it would be the same risk.
Dear Ciara, thanks for the content, but I almost more than two years writing through word, I spend now two weeks searching how to use latex and lost between different app as scrivener, I left the thesis and indulge in apps, I don't know from where to start :) thanks dear
Hi Sarah, I use overleaf for latex ☺️ but just do whatever is easiest for you
A bit late but glad I could learn something
the ops ah there’s always time to learn extra tips!
@@PhDandProductivity you're doing a great job in youtube and in your PhD. Still supporting you as always and can't wait for you to graduate.
