I love love LOVE this advice Kaelyn, a lot of it resonated with me. I'm just on a break between Yr 1 and Yr 2, and think that even going into my second year, a lot of this advice applies at any stage of your PhD. I also think that those of us who started our PhD in the pandemic are in for a much better experience next year as we move out of isolation and have more opportunities to connect with others in our community. Hi Kaelyn! How did you ever end up settling on History for a masters? I always get so discouraged thinking behind a Bachelors because I feel like I should be concerned with earning money more than something I enjoy. I don't want to be a teacher, I want to work in museums and such, but I keep getting this nagging feeling that tells me that's a bad idea. Any advice?

I recommend looking at the jobs you are interested in and seeing what degrees and experience the people in those roles possess. If you are looking into curatorial, an Art History PhD is often needed. For museum education, however, most people have at most a masters degree.
