Journeyman, I've watched your videos a bunch of times getting as smart as I can before I dive head-long into my FC project. I think you said something somewhere about replacing your leaf springs from a Jeep a Gladiator maybe? So....my questions today are; Did you replace your springs and if so, from where? And how much lift do you think you have in your FC? Thank you!
Thanks for the love John, I lifted mine about 7" from stock I did this by simply replacing front and rear leaf Springs with Chevy Cheyenne and Chevy Silverado Springs. I source them from my local LKQ or junkyard for relatively cheap. I am glad to see more people working on these awesome trucks I promise you'll get smiles for days. Good luck and if you have any questions feel free to let me know
Could I please get all that info from you on how to do this to my FC-150? Very intimidating project for me to take on but it needs to be done to use the 33” tires I bought. Also, do you have any suggestions on how to hook up a power steering pump to the hurricane engine? Thanks
It's me again, I'm about to start & will need to make some decisions. I THINK I'm going to use my available cj axles. They are 51.5 front & 50 rear inches track width. What is the track on your 150? And the tire width on your 150? Rim off set? And finally, on your commando, you said you had 33's on 16x8s. The width 10" or 12" tires? Thank you again.
I need to make a video about it. Thats the most commenly asked question. They are 16x8 steelies from summit racing with half moon covers tires are 33 Mastercraft from simple tire.
@@Topofthemoningtoyou thank you very much. I'm trying to get started on my FC & tire size dictates an awful lot of the build. That is a nice balance of upsizing without losing your mind. The gear sets, driveline & brakes can handle 33's ok. I want to install PS like you did & an auto. My wife really loves these old trucks/jeeps & I want to make it an easy driver for her.
@@Topofthemoningtoyou ok. Not much to see yet. It's a 57 170 that had a Massey Ferguson backhoe mounted on the back. Belong to a country funeral home in Virginia. The elderly man wouldn't sell the hoe but I finally did get the 170. I want to custom frame it as the original frame is cracked/repaired numerous times, disk brake the front & more modern the engine. Make it convenient/safe with old/unusual fc looks. I'll likely custom fab the bed to near original & thinking of 4 linking the rear. Big ideas, some money, much less time.
@@johnprice1952 Well I also make the custom interiors for them so whenever you're to that point give me a shout and we can work something out. Carpet, door cards, seat covers, and arm rests
I wish, I happened upon those on ebay. An angled gear box that was produced in this decade is a considerable bit of money the ones I found where from the 80s. Ebay has a few different options
@@Topofthemoningtoyou definitely appreciate the reply. I went a little overboard with my fc150. It was my father's back when he was in high school. Full restomod for an overland style build. Ride quality and creature comforts are the biggest. It's been some work haha
I could have saved you a lot of time and effort on the power steering. Here is how I did my power steering on my FC170. Including the parts used (all new off the shelf and part numbers) www.overlandbound.com/forums/threads/1958-fc-170.11736/
Great tech, thanks for all the talking. Timestamp part was 😂

Do you have a part number or link for the angled drive gear boxes?

Do you still have the manual steering dox
I do however the corkscrew has been cut because I needed the upper portion of the steering arm
I’m looking for the peace that goes through the frame for The Pitman arm
@@brandonodin7333 I do still have that
Would you want to sell it

Your write up is very helpful. Did you have any binding issues with the steering shaft at the angle it is?
Not at all my biggest worry was a large dead spot but the tolerance was tight enough the truck runs true.
