  • Today we will be Trying the Barnes 130 gr TSX in the 6.5 PRC from a clean bore to see if they shoot better from a bore that has been scrubbed clean. Many say you have to scrub the bore before shooting solid copper, let's see if it makes a difference in my 6.5 PRC.

      It was opined that the clean bore shots didn't do well because I hadn't fouled the barrel...but then it wouldn't be a clean bore shot, would it?

    In my .270 Win 😅 started at .050” off the lands and went to .110” off before getting my best groups with the Barnes 110 gr TTSX. It seems to me you left a lot of powder space( and velocity) with that powder. I look for close to 100% case fill for best accuracy. Ive only tried the 140 gr ELDM in my 6.5 PRC with H1000, always sub moa. Haven’t tried the Barnes yet. I really like Barnes performance on game.

      I'm still trying to find the load...I'm pretty far off the lands now, but I need to bump the charge up. With copper 130 gr I should be seeing closer to 3000 FPS. I have ordered some 127 LRX and I am looking at the Hammer bullets.

    Yeah same boat, I tried the 130’s in my seekins and it didn’t like it very well. However it really shot well with any powder load with the 147gr ELD-M. Nearly same velocities too, which I thought was weird but gonna stick with the 147’s for a while. Cheers.

    I shoot alot of copper bullets in various different rifles and they like lot of jump. 80 thou off the lands is a good place to start. Just my 2 cents. Like watching your channel and appreciate you sharing all of your work with us viewers

      These copper bullets are seated farther off the lands than the ELDs and Bergers are. I'll have to measure to see how far next time (if I do more) I make a batch. I think I am pretty close to 80...maybe.

    I shoot Barnes ttsx and lrx exclusively in all my hunting guns. I've always found the best accuracy at close to maximum charges, and coal listed in Barnes' data. The clean bore thing has never been an issue for me. I have yet to find a rifle that wouldn't shoot sub-moa with the right powder and charge. My 6.5 loves the 127 lrx, and will put 3 into 1/2" at 100. It seems that rifle doesnt love that particular bullet, but you do seem to be towards the low end of velocity for the PRC. I'd try a heavier powder charge and maybe give the 127 lrx or the 120 ttsx a try.

    • @Halfmilesniper
      @Halfmilesniper  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I ordered some 127 LRX last night. I am still early in developing the copper load. Higher charges will be coming...that's why the velocity seems low for a PRC.

    • @robertmajors1737
      @robertmajors1737 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @Halfmilesniper Right on man, I was literally in disbelief watching that rifle print such big groups with the ttsx. I've had several different Barnes factory ammo shoot well under an inch. Their factory ammo is usually on the hot end of velocity in a given caliber, which leads me to believe that their people have found the same thing I have about them shooting best at high velocity with a good bit of jump. That 127 lrx is extremely lethal on game as well.

    I think enough people have proven that clean barrels and copper after lead core bullets statistically shoot better. Besides a clean barrel is a controlled metric. Soooo, what you didn’t show us in this video is load development. You didn’t show us if you fired a few fouling shots. So tell us, did you just load those six bullets and shoot only those on a clean barrel? If so, do a ladder test of five each and see if we find a node that projectile likes. We know that rifle will shoot. We know Berger and Lapua will.
    I enjoy videos like this. I’m no expert, I just dabble at it. But I watch as much of F Class John, Erik Cortina, Primal Rights, Ultimate Reloder, WhoTeeWhoo, X-Ring, yourself and others as much as I can. I have a job that affords me time for such, even though it’s a physically brutal job. I do have some experience too though. My 28 Nosler has rang the steel at one mile on big target and MOA at The Clinton House Plantation. It’s also hit at 1.25 miles there as well, but I just got close to the MOA a few times from there. Also my 6.5 Creedmoor has hit both at one mile there. I love this stuff, just wish I got to do it more often.

    • @Halfmilesniper
      @Halfmilesniper  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      In all my rifles copper has been hit or miss whether factory of handload. With that said, I have to use copper to hunt in this state so I want to find a load that works. I did not do any fouling shot, you are correct on that...I shot them from a clean bore. As far as load testing, I looked back at the better shooting copper load (still an inch plus) and tried the next .5 gr up for this test...very abbreviated. Sometimes those shortcuts work out and often they don't.
      I have some LRX on order now because maybe the TSX isn't what I need. We'll see because I want to zero in on a good copper load. I really want to stretch to 1760 yards with this rifle...one of these days...
