I think more videos like this are good. In the name of clarity you and most other channels like this edit out all the other planes, and I think it gives the false impression that these controllers are dealing with one plane at a time and the mistakes seem more implausible. Sometimes it's good to expose the viewer to the real chaos.
Okay, I love this new format for showing someone being blocked. Also kudos to that ATC, he was stressed and saw everyone was too, so he did something funny to help blow off the stress.
i like what the controller did, it showed his frustration but at the same time it showed other pilots the scope of the situation AND lightened the mood of probably everyone with the all-in-one key up.
People can say it was unnecessary, but I actually like it a lot. I've been taxiing around on insane days like this, and it is frustrating and everyone's emotions start running high, slipping in some humor is a great way to help calm everything down and help everyone relax a little bit
Newark, particularly ground, has been chaotic in the last few weeks with very long wait times for departures starting in the afternoons. Route and fixes are stopped on and off, sometimes NOTHING out of Newark is available. When one route kept being opened and closed one ATC said that they just closed it because a drop on rain fell outside NY center. This controller is gold. The ”i’m removing your flight plan” gets pilots attention for sure. Also very professional.
I am in awe of both pilots and ATC , as i am neither, at these choked airports. The professionalism displayed most times is nothing short of inspiring. Respect to you all.
I can only imagine this one guy in JFK going ballistic with people getting stepped on like that lol......Good job on the controller to make his point in a lighthearted fashion instead of screaming "STFU ALL OF YOU!!!!"
Work the problem ! Great job controller for showing this to everyone on the ground. It lightens the mood and shows that progress is being made. Keep up the great work.
Back in 90-91 I rode jumpseat in and out of Dulles as often as my job allowed (fairly often), and this reminds me of their approach frequency. But when I flew through their VFR corridor as a student pilot (always adding STUDENT PILOT to my callsign), suddenly the controller spoke very slowly, clearly, and kindly. When he called me with an advisory or something, the channel went completely silent while he and I were talking. It was surreal. The controller and the pilots who could hardly talk fast enough for their own clearances found all kinds of time for the student who wasn't even in their class B airspace. (I think radio contact was required for VFR transition through that corridor, but I got the full, deluxe flight-following package with a year's supply of Rice-a-Roni.) I knew how busy that frequency normally was, and I knew crews in that airspace were holding back their coms for me. It was very kind of them, though I'm not sure it was all that necessary. I was pretty good on the radio by then. The jumpseat time in that airspace was great prep for that. That corridor was through the IAD-DCA-BWI class B airspace. Does the EWR-LGA-JFK airspace have a VFR corridor with students like me on the approach freq?
This is exactly how you take something like that and sprinkle it with positive energy and flip the script. He could have snapped projecting negative energy and made everything worse. But he chose that route. Everyone got a good laugh and lighted the energy up and all is well.
That was a really great moment. It communicated a lot with humor which you need in situations like that. I loved hearing someone in the background of ATC laughing too. Gold star for that controller.
Awesome! I remember this - I was listening on LiveATC that evening. Glad you posted this. 1st controller cracked me up, but I also want to give kudos to the 2nd controller. He had some good lines too (not shown here) lol.
Sounds like this is from EWR GND (ground, not tower). But I like the "I'm gonna count to 3. And you all say 'I'm ready to taxi!', just to get it out of your system...") 😂

EWR ground freq . I was there trying to to get out after many delays and reroutes and gate hold. This was a light fun moment in a chaotic time trying to get out of EWR. Got off the ground right at the 2 hour mark of pushing from the gate.
Love it. After being in and out of there many times in the past few weeks dealing with the traffic management procedures this gave me a good laugh. Guys are working with the best they got.
Wow, that's a tour de force performance by the controllers! Humor always helps! Well done. Also some real nuggets here worthy of "Kennedy Steve" - "Oh, here comes an airplane...stand by..." And "Stand by - someone better than me is about to take over!"
ATC is on point. I can see how this might be viewed as rude or frustrating, but EWR is a tire fire even on the best of days. Good for them getting things done with a bit of humor.
NYC has three major airports plus Teterboro, Islip and Newburgh. The airspace is extremely congested and any kind of weather deviations create conflicts between traffic flows. So just about any deviation for weather usually means that route closes until the weather dissipates or moves. People say the "weather isnt bad." What passengers and the general public dont notice is that even light rain showers can be produced by towering cumulus and cumulonimbus clouds that pilots deviate around to avoid turbulence. Similarly, the NYC airports are scheduled based on optimal runway configuration at each airport. If the wind, ceiling and visibility isnt allowing the optimal configuration at each airport, this causes conflicts and reduces the arrival and departure rates. This happens on what most people would consider good weather days but poor scheduling and airport infrastructure gets blamed to weather or air traffic control. the New York area doesnt have enough runways and the runways it has are awkwardly located and designed.
I was here that night, remember most if this. DOT return at 2h50 min, deplaned, made a second attempt and got out after I basically pleaded with ground to let us cut the line coming out of the ramp.
I guess we can tend to forget that in the light of ATC goofs that make the news, most are pretty darned sharp like this guy and handle complex situations very well. That was a heck of a performance!

:23, 23 July? I would have expected this yesterday afternoon and last night. The weather here was really bad. I had water dripping down out of my smoke detectors and that was after I got home from a 1 hour drive to go one mile around floods and traffic jams...
Hey all! Question for those of you with some knowledge: what's with the blocked(?) transmissions--those transmissions that have that obnoxious tone overlayed? Where does it come from, and does it have a purpose?
Two or more radios are transmitting at the same time. Causes a "tone" in the receiver as the transmissions interfere with each other. It is not useful, other than helping identify multiple tranmissions. We may not hear the same thing as the controllers, as the receivers that capture these recordings are in a different location from the official ATC radios.
@@BelowMinimums So that tone is just the natural result of two transmitters clashing upon being received? Quite an interesting phenomenon I'll have to look into further! Thank you for your answer :)
So is this funny or unnecessary?
