Great video, I have a Megatouch that does nothing when turning on, not even the fan. I am tearing that PS apart - Thank you for the video.
Well done on fixing this. Very good video. I've just picked up a Megatouch 6000 XL from 1997. The monitor needs work and from what I can see through the garbled screen, it looks like the computer is hanging on post. I either find an old VGA monitor to address the computer first or address the CRT screen. I think it'll need a cap kit. Never done it before but will need to soon as I have 2 monitors now that need addressing.
Thanks for the video.
best thing to do would be to get an alternative video feed into that monitor to confirm your issue is in fact the monitor. but yes the monitor probably needs a rebuild. check out some of my other videos I have some on servicing monitor chassis. good luck!
My megatouch force 2007 when I power it up the fans all come on then a beeping noise start and it doesn't come on.
I have one of those but the 2001 edition. Also the 1997 & 1983 editions too.
You can buy hard drives off EBay with updated games. I believe the last updated drive for this machine is Maxx Crown edition.
Mine beeps once and screen is black. Power supply is new. Any suggestions?
Check memory
Nice work!
Have you figured out any upgrades?
Hey thanks
Never got around to putting any upgrades into it. A friend of mine actually bought it and we use it at on our poker night guys will play and gamble on it.
Still fun!!
I just bought a 1998 Megatouch XL. It goes through the paces of booting up and then stops at ERROR Invalid key!! Do you have any idea what this means? What "key" is it talking about? I'd appreciate any help you can provide.
The megatouch software (CD ROM) or (hard drive) is paired with a dallas security key that looks like a CR-2032 battery with a handle. There will be a socket on the IO board thatit sits in. Either your security key is missing, it does not match the software version you are attempting to run, or the key has just died.
Replacement keys for XL series machines should not be too expensive on ebay,
but you will need to know which key will work with your software version (SAxxx-xx).
Also note that the Dallas security keys were designed for a 10 year life span, so while it
is possible that there are keys that old still functioning, it's only a matter of time before
they will not.
It is also possible that in the future, someone may hack the software so it will no longer
require the key to run.
where can i get a guide to know what caps to replace as this seems similar to a motherboard prob i had with my pc in the past but had no idea how to test them or replace them. I could see the caps were rising but did not realize there was a way to test them. In this case it seemed to be my motherboard that had the issue and not the power supply.
When considering my old Pc motherboard (not quiz machine) and the quiz machine you are talking about and other similar machines from other companies:
1. Is this the case with every PC ONLY power supply as i have a few old broken ones lying around?
2. What would i need to buy to do this? Would i have to be an expert in soldering or could i use a standard multimeter or could I severely mess up and waste lots of money in the process. Are the caps easily available (i.e hardware shops i.e in UK it would be something like maplins).
Is it risky or easy to do?
well, you would need to see what monitor you have in there and then do some research. KLOV is a good place in the monitor section you can probably get some basic service advice for whatever monitor is in your machine. or, you can just replace all of the electrolytics capacitors on the chassis, which is never really a bad idea either. good luck.
Hi' I have a Megatouch Force 2005.. when I turn it on and it boots up, everything comes up as ok in the check list but not the touchscreen.
What do I need to do to fix this?
Please help!
Thanks.
have you checked the connections? that would usually be the first thing i do in attempting to repair something like that.
its very interesting that this machine uses Linux as its OS. i would have either expected Linux or Windows XP for the games.
You need a new key
