Also love those smooth and very dramatic moves by Skip, he was almost like a pantomine ..like MJ used ro do. RIP... Also like his song You are the meaning of Friend...on the /Sweat album...mellow voice. Many talents!
Still smooth as ever, same sweet voice and he travels the world at age 65. in 2022! Also he is a grammy winning trumpet player. Lots of photos of him on Facebook, Google, and wikipedia has his list of music/songs. A true talent..still going .He was 32 when he made "Never Give Up", thin as could be, but had all the emotions. Love this song by him and play it almost every day!
This and Knock Knock - Dazz Band.was Skip Martin's most precious offerings. Skip Martin also did "Let It Whip !" He shoulda been bigger than he was ....
Great mellow song with a great message from the "Sweat" CD Kool & The Gang released when J.T. Taylor left to explore a solo career. Also worth listening to from this album: the funky title cut"I Sweat", the mellow "This Is What Love Can Do" and "Someday" plus the funk track "Brown" from their next album as well as "'90's News", "Life In The '90's", "Crabs In The Barrel", "A Woman, A Lover, A Friend" from the "State of Affairs" album after J.T. returned.
Also check out "You are the meaning of Friend' on the Sweat album. Skip Martin is an undiscovered talent on the East Coase, but very popular in Vegas and San Francisco. Does a lot of gigs in Japan and has written a children's book
Whoa! You named 6 songs that were on the Album "State of Affairs" when JT reunited with Kool and the Gang members in 1990. Correct me......Skip Brown was not on that last Cd with JT Taylor. You got them interminged.
@@listen2music811 You are correct. I did say the last few songs were after J.T. returned! I mentioned them because their performances were so seemless that you could hardly tell the difference between the lead voices or styles on any of the songs mentioned and they were of the same quality. With respect to the "State of Affarirs" album, which featured J.T., I feel the company released the wrong tracks as singles, which led to the non-success of the album and J.T. deciding to leave the group for he second time!
I do have to smile at the costumes and dress of many of the groups from 70's to 2000, dont' have to suffer through half naked women writhing around....all fake hair, fake eyelashes, .and fake whatever. ..to each his own.
My husband and I wrote this song! 1st we ever wrote together about when we met and I was running until he said “Didn’t anyone ever show you…..” Always wondered what would’ve happened if JT sang it.
Y'all wrote a Beautiful song definitely need to put this penmanship back into R&B music skip always been my favorite singer he definitely delivered& brought it home
Very much overlooked beautiful performance by KATG just after JT left group. Somebody please answer who is the lead singer here? The Sweat Album was released in maybe 1985, Has some other very cool songs. JT reunited with KATG in 1996 for the State of Affairs album...I should have been a blockbuster,:"Examples: Lifein the 90's.' " Woman, Lover, Friend", Crabs in a Barrel and more. Fickle Fans!!! State of Affairs was brillliant ! Lot's of social commentary , such as "Color Line" on this album. Maybe fans were not ready to embrace KATG new style. Hey, they couldn't keep doing the same thing forever.!!The last cut on this album was "Reunited", ..very soulful and the spoken intro by JT, just took you to where you wished they really would Reunite..but sadly this was their last album as a group. A Gem!
SKIP MARTIN ....was 32 when he became lead singer of KATG 5 years. Such smooth moves by the group! Missing Dennis Thomas, Clifford Adams. Ronald Bell, may they rest in peace
OK.;much as I love this, ..that SHIRT that Skip Martin is wearing is.....a bit much! He;s thin for sure, but no use making him look like he's ina pajama top! He's too handsome for that...........
I think the "Sweat" album was excellent, even without JT at the helm. HOWEVER, ...that album cover was just not conducive to buying the album. A sweating chest and some long nails........Not good! HOWEVER, the lead singer on "Never give up on a good thing' was smooth enough to make you forget JT for a minute! Also Dear Dennis Thomas, right in the background, those nice moves and that tenor sax. ..wow! a master musician! Miss him ever so much Rest In Peace Dennis Thomas, passed away in mid 2022.
