A Mega Mainline Day - Black Fives, Tornado, Leander & Britannia (2019)

- One of the finest day's of British Mainline Steam in many year's would see five steam locomotives on four steam railtours all on the same day and all within close proximity. The day was Saturday 13th April 2019, and the well known heavyweights of the mainline fleet came out to play. First up was the famous Riley 'Black Fives' in the form of 44871 & 45407 and they provided a fantastic northbound run over the Settle & Carlisle Railway as the pair hauled the Citadel tour from Manchester Victoria to Carlisle. The pair are seen from three angles on approach to Horton In Ribblesdale. looking back this provided the best action of the day !
Just over two hours later we were treated to the class 8 powerhouse 'Tornado' as it also headed northbound over the S&C on the Border Raider from Birmingham to Carlisle with steam joining at Crewe. The Peppercorn A1 is seen twice at Selside Shaw on the approach to Ribblehead.
The third installment of the day would see 45690 'Leander' on the Blackpool Pennine Express, which would see the Jubilee class head out of Blackpool and over to Hellifield returning up Giggleswick bank to Carnforth. Steam tours over the Hellifield to Carnforth stretch are rare although not as rare as seeing steam at Blackpool. Three angles capture the Jubilee working well up the Bank from Settle Junction.
The final day's action would see 70000 'Britannia' on the return leg on the William Shakespeare steam tour from Preston to Stratford Upon Avon. We capture the Brit class making light work of the 1/125 slow line out of Stafford at Searchlight Lane Junction as the locomotive closes in on the end of it's journey at Crewe. This topped off an incredible day's action on the mainline and once again proving the the United Kingdom is the home of steam preservation !

Super Saturday the 13th! If any TH-cam rail fan (and there are millions throughout the world) was fortunate to see this 13 minute 42 second gem they would be hooked on your spectacular gift for filming the majesty of the British steam railroad landscape. Having personally subscribed to many TH-cam channels with subscriber bases ranging from a few hundred to more than a million it is obvious that your subscriber base should be well over 100, 000. I feel blessed that you are so passionate to dedicate your talents to filming the joys of steam.
This just goes to show huge the main line steam movement has become. 5 locomotives, 44 coaches to prepare. A huge thank you to everyone who makes all this possible. Your photography was fantastic as well. Leander is always a favourite of mine, no matter what the load, it always performs well.

Great video, I saw Black Fives at Ribblehead, Tornado at Settle and Leander at Hellifield but didn't get to see Britannia, thank you for sharing this video, wonderful to see all locomotives and their rail tours in one video, mainline steam in Great Britain is thriving and looking and sounding very healthy!

A pretty epic day's filming! Lucky the weather was bright for it, even if it was a bit windy, though it made form some very nice effects with the steam.
Well done on capturing these engines on the mainline! Your opening scenes with the pair of Black 5's is just amazing! These are probably my favourite (even more than some GWR) engines from the "Big 4" era!

whenever I see these train tours going over the Settle and Carlisle, it amazes me how they ever built it with mostly pick n shovel!! The terrain seems impossible to overcome!!
I saw both the Border Raider, William Shakespeare AND Pinine Blackpool express at Crewe yesterday! But I saw pinine Blackpool express with the class 86 ‘Les Ross’

It was a chilly wind up north last weekend but so worth it to see these fabulous engines - was it me or was the driver giving Tornado a bit of a work out?

Great footage but the pauses on the title pieces and static pictures is too long

5:37 find far more trains of this magnitude in Britain than u would probably find in the states....
