Use a micrometer to measure stock diameter, then use micrometer to measure depth of keyseat. Subtract the two and you have depth of key seat. A depth mic will give you a wrong reading because you removed the crown of stock, so your measuring below the point of where you should be, and that number is allusive and hard to get.
Measuring method of key way depth is wrong here. It will not give correct depth reading at the place where it is being measured because height reduction is there at key way edges.
