  • PPE and VSE sent me their catch can to test out on my 3.0 Duramax Diesel truck. i did just that, then shared the install videos and showed how they perform. You guys kept asking which is better and this is the video you have been waiting for. I hope this helps you make your decision on which to get for your truck. FYI PPE Discount code: DEMONWORKS10 No discounts available for VSE at this time, if I come across one, I will update this.

    Ordered a VSE today..
    I have used an Elite Engineering Catch Can for at least 10 years on my 2013 ZL1 Camaro and it is awesome in oil vapor capture. When I do an oil change I usually drain 5 to 6 ounces of oil out of the can.
    Was hoping they would build one for the 3.0L. I reached out to them, but it doesn't seem like they will do one anytime soon.
    Looking forward to installing the VSE soon.
    Thanks for the review.

    I installed the PPE can on my truck last week and here are my thoughts:
    1.PPE vs VSE: I chose it over the VSE because the overall length of the system makes it seem like it will work much better (as your results have shown). Longer tubing, larger diameter tubing, the screen mesh, and having the can outside the engine bay means the air passing through will slow down and cool down, allowing more oil and water vapor to condense and fall out of suspension in the air stream. As far as freezing is concerned, I see it as a non-issue with the PPE can because there's no way the truck will fill up the 3 feet of half inch tubing and the aluminum reservoir within a single oil change period unless there's a bigger problem going on.
    2. Fitment issues: For my 2021 Sierra Elevation, there were some electrical connections between the battery and firewall that made running the main hoses a little tricky, but the biggest issue was the mounting bracket. My headlight assembly looks different than the one from your truck or from the PPE instructions and the can would not fit where it was supposed to. It was a quick fix to cut the external fender well portion of the bracket and weld it back to the other part of the bracket 2 inches behind the original position. Once that was done, it fit like a glove.
    3. Draining: The plug supplied by PPE seems like an easy out on their part, which surprised me. After testing it out and seeing how much of a hassle it is to get the thing out, I replaced it with a half inch locking ball valve and hose barb. It works like a charm and I don't have to worry about it accidentally opening up and sending a CEL for an open CCV system.

      Completely agree with your write up and the reason I chose PPE as well. I was very surprised to drain half a cup of water after only 500 miles but this was possibly due to some strange climate conditions around the time I installed

    VSE on top, also much easier to drain when you get rid of that pesky dpf

    I need to ask an off topic question if you care to share your opinion. What are your feelings on the 5.3L Gas Engine? I read mixed reviews and even talked to some owners that swear by that engine. Thanks in Advance!

    • @DemonWorks
      @DemonWorks  หลายเดือนก่อน

      I believe at this point in time, the 5.3 is the most reliable and trouble free engine gm makes right now. For the 1500 ... This is considering short and long term. Yes, they have the occasional lifter issues but that's minor in comparison to other issues.

      @@DemonWorks Thank you very much, still tossed up on the 5.3L and the 3.0L diesel. My neighbor has a 2019 Sierra 1500 Denali with the 5.3L Gas and has loved it with no issues and it has 104,000 miles on it. Can I even justify the extra cost for diesel and DEF when he is getting 28MPG average between city and highway?

      You might have spent thousands of dollars on your vehicle and want to prevent long term maintenance, but the manufacturer has the power and money to say that this will or will not avoid the warranty. Easily thing to do it remove the aftermarket part/s before taking your vehicle into the dealership.

      @@AlisoBob Sorry, no improvement in the prior videos. I removed the PPE after the last video was done on that and I set it aside. What I was trying to say in the video was that the VSE caught minimal, the PPE started off the same then my final drain had quite a bit in comparison. You can see in this video the PPE is still dripping it out. It honestly dripped out just as much as the VSE can did, and that's after the ppe was drained and left on the shelf. I'm sorry in the lack of catching oil in my truck, it just didn't have the results. I'm ok with that, but I have seen many others with a lot of oil. I'm just trying to share my experiences with the products.
