the angel breached into nerv command room actually helps shinji get closer to it. if he fought it along with asuka, he would've also get smacked by angel's long ranged fire power. shinji's sulking created that opportunity.

When you imagine the level of violence, despair and sadness in the serie, you can imagine the conflicting feelings of depression that Hideki Anno had when he produced this anime! xD
god damn i love classic zeruel's design, perfect design of destiny: unstoppable, slow moving while taking its sweet ass time, never strays from its path and lets nothing stand in its way, and most of all simple and not complicated to look at.
This is a genuinely phenomal work of editing - you should have this on a reel to show around, there's about a million new animes a year that could do with such concise storytelling
