I think tom, was a comforting idea when Tolkien wrote Lord of the Rings The Fellowship of the Ring because up until that point the fellowship is quite dark. It's a kind of what are we going to do situation. I think Tolkien wanted everyone to relax because he knew how anxious we all would be. And Tom Nails that. He is peace, he is calm he is the eye of the storm. Tom has always been, simply put he is.

Tom was not jolly when he was saving the hobbits from Old Man Willow and the Barrow-wights! He has incredible gravitas and seriousness. Gandalf the White didn't spend time with him at the end of the quest just to share a few jokes!!!

I haven't watched Rings of Power, so perhaps I shouldn't comment, but this feels very wrong. From what I saw advertised and reviewed of Season 1 though, it's probably just following form. Tom Bombadil should just be left out of things, as he kind of is outside of things (he is like a personification of Nature) - mention him, perhaps yes, but leave a little something up to the imagination of the reader/viewer.

To everyone who likes RoP, I really didn't want to rain on your parade, but can someone please someone explain why you think the following scenes and writing choices in season 1 are worthy of Tolkien 🤣 🤮 - -Galadriel jumps from a boat and plans to swim the sea all the way back to middle earth, but then casually meets Sauron; Did the writers even know that Feanor and his forces had to massacre the Teleri to get ships, but Galadriel here casually face palmed everyone by showing they could just simply swim 😆 - Galadriel and almost everyone else in the village tanked pyroclastic materials from a volcanic eruption straight in the face and survived it without any burnt injuries; -Celebrimbor and Elrond travel from Eregion to Moria without a horse, a security escort and without any dirt on their robes; - the Harfoots singing "never leave anyone behind" yet when someones too old, get lost, or injured, they leave them behind without batting an eye; - Volcano erupting after being poured by water then the place turned into Mordor (even Melkor in Year of the lamps is now scratching his head); -Numenorians specially Elendil continue to praise the sea and say "the sea is always right" despite the fact that his wife drowned (shouldn't he feel contempt?) ; -Elves in the watch tower who are supposed to have ultra clear eye sight even from afar failed to detect the tunnel being built by orcs almost under their noses; -Celebrimbor who is supposed to be a master blacksmith, doesn't know anything about using alloys; -the villagers and Galadriel decided to make their stand against Adar's forces in a village with no walls and fortification, instead of that watch tower with walls and a single path where they could pick off approaching orcs: -Galadriel's whole revenge arc being pointless because according to Tolkien's lore, all dead elves will someday get resurrected. I'm already setting aside the fact that this show isn't connected to anything Tolkien wrote narratively, and yet I still find myself unable to immerse because of these stupid writing decisions🤣. You really have to turn your brain off when you watch this show🤣
As you already mentioned, these first photos are some way off in too many ways. Plus, Bombadil is a very difficult character to include in an adaptation, as he's very uninvolved with Middle-Earth, there is a reason others have skipped him and I highly doubt that these people are THE ones that are going to pull it off successfully. Good lord, Tom's costume looks so bad and the lighting/colors are right in line with the drab, undersaturated look that RoP seems to be going for. Against my better judgement I stuck it out and finished the trainwreck which is RoP season one. The show is so poorly written and the costumes are laughable. I can't put myself through another season of it.
There is no reason he can't be. At the Counsel of Elrond Gandalf says that Tom "Now lives" in the land of his choosing. 'Now' as in the third age, and 'now' implying he didn't before. If he has been around since the beginning of Arda then there is no reason to think he hasn't traveled all, or most of it.

I’ve got to say, I got super into Tolkien a few years ago now, and I’ve found the fandom one of the most dispiriting parts of it. All everyone does is complain things aren’t exactly like the source material. It’s really disappointing, and it’s putting me off the work.
As someone who’s read all of Tolkien’s works pertaining to LOTR & it’s Legendarium, as well as watched all cinematic adaptations ever released, I get where you’re coming from. There’s a lot of vitriol and pointless criticism from very close minded folks who choose to hate this show without giving any of the plot points or tropes a second though. Everyone knows this isn’t canon, but that doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy this adaptation for what it is, with all its pros and cons. At the end of the day, it’s widely successful, S2+ coming up, and the majority of folks are enjoying it (they just don’t post on the internet about it, cause well, no one cares). Anything that can bring people into Tolkien’s works is a win for me, and plenty of people I know have gotten into LOTR/Legendarium because of rings of power.
Oh is it Tom, I was thinking it was to be a blue wizard. You may be right though. I’m a big Tolkien fan, but I can separate that from my enjoyment of other things. As such I really enjoyed season 1 and this looks to be very good too.
It doesn't look happy because he's not supposed to be happy .. he just is .. ethereal beings don't typically have a lot of emotions.. Tom could be kind of that one guy that's always existed .. the one that knows what's going to happen but doesn't really interfere a whole lot just plays the part he needs to .. but either way his role is very important in the story as of now
They lost me forever in the first season by episode 3. I dont care what they do now going forward unless they make an apology and say they are going to do a complete do over with actors who can actually act and writers who can actually write and keeping political agendas and woke ideals out of a classic story.

We are all being decieved. The showrunners dislike Tolkien, as they are trying to ruin it for the next generation of potential fans. "tom bombadil odd"... i mean, yes he should be. he even confused gandalf. i also picture him as vividly bright. but for a live action, i think tonining that down is good since it is only recently that we really got vivid clothing. the "always happy tom" just feels too "uncle toms cabin" . too much of a sterotype and that they would be out of touch. now tom bombadil might be that out of touch in the 2nd age, he was in the 3rd.. but if he is walking around and seeing entire realms destroyed i dont think he would be.

I’m a big Tolkien fan, but I can separate that from my enjoyment of other things. As such I really enjoyed season 1 and this looks to be very good too.
It doesn't look happy because he's not supposed to be happy .. he just is .. ethereal beings don't typically have a lot of emotions.. Tom could be kind of that one guy that's always existed .. the one that knows what's going to happen but doesn't really interfere a whole lot just plays the part he needs to .. but either way his role is very important in the story as of now
They lost me forever in the first season by episode 3. I dont care what they do now going forward unless they make an apology and say they are going to do a complete do over with actors who can actually act and writers who can actually write and keeping political agendas and woke ideals out of a classic story.
Tom Bombadil is going to Fix ALL of it. And he SHOULD be the confident happy jolly flamboyant Tom we ALL know. This is a character that SHOULD be adapted perfectly as he has been portrayed. We know it's about to get weird with Tom. In the best way possible.

Tom Bombadil and Goldberry being Morgoth' and Ungoliant is an old rumour already debunked as a fake scoop months ago, right along with the rumour that Sauron has a son in the show, none if it is true. Something that a well reputed channel like this should know by now. I can't believe it is still being repeated smh

Spoiler alert,, basically Tom bombadil is an ethereal type being.. he still has no agenda he trained sauron, and now there's a dark wizard rising in the (East I think) .. and now the stranger being gandalf is there and he's going to be made into gandalf by the help of Tom..
I said to myself right at the start of the video why is he not looking happy.
Hopefully they don't spend 90% of screen time on really boring characters, like season 1.

I don't hate the look, bright yellow boots would be hard to incorporate into a live action setting without it looking off. But i don't like how serious he looks in all these photos. He doesn't look like a jolly fellow!

Plus he has no real place in this show,this portrayal is Dead on Arrival, this is what happens when you fire Tom Shippey they just do whatever.
I'd rather not see Tom Bombadil in a great film, than see him in the bloody awful Rings of Power. 😢

Everything we know about Tom suggests that he was not out East or that he has ever been a wanderer. It feels like bad fanfic.
We are all being decieved. The showrunners dislike Tolkien, as they are trying to ruin it for the next generation of potential fans. Maybe they wasn't allowed to join the college Tolkien society back in the day and still hold a grudge. How could they be so off the mark with it all, its all so frustrating. This show could have been amazing.
No one with credibility supports this or is happy about it. They openly admit they are changing this character. Not even hiding it.
Considering they didn’t race swap him, I wouldn’t be surprised if a female or race swapped character shows him up

i also picture him as vividly bright. but for a live action, i think tonining that down is good since it is only recently that we really got vivid clothing.
the "always happy tom" just feels too "uncle toms cabin" . too much of a sterotype and that they would be out of touch. now tom bombadil might be that out of touch in the 2nd age, he was in the 3rd.. but if he is walking around and seeing entire realms destroyed i dont think he would be.
