I am a ’76 Illinois grad and just stumbled across your video. This is s good overview and quite enlightening to hear how some things have changed and how some things have remained the same. I lived in FAR for my first three years before fleeing to an apartment. Back then I think FAR was barely ten years old so it was the dorm in the best condition. With the exception of the places you mentioned in the newer six pack, all the other dorm and certified private residences are the same as the ones when I attended university. You are right about FAR being far, and as an engineering student with classes on the other end of the campus I learned to haul a$$ to avoid being late for class. I think I set some land speed records in the process. Got a good chuckle about moldy Bromley Hall; I can imagine what an additional fifty years has done to the place. If you lived in the dorms there was no real advantage of one dining hall over the other. I do not think we had the option at dining at other dining halls; outside of any possible convenience there was no real reason to do so. All dining halls were set up in the same mess hall/cafeteria style format. You would show up, show your meal pass, grab a tray, get in line and take your chances. BTW, smoking was still a thing back then so picture that at meal time if you will. The only deviation from normal regarding dining hall options was that you did have the option of making your own sack lunch if you had a full class load out in the boondocks and this precluded you from getting back to your dorm for lunch. Of course you could shell out for fast food or option in the Illini Union. I recall we had two choices in the Union back then. There was a cafeteria in the basement and a vending room on the first floor. I’ve got other tales about registration, doing laundry and buying overpriced books at the bookstores but I’ll save those for another time. Spoiler alert; picture registration being held in the Armory without any online options if you had to add/drop classes or needed any changes your schedule.
Good presentation and best of luck to you.

Very good video. I like how neutral you kept the topics even when you didn't engage/didn't like in some activities. Very good.

I would say that ISR has the “Fancy“ food and ike has the “normal” food. Lar varies but it’s food is basic. Far has some cool dinners like breakfast dinners like they had last week. Overall though the food is mediocre and whoever is coming here in the future don’t expect it to be amazing.

You're omitting the fact that the entire setup is to keep masses of people out of the labor market until generations before you retire and pass on. Also to put you into debt.
