Ike / 6 Pack -- do you like to party? FAR/PAR -- buses begin here so you never have to wait for a bus and find out that it's full. It's the furthest from campus because it's on South Quad but the bus system makes up for it ISR -- new renovations, sick dining hall, library, cafe, lots of engineers live here Allen -- No A/C but artsy majors Busey Evans -- girls' dorms All the dorms have roaches LOL unfortunately **in general though, I wouldn't recommend living in dorms this school year because COVID19 makes the new policies and rules SUCK. I don't think you'll have a good time but that's up to you! Hope that helps/gives you more tips :).
Went to Illinois in the early 1970’s (BSME ’76) so a real dinosaur here. I spent three years in FAR and my last year in an apartment. Back then FAR was considered the “Hilton” dorm because it was air conditioned. I am not sure but I think only one of the ISR dorms was air conditioned back then. No real difference in personalities of the dorms back then, all basically barracks style living at its best. You signed up for a dorm based upon convenience to your classes and that is why ISR and Allen Hall filled up early. You had a better chance of being struck by lightening then getting the dorm you wanted, to wit I lived in FAR and was an engineering major so I learned to walk fast. Food was no better or worse at the various dorms back then, all your basic “mess hall” style of cuisine. Thanks for the trip down memory lane; I was most recently back on campus in 2016 and spent the day revisiting old haunts but I appreciate your insights as an insider.
unfortunately i don't know many underclassmen that dormed there, but on their website it says its mixed! you'll have fun not getting woken up at 4am before a big test tho!!
lauren_ellst LAURENN haha there was literally NO rooms available when we went on, so we emailed housing and 30 minutes later i think they opened up the transfer wing. Probably cuz there was not a single other room
PAR is amazing! my bestie moved there from snyder bc of the community. hopefully you get it! if not you can transfer in second semester or as people move around
U of I is in Urbana-Champaign, it is the first university from the University of Illinois system, so if you drop the name of the city where it is located, people talk about the one in Urbana-Champaign. UIC is in Chicago, and UIS is in Springfield.
Hey, I am going to be an incoming freshman and I am interested in attending the university. I was wondering if there was housing that allowed pets. I really want to take my dog, but I was wondering if me being an incoming Freshman will affect anything?
Weston has my heart
