Soft banning C. Rift would be stupid. Its an answer, not a wincon. It considerably prolongs the game only if its used incorrectly like in the video, thrown out just for lulz or get in a few points of damage. It should be mainly utilised to enable winning the game or preventing others to either win or kill you.
"You were literally complaining about drawing cards earlier!" "I didn't wanna draw cards then, now I wanna draw cards." "You are an inconsistent, abacus-wielding madman." "This... this is correct."
I'm watching old episodes of Commander Clash to cheer myself up, and let me tell you - Tomer never fails to bring a smile to my face. He's so dorky and happy; it's fantastic!
So happy to see Richard playing my Athreos deck, and so happy to see it winning! ^_^ Wish that Athreos would've worked as intended, but MTGO bugs. Was really hoping to see the Aetherflux come into play when I started watching the video. Wish we could've seen Children of Korlis as well - They are also clerics. @Richard, I hope you enjoyed playing the deck. Welcome to the fold. Your church membership card is in the mail.
Never have I love the “bullying” of a player as I do with the Goldfish group with Vince. It’s all in good humor and Vince takes it like a champ. Every group has that one player they tease and I’m glad to see salt be poured for fun and not hate.
Sam Cain It really does feel OP, kinda like Balance does (if you’ve ever tried it out). I don’t like bans in EDH but if Rift was banned, I don’t know if it’d be missed with much regret.
blue is not supposed to have wraths. The whole point of blue is that it's weak to getting overrun by creatures. Also, cyclonic rift is far from their only wrath effect. Most people only think that because rift is the ubiquitous best one. And it flat out wins the game most times, and not stabilize, as most people defending it say that it does.
Let's see, River's Rebuke, Whelming Wave, Coastal Breach, Crush of Tentacles, Devastation Tide, Displacement Wave, Engulf the Shore, Evacuation, Inundate, Upheaval, Wash Out... Don't give me that nonsense about blue losing their only wrath. There are PLENTY of other blue board clears that *don't* just win the game. Soft-ban Cyclonic Rift, and as for you people playing commander, don't run it. I am a firm believer that it should be banned, and I'm voting for its ban with every deck I have that runs blue.
PalPlays exactly! The mere fact that no one can think of a substitute proves its objective power level. It is so strong that no one even pays attention to the other effects that do the same thing but in a fair way.
I approve a soft ban on cyclonic rift. As it pertains to the show: It either extends the game by an extra hour, or wins the game on the spot. It's not fun to watch on camera, and takes no creativity, as it's an auto include in any deck that plays blue. As it pertains to edh as a whole: It's a one sided, instant speed, wrath effect. I often debate what card has won more games between cyclonic rift and craterhoof. But the problem with that debate is that craterhoof is undoubtedly more of a fair card because, at the very least, you have to commit to the board with other creatures for it to have any effect. Where as you can just sit back and do nothing until you get to seven mana with cyclonic rift and then clear the board at end of turn and lock the game out. If any other color had an even remotely similar effect, I'd say it's fine. But the fact is that the closest thing that exists is "in garruks wake" which only does creatures and it's sorcery speed and costs more.
The overload for cyclonic rift should be 9 mana than it was a litle bit more fair. This is just crazy. They may ban the card in general in edh. Such an unfair card. One sides things should kost 9 mana and sorcery speed.
Are you opposed to play any wrath? They all make the game go longer. Since Cyclonic Rift is asymmetrical it's one of the less problematic wraths from this point of view. I have a different hypotesis: the games go so long exactly because of all these soft bans. I believe to make the game shorter they should up the power level of their decks, not lower it.
The difference is cyclonic rift turns the game into an arch enemy, where as a wrath is a clean reboot. It turns into a 3 person's resources struggling against the 1, and unless teh 1 is winning in the next few turns through redundant/proteictive stuff, it's going to go on longer.
Ashra __ The problem is Cyclonic Rift is a one-sided board wipe. It isn’t Blue’s only board wipe and there are many Symmetrical board wipes like Coastal Breach and Devastation Tide.
Let's see, River's Rebuke, Whelming Wave, Coastal Breach, Crush of Tentacles, Devastation Tide, Displacement Wave, Engulf the Shore, Evacuation, Inundate, Upheaval, Wash Out... Soft-ban Cyclonic Rift, and as for you people playing commander, don't run it. I am a firm believer that it should be banned, and I'm voting for its ban with every deck I have that runs blue.
My favorite part of this channel is the hand drawn cubes with the commanders in the thumbnail I love seeing the thumbs and guessing what each of the commanders are (btw ghaji really screwed me up I 100% thought that was ryusei)
Oh my god. Vince is just the best in this series. sorry Seth, Tomer, Richard but Vince is my MVP of the series. "No it's cause I played this week" -Vince quote of the week.
PleasantKenobi, Embrace the fued and justify their attacks. If you keep blowing up Seth's lands, he'll eventually be terrified of you, it'll just take 2 or 3 matches to train him into leaving you alone.
I wish there were close ups of each card that is casted. I enjoy watching these videos, but I don’t know what every card does. There no explanation of the cards being played.
Can we just appreciate, that Seth had an infinite-combo in hand + Braingeyser to kill someone... Also tap everyones lands... forever. In case you don't know the combo: Play Ashnods Altar, play Mistbind Clique. Put champion trigger on stack and Inalla trigger above (so it resolves first). Make a copy of clique. Now the champion trigger of the copy goes on the stack. Champion the original clique with the copy (tap down the lands of target player). Now sacrifice the copy to the altar... You gained 1 colorless mana and can repeat this forever!
There are PLENTY of other blue board clears that don't just win the game. Tomer saying he's due to play aggro, isn't that your New Years Resolution.........for next year, lol. Also, the Moonfolk shall get no revenge unless Tomer stuffs in some surprise Eldrazi and try to pass them off as honoree Moonfolk like Seth has dual lands and strip mines in a g tribal deck.
Jason Korf well I mean I personally would consider emrakul the promised end 100% on theme for moonfolks (but only if he also runs seal in the moon (I think that's the name of that card))
On the council's judgement vote: Vince isn't quite correct. Tomer mostly did have to vote for warbringer. Look at it from tomer's perspective. If he voted for coalition relic, seth would have voted for ojutai (seth wasn't being massively hurt by warbringer, and would likely prioritize keeping his coalition relic alive), and vince would also have likely voted ojutai (bigger threat than coalition relic). This would be the worst outcome for tomer, as he would lose his ojutai and fail to remove Vince's warbringer. However, there was a gamble Tomer could have taken. He could have talked with Vince and told him that in exchange for not voting for warbringer, Vince would also have to vote for coalition relic. Then, Seth would see that there is 1 vote for relic and 1 for warbringer, with someone who has promised to vote for coalition relic. Seth now has to vote for warbringer. This would lead to Tomer getting rid of both warbringer and relic, while keeping his ojutai. BUT, the problem with that scenario is that if Vince and Seth aren't idiots, then Vince can lie, and then after Tomer's vote, collude with Seth to kill ojutai. This leads to Tomer's worst scenario. Therefore, Vince, the fact that Tomer chose warbringer is a calculated and logical decision that basically respected Seth and your abilities as logicians! You should feel honored that your opponent thinks so highly of you!
This 2v1v1 meme has lasted long enough and I hope Vince and Richard start working together from now on because Seth and Tomer will just continue to refuse inconveniencing each other.
#SoftBanCyclonicRift Also, you guys are going to play the C19 precons soon right? If you do, Tomer should play Aminatou, Seth should play Estrid, Vince should play Lord Windgrace, and Richard should play Saheeli.
I think that the people who make the decks should write a primer on how to use them properly. This was a bit painful to watch, although Seth once again sabotaging Vince was hilarious, especially after Vince refrained from doing the same to Seth earlier. Pure gold.
i love tomer. I don't have a wrath! has nev's disk in hand. I don't have an answer to teferi! has cryptic in hand and nev's disk and can counter the teferi on the way down with unwind. He complain a lot about youtube comments but seems to forget we ca see his hand.
Doesn't return the creature from graveyard to hand. All of Richard's creatures that were dying would've been back in his hand (Vince would've been the target and probably wouldn't pay at 12 life). That means more life from Soul Sisters, more wrathing from Angel of Condemnation, more exiling from Leonin Relic-Warder, etc. The whole deck is built around returning low-value creatures to recast over and over again. When you can't return the creatures, the deck loses it's focus.
Yes, you should soft ban Cyclonic Rift in Commander Clash. It reduces the fun of three of the players and thus negatively affects the viewer experience. I only run it in one group hug in paper magic and only if I can kill everyone after bouncing their boards. I don't like adding an extra hour to the game.
We forgot to put it in the description originally. Here you go: www.mtggoldfish.com/articles/commander-clash-s5-e5-viewer-submitted-decks-athreos-vs-gahiji-vs-inalla-vs-raff
Cyclonic Rift is the pinnacle of bullshit and IIRC the only reason it hasn’t been shot out of the format out of a goddamn cannon is the guy who makes the banlist uses it in his decks. Kill it. Also, if it’s the magical world of 1tix next, Vince might have a chance.
Vince. Listen. Build a death and taxes type commander deck, or some degenerate combo. They're going to try to force you out of the game early, you just got to win before they do. You've replaced Seth probably better known as Saffron Olive in my heart as my favorite magic content producer

"You are an inconsistent, abacus-wielding madman."
"This... this is correct."
best quote ever
“Inconsistent, abacus wielding madman”
THis is my next D&D character
To be fair, I don't think Vince can complain about abacus-wielding.
This week it was Seth's fault
PS: I'm starting to believe in the conspiracy theory that they all let Richard win bc they fear being fired if not
I'd believe it
Commander Clash Season 5 leaderboard:

Hey now... I said there are no demons IN the church. I never said the Church itself wasn't also a demon.

"You are an inconsistent abacus-wielding madman"- Vince. Needs to be a shirt
"Do people at home enjoy this!?" Yes, Vince. Yes we do. More salt for the salt mines.
I've started to enjoy this series much more since Vince was added
But tomer thalias lancers is a 4/4 first strike tutor. Find an urzas ruinous blast or karns temporal sundering. It's so good

Cmon Vince, if anyone deserves to be color screwed, it's Seth probably better known as SaffronOlive
This hand would be sooo good with just one more land...
Yes, soft ban cyclonic. You can river's rebuke if you want, but rift is silly.
Sam Cain It really does feel OP, kinda like Balance does (if you’ve ever tried it out). I don’t like bans in EDH but if Rift was banned, I don’t know if it’d be missed with much regret.

loved tom, jake and jen, but i think this might be the best season yet.
"More people need to die" - seth 2018
over two hours? alright, strap in bois, time to get a drink!
Can I suggest a theme?
I think you guys should make decks based around your favorite video games. (again)
MTGO?
They did favorite game before.
I mean again.
A deck based on MGTO? Too bad Hot Fix isn't online.
I approve a soft ban on cyclonic rift.

I'm for a cyclonic rift soft ban
I don't like when COMMAND CLASH uses Cyclonic Rift because of how it makes the game play longer, so soft ban is ok.
Are you opposed to play any wrath? They all make the game go longer. Since Cyclonic Rift is asymmetrical it's one of the less problematic wraths from this point of view.

Yes, soft ban Cyclonic Rift. The Commander ban list is a hot mess.
Pls don't, don't remove mono blue's only wrath

Please soft ban cyclonic rift. It either ends the game on the spot with no effort or makes the game last twice as long.
That Raff deck was very interesting!! All decks seemed good though. I'm ambivalent about Cyclonic Rift
My favorite part of this channel is the hand drawn cubes with the commanders in the thumbnail I love seeing the thumbs and guessing what each of the commanders are (btw ghaji really screwed me up I 100% thought that was ryusei)
That was a literal betrayal, Seth, we all saw you sweet talking Tomer into voting on Vince's dragon...
Oh my god. Vince is just the best in this series. sorry Seth, Tomer, Richard but Vince is my MVP of the series. "No it's cause I played this week" -Vince quote of the week.
Vince is the new jake
I don't remember. Didn't Jake win a lot?
Face Octopus not too much. He played mono red chaos and hat tribal when no one else had a ridiculous restriction
22:15 Yes, we like this
Yes, yes we do.
I stopped what I was doing when Vince said this, I'd never do it to anyone, but it would of been hilarious.
SparTadepT I just can't force them to have more a fued with me than they already do.
PleasantKenobi, Embrace the fued and justify their attacks. If you keep blowing up Seth's lands, he'll eventually be terrified of you, it'll just take 2 or 3 matches to train him into leaving you alone.

Can I get this Azusa decklist, sounds fun
Cyclonic rift should be soft banned.
Nope, it's mono blue's only wrath, and also you know simic's only wrath
Mono blue has other board wipes and simic has another wipe. Rift is busted in half.
Ashra __
1. It isn't blues only boardwipe
2. It is by default an asymmetric boardwipe
Just play Devastation Tide and everybody is happy
Ashra __ I feel like you have no idea how truly broken cyclonic rift is
Let's see, River's Rebuke, Whelming Wave, Coastal Breach, Crush of Tentacles, Devastation Tide,
Displacement Wave, Engulf the Shore, Evacuation, Inundate, Upheaval, Wash Out...

Jason Korf well I mean I personally would consider emrakul the promised end 100% on theme for moonfolks (but only if he also runs seal in the moon (I think that's the name of that card))
Spooky Eldrazi
Touche, Emrakul the real Patron of the Moon.
Vince I totally VOTE THAT YOU SHOW HIM LAND DESTRUCTION IN COMMANDER IS THE GRAVEST OF SINS.
1:34:00 Why would you even consider lying game of magic, let alone at all? Thank you Tomer for sticking to your word!
IIRC, For part of the game it looked like Vince felt resigned to losing and opted to go for a 'king maker victory' and back Richard.
Yes, please soft ban cyclonic rift!! it's too good!!!
Vince makes the series better.
Richard* "Tomer do you have a Wrath?" Tomer* "No" (Tomer literally has a Nev's disc in hand)
I'm just here for Tomers puns. and punts. Another great vid fellas!
This 2v1v1 meme has lasted long enough and I hope Vince and Richard start working together from now on because Seth and Tomer will just continue to refuse inconveniencing each other.
Geez, it would be interesting to see you guys play diplomacy. Pretty sure there would be fist fights w/ this group.
#SoftBanCyclonicRift
Also, you guys are going to play the C19 precons soon right?
If you do, Tomer should play Aminatou, Seth should play Estrid, Vince should play Lord Windgrace, and Richard should play Saheeli.
C18 only arrives on Magic Online in November and not all the cards so we will need to wait a bit.
Normally I cheer for Vince, but I have to back the Cleric tribal this week!
That Patron Wizard breakdown had me laughing. Vince is a witty man!
PalPlays there is more over on my channel. :p
Oh I know! I loved your Mono-Blue Minotaurs video. A little inappropriate at times, but I guess headphones are an adequate solution.
Yes. You should soft ban cyclonic rift.
Punt, punt, punt... Tomer, you should be a kicker in the NFL.
Softban Cyclonic Rift. Personally I'm in favor of it being banned completely.
I'm really surprised that they didn't archenemy Richard as soon as he started gaining life.
You can have a blue black dual land with a white black commander?
1:57:37 But what if you had saved him with the Swords, Tomer? He would have been indebted to you forever.
But if it’s a wizard than isn’t it technically technically a wizard? Also if it’s a cleric it’s techinically also technically a cleric.
Just remember Tomer to just show the deck ... We all have the list already...
I'm also very dissappointed that no one built a deck with a Pummeler in it for ya'll
Seth discarding Ashnod altar + mistbind clique isn't that just infinit mana and infinit block everyone(except Tomer) out of the game?
yes, soft ban cyclonic rift. reasonable exception is viewer submitted decks though.
If I wasn't so lazy, I would have sent in my Oloro, Ageless Ascetic Board Wipe Tribal
I'll go ahead and admit that I'd be ok with Seth getting his just desserts with some land destruction happening to him, lol!!
I support the soft ban of Cyclonic Rift
I love Vincent's sarcastic humor !
Vince: people who believe in magic are men of science, yes.
27:18 Drago or Brago deck? I couldn't understand the name Tomer said...
Donovan Simmons Draw-Go. The type of deck that does everything on the opponent's turn.
I don't want Richard to win all the games but I'm also a huge Aristocrats nut in all formats, so I'm on team Richard for this one
I think that the people who make the decks should write a primer on how to use them properly. This was a bit painful to watch, although Seth once again sabotaging Vince was hilarious, especially after Vince refrained from doing the same to Seth earlier. Pure gold.
Tomer's bluffing skill has come a long way.
i love tomer. I don't have a wrath! has nev's disk in hand. I don't have an answer to teferi! has cryptic in hand and nev's disk and can counter the teferi on the way down with unwind. He complain a lot about youtube comments but seems to forget we ca see his hand.
Also RIP Mishra's self replicator. This was the perfect opportunity to see it go off but ;( no such luck. Good episode though! Love the ending.
Uh, unwind only hits sorcery and instants.
cyc rift is house banned in my circle
How many actual elder dragons are there?
Why didn't you take Mox Amber Tomer when you cast Board the Wetherlight?!?!?!?! Oh well...
Athreos has been bugged since may 6th. I don't regret cashing out a month ago.
What's the bug?
Doesn't return the creature from graveyard to hand. All of Richard's creatures that were dying would've been back in his hand (Vince would've been the target and probably wouldn't pay at 12 life). That means more life from Soul Sisters, more wrathing from Angel of Condemnation, more exiling from Leonin Relic-Warder, etc.
The whole deck is built around returning low-value creatures to recast over and over again. When you can't return the creatures, the deck loses it's focus.
Richard is a monster and his minions Seth and Tomer pay tribute by killing the people’s champion Vincent every week.
57:50. It looks like he is standing on a flying vehicle.
I don't think vince is whiny... I think that's his sense of humor.
Wonder if Athreos will get fixed now.
Only in my dreams son. :(
Athreos wasn't bugged when I played it in Modern
So many Mishra's Replicator copies missed by not playing it...
I agree with a soft ban on Cyclonic Rift!
Wait when did vice play ulamog I don't remember that episode
Derek Walsh It was the non Elder Dragon Core Set 19 video. :)
PleasantKenobi oh you right, I completely forgot about that one
Pun flavor text deck for tomer would be the greatest
Yes, you should soft ban Cyclonic Rift in Commander Clash. It reduces the fun of three of the players and thus negatively affects the viewer experience. I only run it in one group hug in paper magic and only if I can kill everyone after bouncing their boards. I don't like adding an extra hour to the game.
Could you link the decklists please?
We forgot to put it in the description originally. Here you go: www.mtggoldfish.com/articles/commander-clash-s5-e5-viewer-submitted-decks-athreos-vs-gahiji-vs-inalla-vs-raff
Cyclonic rift is a cool card. Ban it. Don't ban it. I'm fine with either. By the way, where can I find your soft ban list?
There isn't really one, but from what I can remember, it's sol ring, mystic remora, mana crypt, mana vault and hopefully now cyclonic rift.
It's on the end of one of the mtg goldfish articles.. Don't ban rift
One white Mana, 3/3 (or higher) cleric? You mean Serra Ascendant?
monk, not cleric.
ahh, you right. I wouldn't have put it past being there, though.
Aetherflux Reservoir is such a cheese card.
Meh
Weird Athreos doesn't work, I played cleric tribal with him and he worked fine like 4-6 months ago.
yeah he stopped working about may this year
Hopefully they get around to fixing Him and Avacynn, but I wouldn't keep my hopes up. :(
Darn. I had wasteland, not stripmine
46:00 why did Tomer decide to just not do anything else in his turn?? o.O
man poor vince gets hated out and then is blamed for letting richard win after a single spite maze
could you do 30 dollards budjet deck. I think that could be a good idea for new player.
ambroise beaucaire previous seasons has a budget for each deck. This season there is no budget
but it was not a super restrictive budjet. I want to know what they can do with that kind of restriction
it's a way to soft ban cyclonic rift
ambroise beaucaire you should check out the goldfish website. Tomer has a lot of articles on budget decks.
Next week's deck are budget (1 ticket on Magic Online), and I'm sure we'll do more budget themes in the future.
Patron wizard looks like Sheev Palpatine
Hears broken cards looks at episode time o God
I am against soft banning cyclonic rift because its a staple piece in blue decks. It doesn't even just win the game out right when its cast.
