Would love to see an update to this, especially how to make the Sharwood version better ! and yes, I'm binge watching your videos haha you guys genuinely make me smile
Made me smile, this snowy Sunday. Please please please post more content, absolutely Love your channel. You make such a great team, love your mum's nonchalance and your Passion makes great content. Ps did you throw a Pepper at a fence, or was I seeing things!
So glad some one liked this, was worried it was abit out there. and know I threw a pepper at the fence, i'm 100% idiot and 10% idiot :) thanks for the lovely words though :)
Ziang's Oriential Food Workshop Love it! Ps camera lens needs sorting. Not sure if a micro cotton, wiping lens would sort that or you 'cranked up' stoves and hobs before hand, causing 'steamed effect'... not a criticism, just want to help.
Do you mean at the start? because i've noticed this, it because of a light rig I have used for photography, its causes this misty effect. I try to fix it in the software I use but it always courpts the orignal video so every movement looks wavey. If I don't have the light on it really dark, I can't win! Hopefully when we get back to the shop we can flim in there as the lighting is way better. but thanks for the feeback! :)
we're starting a new channel called "chin and choo reviews" where we review the main stream western brand and oriental brands, also we will review takeaways soon too, just for fun, wanted to keep this stuff separate from the recipes :)
Have you's tried the Goldfish Brand chinese sweet and sour concentrate paste yet ? I normally make my own but have just bought some direct from goldfish sauces to try it.
Hi Guy's, just seen this vid, must have missed it somehow, Anyway good test, I also hate blue dragon stuff with a passion, not really surprising that Sherwood's came out on top. Have never thought to add other stuff before, good idea, Looking forward to next vid and see what you do with the Sherwood's

I am still trying to work out how to make your recipe Sweet & Sour sauce but in a small quantity instead of 5litres (Just over one gallon) of the stuff. Good review, I have always used Uncle Bens but might try Sharwoods. Keep up the good work!
@@ZiangsFoodWorkshop Ha ha ha ha it's not that easy since you don't give exact volumes in your recipe young man! But yes I take your point. Taste testing as I go along will get me the flavour and recipe I need to keep.
@@ZiangsFoodWorkshop Expereince in cooking very often means one can judge volumes wihtout the need to measure. I have never tried cooking Chinese or other oriental foods but I really like them. I reckon I can master Sweet & Sour sauce to suit my tsate in due course. Your video has set me on the trail. Other videos on the sauce are just making junk sauce made from vinager, food colouring a corn flour and not much more. You however, have shown me the way!

You both make me laugh, that was very entertaining, I’m 100 with you both on blue dragon it sounds soo puka, I’ve never found anything of that brand worth the package it comes in. Now kikkoman soy, boy I could drink that on its own, unless it’s changed I believe it has or used to have an alcohol content. A very complex taste. Japanese I believe, I’ve not used it for a while but when I did I would buy it in the plastic container and decant into the lovely table bottle. My favourite if you can call it favourite is uncle Ben. It’s emergency or holiday self catering only I prefer hand made any day. I like your selves would prefer it just as a plain sauce that you can add fresh to. I think the description your looking for here is it tastes like the contents of a dustbin. Not that I’ve sunk that low yet.. lol great video
We've got a few more in the works too, I think black bean sauces are next, these really were fun to do and looking forward to more now mum has relaxed in front of the camera a little bit. I'll reply to your email soon, I've read them but haven't had the time to reply fully, but in our main sweet & sour we do use cinnamon bark, however in the quick version I leave it out as its more of a base stock for dishes like Kong po or the crispy beef, the cinnamon can get lost with such powerful flavours, having said that it won't hurt to put it in.
If needed in a hurry a decent recipe for Sweet & Sour sauce can be found in a book by The Dumpling Sisters (Amy & Julie Zhang) much better than any of the shop bought jars.
@@ZiangsFoodWorkshop I have got your excellent book, what I meant was if a small amount is needed in a hurry it is a good alternative and far better than the shit that the supermarket sells.

Yay! Been waiting for this one! Interesting! If you're stuck for someone to come and eat all your food for tasting and research purposes I'm willing to selflessly sacrifice my time haha! Have gob, will travel. Fun video as always. Keep it up!
Thanks so much for this. I've never tried commercial brands as it's rare their recipe depts. come up with anything authentic tasting (I've never, ever, tasted sesame oil in fried rice from a restaurant or takeaway for example, but supermarkets seem to keep adding it). But I'm surprised you're using Kikkoman soy sauce as a condiment as it's so different in taste to chinese style soy sauces (not keen on it at all for chinese meals even tho it's properly fermented etc) . Maybe on a taste test you shouldn't use condiments anyway as they'd make the test a bit invalid. Think you're both great. Keep at it xxxx
It's technically light soy so more salt than anything else, and only make it in vaild if we handy used it with actual sweet and sour, which we have so we know the taste as it should, also this was just a bit of fun so not to be taken too seriously 😊😊😊😊
As a student I did like The Blue Dragon Lemon Sauce and Szechuan Tomato Sauce. this was in the mid to late 90's, before recipe changes probably taste shocking now lol. But the Sweet n Sour was always bad lol
@@ZiangsFoodWorkshop From what I remember the lemon was quite zesty and the Szechuan was spicy, but as with all things of old they change the recipe, as I just make my own from scratch now lol
Fun Video again Chin/Choo 😊 👍 But suffering for your passion, taste testing rubbish sauces. The other supermarkets you can’t access are not much better! Aldi and Lidl own brands have some very poor products! I like LKK or Mae Ploy plum if I need a quick fix.
