  • With MARM's first Ultra at the Wychavon Way only days away, he calls in for emergency help.
But has he left it too little, too late?
Will the advice make all the difference?
    Was MARM even listening?
Regardless, this is a lovely video. Last of the Summer Wine.

This has quickly become one of my favourite channels. Anyone who enjoys the newer videos and hasn't been through the older ones should have a look. I've been practically wetting myself with laughter on several occasions. Best of luck with the ultra! 👍🏻💪

Sorry to be 'that' person but I'm old so I will, you were having an important dialogue with your mentor and it was getting drowned out by a god awful racket in the back ground. Why oh why do people think music and running are a match made it heaven. Love your work regardless.

In 1959 Duane Eddy, who had never heard of Wychavon ( a bit like MARM ) recorded prophetically “ 40 miles of Bad Road “ 40 miles of any road anywhere is a challenge. Lasse Viren’s ( the famous Finnish long distance runner ) fitness prior to long distant races was often in doubt, but the Finnish press never wavered in their support “ Viren will be ready” MARM will be ready - Wychavon - Bring it on !

I can definitely second getting yourself a set of poles. The most popular are black diamond carbon z poles or leki trail running poles. Both a bit pricey but harrier trail running do a great value carbon (or even cheaper non-carbon pole) Loyd from run4adventure is so confident with this brand that he’s opting for a set of harrier poles on the Arc of Attrition this weekend.
I’m sure you’ll have a great time on the Wychavon Way! I ran it a few years ago and unless the route has changed, or the farmer has gained a conscience then get ready to wade through the stinky cow slurry farm just before Abberton 🤢 Apart from that it’s a beautiful route 😁

    • @middleagedrunningman
      @middleagedrunningman  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Really enjoyed reading this. (Apart from the slurry) I’ve looked at a few things from Harrier. Won’t need much persuasion to get the wallet out.
They will fit nicely in my new bag.

I ran a solo 50 miler in 2019 at the start of my running journey after stopping playing football. I literally just went out and ran 50 miles and I was so naive that I thought I'd be able to smash it, after not running more than 20 miles previously. I did it in 9hrs 15mins, but it was absolutely horrific and I was in so much pain.
You've got a lot more miles in your legs than I had, so I'm sure that you will be fine.
Making sure you are fuelled up before and during the race is super important so that you dhit the wall.

All over the carb loading. Should be fun.
Won’t lie, read your first paragraph and was perturbed. The message I’m getting is that I should be ok…..(isn’t it?)

Get yourself some running poles! You will be grateful for them towards the end of your race! You will need them for your 100 miler! But you need to practice with them first 😊
Start increasing your carbs a few days before, don’t try anything new on race day and go and enjoy 😉 good luck! Can’t wait to see the vlog!

You (that's a general you - everyone's gut is different...) can have porridge, just eat it far enough in advance that you aren't running with a full stomach. Normal early breakfast, then top up on gels/carb rich drinks as race time gets nearer.
Don't do anything new on race day, if you haven't trained with it don't do it!! Carb load, cut back on fibre, start hydrated. Don't take advice from strangers on TH-cam... 😅 (I'm a dietitian who runs ultras). Looking forwards to seeing how you get on!
