    Enjoyed that landing Capt! You seem to have a very good technique with the flare (as shown in other videos too) because the VSI shows almost less than 200fpm on touchdown, even with the rapid initial radio altimeter callouts. Hello from SIN/WSSS.

    • @ApproachandDepartureVideos

      Thanks for watching and for sharing your observations in regard to the landing! With the A321, we have to start the flare a little earlier as in the A319 or A320. Greetings to Singapore!

      @@ApproachandDepartureVideos By the way Capt, I noticed baro minimums was removed from the PFD when changing from VOR24-Z to VOR24-Y at 14:20, after approach checklist - so baro ref. was not gone through again. But good that you noticed it at 20:36 too.

    • @ApproachandDepartureVideos

      When changing the approach in the MCDU, the previously entered minimum is automatically deleted. This is true, even if the minimum does not change, like between the Z- and the Y-approach. We did not re-enter the minimum. Here we requested and flew a visual approach. A visual approach has no real minimum because you can only request a visual approach when you have the runway / airport in sight. Most of the time, we keep the entered minimum from the original approach also when we fly a visual approach.

  • @rabidbigdog

    Boeing pilots often speak about how Airbus pilots don't get to 'feel' the aircraft, but I wonder can you tell that you are in control of an A321 rather than say a A319? I guess notice the mass difference or is that all 'hidden' with the control systems and limits. Wonderful as always!

    • @ApproachandDepartureVideos

      Thanks for the good feedback and your question! Yes, controlling an A321 is a little different than flying an A319. The A321 is heavier and flies more stable. Especially during crosswinds. Because of the additional mass, the flare must be initiated earlier in an A321.

    Another excellent video. Two questions: 1. @8.40, the heading on the Navigation Display shows 100. What is the little arrow with a triangle at 105 degrees? 2. @ 13:50, the Captain says "We need to change it to the Yankee", what does this signify? Thanks.

    • @ApproachandDepartureVideos

      Thanks for watching and for your support of the channel as a member! The little arrow with a triangle at 105 degrees points to VOR 1. It is called RMI or radio magnetic indicator. I said that we have to change the entered approach from the VOR Z to the VOR Y approach because we originally prepared the VOR Z approach. They are a little different in regard to the descent profile and have a different missed approach. At the end it did not matter because we flew - as requested - a visual approach.

    • @tomstravels520

      VAPP should be VLS +5 in calm winds. The VLS according to the PFD was slightly higher than the FMS so they add 5 knots to the VAPP to keep that +5 rule

    • @ApproachandDepartureVideos

      Thanks for watching and your support of the channel as a member! We use Mach number when we cruise in the optimum cruise level, like FL 350 or so. At the so called "crossover altitude" there is the switch done and our target speed changes to a Mach number or vice versa during a descent. It is usually somewhere between FL 250 and FL 300.

      This was a visual approach. Visual approaches are usually flown without flight directors. Instead, they are flown with visual reference to the airport, runway and other traffic. Some airports require that visual approaches or circling maneuvers are flown on prescribed tracks. Those approaches are usually flown with flight directors as long as they are stored in our database. But even with those visual approaches, the main reference has to be the outside view.
