Am LOVING replaying this fantastic gem all over again in HD. It's amazing how sharp and new everything looks all over again. If this mod could be made compatible with crossfire or other mods I will be in heaven, but probably not. I assume all the mods would have to be re-textured in HD or something. Nice to see video of this online, time to play it again!
Even with all the other space games on the market, I think if they ever did a straight up remake of Freelancer with modern graphics it would do well. I've played tons of other space games and many were good, but none ever really clicked with me the way that FL did.
You can see the influence on many games like the X- series games, and naturally, SQ42 here. It's remarkable what the modders have done with a 20+ year old game! It deserved a sequel, but business is business.
Help me out here, was there another game by this name some years or so prior? I seem to remember a game by this name, but not a space themed game just around the release of win 95 Edit, I was looking for another game Freelander, really old, cant seem to find much info on it.
It's 20 years old by now. And I don't think it's on steam, but you can dowload it from abandonware, make sure you get the HD mod for it too, while the game runs well on modern systems, it does not support higher resolutions, and the mod fixes it.
It's well worth downloading, there are links for the original game image and the HD mod in the video description. There are also some great mods and total conversions with very active servers out there too once you get tired of the single player, if you ever do. It's a fantastic game.
Hello, I was wondering if someone could please provide me a link of the full Discovery 4.87 files because there are waaaaay more great systems to explore and I know how to run it without any issues. Thanks :)
We still have all of the older versions uploaded on our ModDB page - .87 is available there. You'll need to run the game directly through the EXE however, as the launcher will automatically attempt to patch your game to the current version.
