My poor swimming ability could never let me anywhere near those gigantic waves. However, next time I'm in Tokyo I might just be the daredevil...I'll need to take some more serious swimming and surfing lessons though. Those are the most beautiful waves I've ever seen.

In japan they sell many car models that are not available in other parts of the world. Typically, very cube-like vans and hatchbacks, to maximise convenience. I bet they drive like sponge tho
Wow, is this normal for Niijima island or some weather anomaly? I don't surf, but was on a beach once in Chiba, and I couldn't understand why surfers bothered to surf there. I was told Chiba was always like that. I assumed a country with as much coastline as Japan had to have better surfing.

The only beach in Japan that hasn't been altered by man. When you look at the coastline of Japan on google maps it's an environmental disaster. How have they got away with it. Someone made serious money concreting every beach, harbour, bay. One of the most indebted countries in the world. Looks like they used the money to concrete the coastline of Japan.
@@stuarthayward2220 uh probably better than if they didn't have any shoreline protection? And I don't know what that guy is talking about, Japan has tons of coastline that isn't "concreted". However Japan has very hilly topography and is densely developed and populated, forcing population near to the coast, and yes they face powerful typhoons and tsunamis so of course they protect some areas with breakwaters etc. As for indebtedness, who cares people are willing to buy their debt at very low rates, and it is the result of the Japanese government trying to stimulate the economy despite low birthrates. Japan 🇯🇵 is a model country in many ways, including the way they approach dealing with low native birthrates. Low birthrates is the final destination of all developed countries, once they stop trying to continually replace and grow their population with people from countries with higher birthrates. Japan is a great country! 🇯🇵

Been here 11 years now and I’m still amazed at how much they’ve altered the coastline as well, though I’ve since found a few unspoiled nooks.
I think being prone to Tsunamis had a hand in that.
