"The little mission down south to warm water came around as a bit of a surprise to me too, I’d originally planned to just spend a week or two with my girlfriend Aiyana in California and pictured surfing knee to waist high Malibu at best.
One idea led to another as most good times do and before we really knew it Aiyana and I were rolling south of where we were currently camped out driving in awe through these beautiful snow capped mountains in the Eastern Sierras on a pretty straight mission south to a serious contrast of scenes, we were pretty excited!
A good mate Perry Gershkow was able to juggle a few commitments around up in his neck of the woods of SF and before we really had too much time to think we kind of just woke up the next day deep in central America, it was a classic little scenario.
I was travelling with two surf boards, a 7’2 and a 6’10. It’s so rare that I break a board, maybe one or two a year? anyhow I managed to break them both in the first couple of days.I guess I was rattled and disheartened when the first broke and then when the second went, I was kind of just baffled like haha really? luckily the local guys there have probably stitched together more boards than anyone anywhere else in the world so it was a pretty efficient little turn around, I was so grateful for that. Thankfully my mate Luke lent me his little 5’7 and a 4’11 for a little wiggle in between.
The waves we had down there were absolutely incredible, sort of mind boggling at times. It’s humbling the energy in the ocean and the way the sand and currents dictated where and what waves we surfed. They were there one day and gone the next. I think that was the beauty of it too, we didn’t really have any expectations or too much of a plan, things just fell in to place and I wouldn’t change a thing.
For me it was one of those spontaneous experiences made up of the combination of good people, the land, weather and a little luck on our side that are a friendly little reminder of just how lucky we all are to have this to share.

I know this is video is sponsored by a gear brand, but it I appreciate how much less commercial the focus is compared to a typical surf film. No stickers on the board, and needessentials just makes unpretentious quality surf gear instead of flip flops you buy at the mall (looking at you quiksilver and billabong). I would pay a small monthly fee to support somebody like Torren making films. To everyone who finds this video so refreshing: we need to support economic models that better reflect our values!

absolutely hypnotic. for some reason when I was watching it I started thinking that regular thruster surfing, with the constant aggressive tricks is really just an immature version of something like this, which seems more like art. almost dancing with the wave instead of attacking it. great style, great music, nice spots and good waves

Yeah like that style almost forces everyone into one small box. No doubt it's very impressive and worthy of praise and sponsorships and fame but this is the real unadulterated thing right here.

Torren rides with humility. Every time I watch this guy I gain nothing but respect for his surfing demeanor and creativity.
It is just so damn refreshing to see a surfer with true style. There is great beauty, elegance and freedom in just enjoying what waves give us, rather than trying to slash them to bits. Watching Torren surf enables you to see the true beauty of the union between the ocean and humans - instead of feeling like you are watching a WCF match.

So refreshing to see this caliber of style and soul. This is how surfing should be done. I had never heard of Torren Martyn before stumbling across this clip. Style savant extraordinaire. I`ll make no comparisons. Individual and unique. Someone give this young man an award.
Torren,s surfing in Mexico in the last section is pure bliss.That dance that only a surfer knows the feeling of having with a wave is connection to nature on a spiritual level.The synchronicity between man and nature that nothing on earth can rival.A man riding on a wave of kinetic energy and the man's kinetic energy riding the wave creates a connection with nature that nothing comes close to topping that.
I could watch torren rip all day...such elegant and smooth lines....nothing forced ....such grace ....reminds my of the legends of old

Was lovin' the waves and your style on that 7'2". Then at 02:49 the look on your face is exactly how I felt for you and your board when I saw it (i of coarse was affixed on the board first. Then rewind to see your expression). And then the other board after that! Sheesh! So far away and in such a short time.
I did the same with my first custom board (by Russel Hoyte). It was on my second time surfing it and it snapped in half. "Rusty" felt bad for me because we had only made a down payment on it. He leant me one of his apoxies and I broke it on my second wave. We still had to pay off the first board but he let me off on the apoxy.
At least you got some AMAZING footage on that 7'2" before it broke. Dream board . . . !
