  • We discuss arrow spine and thing which effect the spine of the arrow and how it will shoot. We discuss how weight of the arrow changes the spine. We discuss how point weight and point you choose changes the arrow spine choice. We also discuss the choice of limbs or Cams on the arrow spine you will choose.
Last we discuss the scores I have shot with the same spined arrows and why the scores vary.

Im shooting my compound bow set for 59 lbs @ 29" draw.
Anything from 400 to 320 spine seems to shoot fine.
    Thanks for the video.
    Appreciated

Thanks for sharing Steve love the content, also length has a lot to do with choosing a proper spine.

I've found that spine has to match the deflection required by the bow based on nock travel, rest position, acceleration rate, etc. An arrow that is not lined up with the nock travel will deflect more, which may be necessary for certain setups. If there's no deviation from nock travel and riser torque, you may not have a "too stiff" condition (unless you have an expensive accelerometer or a high speed camera with grid pattern background, you can't check this).
The back inch of the arrow still has to accelerate the front of the arrow including the point. The acceleration increases the force applied to the back of the arrow. A heavy GPI with 100gr points will behave weaker than a lighter GPI arrow of the same point weight, despite the higher FOC.

My testing of point weight vs spine matches your result.

Any discussion on different “spine” between brands?..

I shoot Easton axis 5mm 340 spine 3 thousand straightness .out of my Mathews V3X 29 at 65# 29 inch draw. They fly great. 420 grains. They are awesome .

indoor i'm using the x23 2318 with 250gr points & 4" gas pro spin vanes for barebow. Outdoor short distance (25&30m) i use the same indoor bow setup but with a 300 spine skylon brux.
50m barebow i'm really loving the icepoints, paragons are good aswell at 350 spine. i really want to try the elite xt's pandarus has and maybe the ca320's if i can get my recurve game up to snuff.
As for limbs i'm really loving the titan ex's i just got. really give me that hard wall at full draw, i'm using my gillo gt 27 to get that wall exactly at full draw. I tried them on a 25" riser aswell and holy moly those are just a beast to draw at 70" compared to 72".

My experience was than also you have to consider the FPS of the bow, Poundage, spine length, point weight, and FOC. 😉

Base on my research, various manufacturers will have varying recipes for their carbon shafts.
There are varying carbon to resin ratio. Also, some manufacturers claim they use carbon fabric weaves in their shaft.
Not all 500 spine are built the same

OMG discuss those vanes. They are what I’ve been imagining I would like to try. I shoot longbow and Hoyt compound. Do they come in fletch for trad and would it be too much curve for compound speed?
And the colors of vanes look metallic or pearl?
    Like a kids windmill toy

I think people are confused about the draw weight being a hard measurement it is not it’s just what we use to get a ballpark on how hard it is to draw it back
Arrow spine is mostly dependent on how long any given arrow is I wanted to drop my pulling weight on my bow from 70 to as low as I could get it and I frond that when I used a uncut arrow at 32” I could drop my bow weight to 25lbs with the same 340 spine arrow just left it long.

imo, point weight tune is only practical with ID6.2mm or screw-in tips..

Finding the right arrows and vane setup for a recurve bow can be just a right pain in the ass.

Get a high speed camera and record your shots. Would love to see the difference in flex. You may need to win the lottery first. Thanks for sharing your experience.
