  • Hey guys my name is Masud and in today’s video, I’ll be discussing the difference between a sports therapist and a physiotherapist.
    Many times it is confused which one does what and I can understand why as their roles interlap.
    The main difference between a sports therapist and a physiotherapist is that a physiotherapist comes from a medical background having worked in the hospital they are more able to treat a wider array of patient groups such as respiratory, neurological and musculoskeletal conditions alongside other niche areas.
    A sports therapist has a very similar skill set in that they can assess, diagnose, create treatment programs for patients however their role is limited just to the musculoskeletal patient group.
    They’re more likely to be involved with a sports club of some kind as their skills relate to that area most.
    They still have to complete a 3 year degree from my understanding however their scope to practice as therapists is more limited compared with a physios.
    Physiotherapy as you may know is a very broad profession and there are different areas of it the make it up as discussed and so because of this physios generally choose to specialise in one area after they’ve qualified and completed the relevant training in all of the main areas as a student, most often in a clinical placement in a hospital or other community clinical setting.
    Hope that helps to clear things up guys.
    Thanks for watching!

    As someone who has finished a degree in sports therapy and rehab, sports therapy is more specialised towards sporting injuries.

    Sports therapists are highly trained and skilled and can see a wide variety of MSK issues. Usually more so than a physio!

    Hi
    Thank you for your video that really helps explaining.
    I am 18 years old going into university in September I applied for physiotherapy to all my universities however they all gave me sport and exercise therapy due to the fact that the modules such as massage therapy in college was not there (mainly because of COVID), I’ve got a person who is in university that is doing sport and exercise therapy and sport science then going straight into a masters in physiotherapy
    Would you say that good for my age.
    All I can say is that it is the only options I have.

    I work as a sports therapist and the way I always describe it is as follows: Both professions share most of their knowledge, both have a very good understanding of MSK and Neurological pathologies. Where the differ is that Physiotherapists are trained in both Cardiac and Respiratory pathologies and the necessary modalities to treat them. I shared nearly all my classes with the Physio cohort when I was at university. on a side note I really wish Sports therapy was more widely recognized and was HCPC protected. To say the profession lacks evidence on which to base its clinical practice is BS when we have the same knowledge base as Physios

      Hey dude,
      There’s probably a reason why - either grades or something else. Best thing to do is ask why? , maybe get some feedback on your application for more clarity.
      Then you can plan your next move better

    • @SB-qt8qj
      @SB-qt8qj 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@masudsaeediphysiotherapy8689On the email they sent me they said it was because the places are limited and I think it could be grades. I still have 2 other unis to have an interview with. I'm not sure if I want to do sports therapy since I have been planning to study physiotherapy at uni.

    • @masudsaeediphysiotherapy8689
      @masudsaeediphysiotherapy8689  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hmm , well if the places are limited then that doesn’t give any specific feedback to you so either there were (supposedly) people who performed better in that part of the application process or something else but I would keep pushing for individual feedback.
      If you wrote your personal statement geared towards studying physio, it should be clear and I don’t see the reason to accept to study sports therapy unless there is something I’m missing?..
      See what the other 2 say and just keep your ears open about other unis during results day and later down the year there may be unis who may change their mind due to lack of demand (not common but it’s a possibility).

      Hi Nik, you could certainly work in the NHS but not as a band 5 physiotherapist. You would need to pass a physiotherapist degree for that.
