  • A look at a music player with a lot of features from Parts Express. Is it good or just more cheap rubbish? Watch and find out.
    Note: I said 4.64mv output when it is 464mv

    Look at that automotive dashboard like styling and that screw down flange. This is likely not an unfinished product, but an MP3 retrofit kit for early 2000s cars with a fat useless cassette baffle + controls section and without exposed DIN section, so you can take out interfering parts, make an ugly hole, stick this over, and it'll be fine, and you can reuse existing amplifier which is important when you want to retain trip computer and other such original touches. Apparently someone makes quite a lof of these in Shenzhen area, they're all over Aliexpress too.

    Looks pretty decent, perfect match for a home made amp.

    It's clearly intended for RV use. 12v, low profile, no security... and requires an outside switch.

    What's the main chip number? You can get a smaller but similar player to these for around $4, would be interesting to see how the very cheap ones compare, they have the same features right down to the 7805 regulator.

      OK totally different then. That chip is at least from a recognised vendor. The one I have is something like 'JTL' and is an all in one, single chip solution. I haven't really tested it, I know it works but I managed to lose the remote and haven't done anything with it in months. I've bought a couple of other, similar very cheap modules and will do some basic tests on them and report back in a few weeks.
      It's quite amazing how much tech they're building into what must be $1 ICs these days!

    Trying to hard wire this to bathroom switch with 12v transformer but my question is I mainly want this as a radio player when switch is flipped when unit powers on does it always start up on Bluetooth first or if u leave it on radio mode will it remember it’s on radio mode or will it go back to Bluetooth I don’t want something that I have to keep pressing source all the time when power comes on

    I know nearly nothing about electronics. however I am trying to learn what I can. anyway... to the point. would it be possible to use the cheap remote control that comes with it. and add a touch screen. and what ever micro controller . to make a remote that kinda looks like a smart phone. or a small tablet? would that be a worthy project? or more trouble than its worth. or does someone make them already.

    Do you think I can replace that regulator for a LM7812 to lower the PSU 24v tension to the 12v that the device supports? Thank you.

    • @benhoffman7672
      @benhoffman7672 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It looks like the linear regulator it is using is an ST 78M05. If that is the case, it input voltage is good up to a maximum of 35VDC. The being said, the 12VDC input voltage maximum could very well be due to the regulators package not being about to dissipate the power it would need to for worse case operation with input voltages greater than 12VDCvoltages maximum

    • @benhoffman7672
      @benhoffman7672 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Here is a link to the regulator datasheet: www.st.com/content/ccc/resource/technical/document/datasheet/d7/5f/dc/5c/d5/b6/48/7c/CD00000447.pdf/files/CD00000447.pdf/jcr:content/translations/en.CD00000447.pdf

    • @benhoffman7672
      @benhoffman7672 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In my previous reply I gave you a possible solution, but to answer your question, no you could not just REPLACE the regulator with a 7812. Doing so would allow up to 12VDC to be applied to circuitry that was most likely designed to handle only 5VDC. Now you could supply the input power to the 78M05 from a 7812, and power it from your 24VDC source, but it would require an external circuit board. Adding a series input power resistor would be so much simpler, providing your 24 VDC input voltage source is rather constant. If you still want a wider input operating range, such as 12 to 24 VDC, then the resistor solution won't work (at least not reliabley).

      Thanks for the reply. Yeah, I thought about that after posting the previous comment. I could run it through a class d amp with volume control or something similar. Would you happen to know if the player unit has connections on the pcb for a potentiometer ? That would be convenient...
