Michael McDonald and Daryl Hall together my two favorite male vocalist of all time singing together. It’s a dream come true for me. I’ve seen them both perform numerous times and always wished that they would collaborate and at least for this song they did.
They're mine too! Although Michael has lost most of that great voice of his where Daryl still sounds awesome for a guy in his 70's. Most vocalists lose their voices by the time they're 60. Sadly 😒
@@lolabean941 I am a huge fan of both too! The difference is diction! Daryl pronounces everything clearly, even when they’re riffing at the end. Michael just emotes! I have no idea what he’s saying…but it sounds great! 🤣
I have so many great memories, attached to that song and the time period in my life, when that album, dropped...just makes me smile. And if I REALLY think about specific memories assoiciated with Doobie Brothers music, I can almost bring myself to tears. Lets just say, life was WAYYYYYY more enjoyable, then...life has become so damn serious, these days. "What A Fool Believes' reminds me of going to the roller skating rink on Friday or Saturday night, with cousins, during the late 70s...it reminds me of driving from our home in Wash, DC to Ocean City Beach in 1978 and '79 with my family. .it reminds me of going to the annual boat show, Id go to with my stepfather in Annapolis Harbor/MD, in the late 70s...it reminds me of Summers spent on road trips to Kings Dominion and Buch Gardens in Virginia...it reminds me of pool halls Id hang out in, when I was in the military, stationed in the Bay Area...and a certain someone I walked across the Golden Gate Bridge with one chilly night in 1986, after we got off from our bartending gigs in Saulsalito. He was a HUGE Doobie Bros fan, and we must have sung "What A Fool Believes" from one side of that bridge all the way into the Marina District/San Francisco...it reminds me of going to see the Doobie Brothers, at Red Rocks Amphitheater near Denver, in 1987.. ..and all the craziness and shenangans that ensued after the show with 5 buddies of yours truly at a hotel, downtown Denver....lets just say, my oratory skills kept us from getting thrown out of no less that 3 bars that night!🙄...BIG thanks to the Doobie Bros, for being a part of my life soundtrack.
Except when he sang this with Kenny Loggins. Loggins was especially great. But I feel ya. McDonald is also unique and great. I really don't love the texture of Darryl Hall's voice on this song, but for his own songs, Solid.
