he has been called the best drummer of rock and roll which pretty much makes him the the best drummer to have ever lived neil peart is epic along with rush
If i can think of the most beautiful sounding cymbal on his set, would most surely be his ride... It sounds so amazing, and he utilizes it so darn well.
Oh, the Rush concert memories!!! This is Neil's practice strength here in this video. In concert even with all amps at high volume, you could still hear Neil's drums in front of you in the first 20 rows louder than through the sound system. Neil hit drums with precision but always with extremely hard power with the thickest drum sticks and only with a delicate touch at specific times in songs.
Neil didn't just keep the beat on a song. He set it. Each person in Rush is incredible in their own right, but when they all come together you hear perfection. Some people say that John Bonham is the greatest drummer ever. Bonzo sure could bang the drums. But I believe his range was limited. Neil went beyond the drums and included any percussion instrument he could work into a song. He worked at his craft. Notice in the video he is using a different grip and drumming style than he normally does on previous work. He did that change in style/technique because he wanted to get better at his craft. He did it after he played at the Buddy Rich concert one year and felt he didn't give his best performance. That's why he is the best, the never ending quest for perfection. He was "Driven".
a lot of ppl say that he is not the best and I respet that (obviously I think HE is the best aff ALL times) but to the ppl in general: Being a good drummer doesent depend on how fast you are, or how cool you can play with the sticks. Its about THE SOUND that goes WITH THE SONG the rest of the band is playing. Neil invented such nice drum phrases that other drummers cant even invent. He OWNS
CORRECTION: alot of people think he is not the best drummer I respectfully DISAGREE He has been called the best drummer of rock and roll through out so many rock radio stations top 100s and stuff...accept the truth people
His snare roll at 2:55 is so smooth!!! Keeping it simple and technical is what gives Peart his title. Long live live Pratt!!! (If you knew Rush's nicknames you'd know who Pratt is)
Great mix and video. I like it that we can see and hear more closely what he does. I never noticed how in the stanzas he alternated 4 snare beats with 3 snare beats.
This was right after he did "Burning for Buddy". So, if you look at his left hand, he is really trying to use a lot of Buddy Rich influences. That's why all of the ghost notes. I think he was trying to keep his chops up after having spent so much time studying the early greats. Plus, the ghost notes really help keep the whole rhythm tied together and grounded, especially in those odd meters. This track is not flashy (except for that snare roll), but truly encapsulates the latter technicality of what Neil was working on. To me, this track is a tribute to Buddy as well, only in Rock fashion. For that reason, this has been one of my favorite of the later albums.
@@jasonbittner You are entitled to your opinion, I've seen both live and have mine. Listen to this if you have a moment, th-cam.com/video/fULwDbZ4iSU/w-d-xo.html
Er...Nah, you know I was thinking about telling you that Paragon is a Sabian make but I figure you can just go do the leg work yourself. Cheers to Turkish cymbals!
Oh and I dunno how I'm getting thumbs down,i'm agreeing with Mike and am against drummer!Like,if you don't believe me look it up,Zildjian makes Paragon! They worked with Neil, these are his signature cymbals!I've been a drummer for 11 years and Neil is my favourite drummer,I know what i'm talking about.
Greatest ever and my friend too - I miss him everyday
you were friends with Neil?

you could tell he was really into this song.... one of rushes best in my opinion
the god of drums

That was the first thing Alex and Geddy noticed about Neil's playing: He hit the crap out of the drums.

Yep, Neil's entire career was spent by him working to get better...always...and he did exactly that.
He studied under Freddie Gruber, the Yoda of drums
Bonzo's only weakness was his short time on this earth....
The utter best. Period. Ever.

The state of the art; the gold standard.
El Sergei Prokofiev de la batería. Impresionante!!!
I don’t know if Neil’s modern setup ever sounded as good as it did in the TFE era.
great drummer, crushes

I saw one pixel touch another pixel. It was magic!
He is never pushed to 100% .. always seems to have all the time in the world...
Trekkie Ufo Makes it look easy for sure.
Yeah, he is careful go show technique for the camera here. When I watch the Rio live version of this, he took it up to another level. It’s awesome!
Ghost notes.... Love it

Thanks Neil!
best drummer!
dude, the guy whose drumming isn't the one put the video up..
the guy who is drumming is named Neil Peart and is the most technical drummer alive!
Yes, he still sounded the same after working with Gruber, but it no longer looked like he was straining against something. He smoothed it out.
subtle but, well, Driven !!!! wow....
Practically all of Test For Echo is ride cymbal dominate.
a god on earth!
neil, yo
your the shit!
@4:13 - see what he's doing with his right hand there? I sure wish I knew what that sounded like.
that is his set that stays where it is at all times he has tons of the same sets
that is awesome i just learned to play that on the drums right a fter i heard this vid i down loaded the song and played it (im only 13!!!!)
What kind of cymbals they are?
paragon is sabian cymbals. i have a pair of the 13inch hi hats.
y did u cut neil off at the end
42K views? Wow just wow
Since when does Neil do that thing with his head when he hits the snare??? I've never noticed before..........
Since literally ever. He does that since the ever first public appearance :O
I didn't make the video. I found it somewhere on the internet and uploaded it to TH-cam to make it available to a broader audience.
i like niko for iron maiden more but neil is a master of the drumms
its to catch his sweat
basically a head band
Ya I agree thats why I think Danny Carey of Tool gives Peart a run for his money
Chris Tillman not in a million years

That's a joke if I ever heard one
@@packerbacker64 In what way?
@@TillmanDanny is good but not that good. Way overstated
You taught me so much
After this tour, he said "Screw this traditional grip all the time" stuff
yea its a 22 ping ride its definetly has a ping to it every time he hits
haha he has a camera on his head?
smittybang no he doesn’t - it’s a bicycle helmet
the finished product is definetly better

THey seems to be without brand singns....lol
he was still using Zildjian at this time and maybe a Wuhan china.
Ted Striker2112 yes it was his usual setup - pre Sabian
Yeah but the radio sucks.
I miss you Neil

Sorry, Sabian make Paragon.
