Mate with your help I’ve gone from dressing the same way I did as a 19 year old crook to now finally dressing with a bit of class at the age of 40 it’s had a massive effect on my outlook and seriously helped me shake my old circle that wasn’t at all good for my future
I bought a pair of Crockett & Jones Alex recently which means I have more than spent this year’s style budget. However, I can still watch this channel as much as I want. Thank you. M.
It's not impossible to get decent shoes for $100 or a little more - Charles Tyrwhitt, Johnson & Murphy, Cole Haan if you like that sort of thing all make nice shoes that you can get for closer to $100 than $200 - and if you can find them on sale.... but the O.G. ain't lying, the first thing anyone checks out, man or woman, professional or personal, is the shoes.
+Henrik Eriksen Yup, I feel the same way. The only thing worse is when said $100 pair of shoes empties your bank account and then promptly falls apart as you're walking down the street. : (
I like Aldos. They're Canadian. They're very affordable, trending and up-to-date. I particularly love they're double monk straps. Check them out man, you might like what you see, most of their shoes are no more than $200. I got the double monk straps (Two pairs) for $80 a piece.
Style O.G. you give out all the tips my grandfather gave me. He never let me wear jeans as he called them field pants. That's what workers were to pick crops. The jeans game has changed now. A good pair of shoes will last 8-10 years if cared for. Thanks for keeping black men properly groomed and geared up.
Cole Hann Johnson and Murphy and Allen Edmond are my shoes of choose ever man should have are a pair of Wingtip Oxford, classic Toe Cap single Monk Strap and Classic Loafer
The brown shoe is soooo versatile that I've forgotten how to rock a black shoe! I almost feel out of place when wearing black shoes now. No idea how to dress them or even which pairs to look for. But to add to shoes, check out DSW for Austin Grey or Cole Haan. They're definitely not your $400 pair of shoes, but they're affordable and stylish. I've noticed normal wear, as you'd expect from a $100+ shoe, but the leathers tend to not crease as much as your average department store shoe in similar price ranges.
canibusnj There are many brands that are superior to Allen Edmonds (which aren’t too far above Allen Edmonds’ price point). Allen Edmonds I would say is the best as far as entry-level luxury shoe brands.
Over the fence and out the park...again! I like every point you make here. Goood job, OG. Im not laying 4 bills for kicks now but I get the principle regarding quality.. My collection is the tier below yours, bro, but very well cared for. I built a portable shoe stand and shined shoes when I was around 10 years old so I have skills. Keep doing what you're doing and we will all keep learning. Thanx.
Jeff love your vids and the energy and thought and research you put into them. I am an Allen Edmonds (AE) fan huge. I have three things to add to your vid. One - sales, my fav AE is the 5th Ave. In dark brown I just bought one pair for $199 usually $425 - look for sales AE does sales. Two - don’t over polish your shoe, condition the leather with something like Venetian Cream, this lets the colour take on more character over time. Thee - AE has a lot of lasts (lasts are the forms used to build the shoe and give it its shape. Before investing in a 20 to 30 year shoe take the time to study the lasts get advise from an AE store or an experienced shoe person, find the last that fits your foot perfectly. If you do that most people are going to get a result that’s 99.99% as good as bespoke pair of shoes. A perfect fit is a thing of beauty it lets you relax into your style because of the comfort. Take the time to get the right last then hold off buy, buy only when AE has sales. Follow Jeff’s advise look at other men and pick what you like what you think looks good to you. Then build a life time collection.
On point as always O.G. Great video! Thanks for setting the record straight. Now I'm off to buy me some handmade Italian full grain leather Goodyear welted brown shoes!
What do you think of long socks with loafers? It seems to not be generally done, but I don't like my ankles exposed (I get cold) and I also would really like to get a nice pair of penny loafers or tassel loafers.
I was wondering what your thought are on this. I decided to only wear the barefoot/minimalist soled shoes for feet health. The issue is, it's difficult to find dress shoes with a zero-drop sole that still look good. Have you looked at any of the dress options from Vivobarefoot and Tadeevo? I think the latter have developed the best dress shoes with a zero-drop.
Good video! Me personally, I am quite impressed with the quality of Loake (1880 range) and Barker. Good solid Northamptonshire quality. Not sure about the availavility in the U. S. though. I have a couple of models with a Dainite rubber sole, also goodyear welted, for the wetter season.
Great vid! You right about a more expensive shoe but fellas...sometimes you gotta fake it til you make it. There are a few designers that offer a quality shoe for the budget; Stacy Adams, Kenneth Cole (sometimes), and Ashton Grey. Follow his tips on upkeep and you should be alright.
One of your best vids yet! Allen Edmonds last FOREVER with just average care. $300 at an AE store. $199 at Nordstrom Rack, and if you live in the right area, you can sometimes find them at Marshall's for less than that. Magnanni is good as well for more of Euro style.
Got myself a Cole Haan double recently - English Tan Wingtips and a pair of whole cut. About 200USD each. Definately a step up to other cheap brands here in Malaysia.
I recommend for starters (170 - 220 USD): Meermin, Myrqvist, Loake And if you wanna spend a little more to get better quality leather/construction for around 250- 350 USD ... I'd recommend: TLB Mallorca, Carlos Santos, Lof and Tung, Cobbler Union
please make a video on square toed shoes , like if u have little flat toed it looks good , but u say its a total no no , so can u please tell me as to up to what size of flatness in the toe region may be fashionable , do a info video to ppl like me
Ok, advanced level question - say you're wearing a snazzy pair of white sneakers (I hear Adidas Stan Smiths are quite good - can't think where I may have picked that up from...) with a navy suit, or a dark blazer/chino combination - do you have to wear a white belt and look like an Italian Carabinieri or is this a time that suspenders are a discrete option?
Another great video, thank you Style OG! I'll admit, I have some growing up to do when it comes to my footwear. More dress shoes (collecting dust), less of my beloved sneakers. Salute!!
Did you heard about stretchable leather? Because im trying to get a belt with that material. I can share the brand that is in my mind if u want here. But i would like to know your opinion about it. That stretchable leather on shoes and jackets should be nice aswell.
Great video, Jeff. I have some personal favorites to share. I favor Allen Edmonds shoes in black, brown, tan, and oxblood. As far as styles, I like cap toe and brogue oxfords, brogue derby, and monk straps. I also favor AE boots. I shop the sales and the outlet on the AE website. Although every AE shoe I own retails for $395-$425 per pair, by shopping sales I am able to get them for significantly less. As far as build construction, they are top of the line and American made. If you take care of them and have them recrafted, they can last decades. I also like and own two pairs of Johnston & Murphy boots. With J&M you need to be careful that you are getting their higher end products with Goodyear welts. They can also be great shoes and are re-craftable. There are likely other good brands out there that I am not aware of. So, I'm not saying these are the only two brands to consider. I am saying they are worth considering. In my opinion, shoes are literally the foundation of style.
Another great video Jeff!! I’m stuck on Magnanni brand shoes. One reason is that you can get them in a leather and rubber sole. You can always find them on sale. A black pair of Chelseas and some brown double monks and I’m done tho.
I prefer a more elongated shoe with a narrow/chiseled toe than a very round toe. I ordered about 120$ worth of shoe care yesterday (well shoe trees represent half of that amount) and I can't wait to take care of my shoes for the first time (my collection just started and Thursday boots really was the "gateway drug"). I now have four pair of Thursday boots and 1 pair of Carmina Oxfords. I also ordered three pairs from Thursday New shoe line (loafers, wingtips and a captoe Oxford) and I'll 100% cop another pair of Carmina shoes later this year, probably double monks! This is only the beginning and I think I'll end up being a shoe addict with a wide variety of styles and colorways😂 Great video Jeff!
Great tips and review on a important topic Playa, especially when shoes and teeth are two of the first things a women will check out if they considering talking to a man. Salute...
I still rock my Stacy Adams, but i also wear mauri, belvedere, David x, farragamo, and more, all these shoes I have purchased a good price, last pairs on alligator world is one of my favorites, garment district in Los Angeles I got two pairs of eel skin and stingway slipons one brown and one gray, both for 300
The Underground Method hmmm...black because grey is a shade of black. Brown also works because grey is a neutral color. Why not just pick up a grey belt, or no belt?
I usually buy English shoes and have been very impressed with the quality of Cheaney shoes recently. They’re comparable in price to Allen Edmonds but the quality of the finishing is much higher. Loake is great for a more affordable shoe. Crockett & Jones is possibly the best English RTW shoemaker but I think their benchgrade is a little bit pricey now I have seen what Cheaney are offering at a lower price point.
All my dress shoes are Allen Edmonds and I get them at their discount outlet. I currently have 3 pair that I rotate. 1 dress boot (black) that I can dress down as well but also wear with a suit and 2 brown leather dress shoes one of which can be dressed up or down. At the outlet you can get either for around $150 range to $200 also DSW.
Absolutely love brown! Especially my double monk strap's! And I usually get my loafers n dress shoes from Steve Madden not a bad price and lasts long 4 years? Not too sure about that lol
Good points, although I'm rather curious how it's possible to wear one dress shoe about 30 times a year. I have enough dress shoes for each day of the week and I still wear each more than 30 times a year. How large is your collection?
Cole Haan dress shoes all the way. You can find really good deals on their dress shoes as they update the lines every year. You get comfort, support, grip and style with total quality (soles are replaceable). I am not a big fan of leather bottoms, but to each their own.
My dress shoes are a pair of Nun Bush oxfords I’ve been wearing an average of once a week for the last 20 or so. Paid less than $40 for them back then; the Bx is still carrying them for around $69. They were brown when I bought them but I’ve managed to polish them to a rich cordovan.
I'm always on my growman when it comes to shoes and my wife doesn't understand it. She thinks I'm always trying to impress other women. I don't let anything compromise me and my grown man style. From my hair, eyeglasses, timepiece, cufflinks, belt, socks and shoes. Keep on coming with the content my friend and Happy New Year's......
Amen to that. Ike, it took YEARS for my woman to start chillin' out because absolutely nothin' could stray me from my presentation and my goals too. I'm out here stayin' every bit as fly as I wanna be, and without I'll intent. Just a man on a mission, doing this thing the way it should done. I myself, don't even pay much mind to the current trends. There's absolutely no "scuba gear" in my suit collection. Well tailored, sure. But I love keepin' it classic. I have some more conservative stuff, as well as some wilder colors, etc. Depends on the occasion, and more importantly, what I want to do at that moment. O.G. and others like him are doing a service to alot of fellas out there, because it let's people know that they don't have to be scared going into this shit. For one, they are not alone in this journey. Two, they have more pride and respect coming to them as a by-product of upgrading their attire. Three, they'll see just how much fun it can be. There are guidelines, but the coolest thing for me is YOU GET TO CHOOSE how you want to do it. It's truly empowering. Keep doing what you're doing, rock those cufflinks and such. From Vegas, stay ol' school pimpin' 🍇😎🍇
*STYLEST of ALL the OGs and the only FORM of true FASHION!!! I like Magnani because they are hand crafted and quality for a decent price. I try to buy shoes made in Europe vs the ones made in China. But I make sure I catch them at outlets for discounts.* #SAALLLUUTTEEE!!
OG Jeff- you hip to Aldo shoes outta Canadia? Tell me your opinion of these shoes, I've noticed a few different style guys here on TH-cam dont really dig em but i love em.
Jos A Bank has good sales on shoes. I picked up a pair of black dress shoes regular price $250 for $80 . That brand and design were changing to the next season design.
Allen Edmonds and Magnanni are my go to brands for the nicest shoes and best quality. I get the most compliments when I’m wearing those. Ace Marks makes very nice shoes for an affordable price. They are an online retailer but they are great for compliments as well. The DSW brand warfield and grand are surprisingly nice for the money. They rarely go on sale but once you’ve seen a pair in person you’ll understand why. They are built very nicely. Stacy Adams also makes great shoes but they may not last as long as the aforementioned brands. But you can get some very appealing shoes for under 100 bucks and they’ll look like you spent a lot more. Cheaper brands like Steve Madden and Nunn Bush are nice for awhile but don’t expect them to hold up as long through normal wear and tear.
I completely agree with you. AE has a large variety of shoe styles, you just need to know the lasts that fit you best. Magnanni all appear to be the same shoe on different styles... NARROW, too narrow for my feet. I picked up a pair of Warfield and grand (had never heard of the Co) a couple weeks ago on sale. I was very impressed for the price; I ended up buying a second pair. I buy a lot of shoes and I wear them infrequently, so I refuse to spend $400-$500 pr on shoes.
I agree that square toe dress shoes really don't work so well with a formal suit or a tuxedo. They work better with more casual clothing like chino pants, an oxford shirt, a sweater vest, a polo shirt, jeans, and a flannel button up shirt. So really square toes are more of a dress casual shoe due to their big bulky shape.
Sorry, Jeff, but I just don't get why no boat shoes without socks, especially in the summer. Especially if you have more than one pair and you're airing them out between wearings. What else are you going to wear with shorts? (Unless shorts for grown men are also taboo.) Please advise.
@@TheStyleOG Hmmm - maybe my women haven't been letting me know. Anyway, thanks for the response. Good video and you present [look] like you know your stuff.
Great segment! Leather Honey is absolutely the best leather conditioner... Shoe trees are imperative... Vibram sole savers for all leather soles will extend the life of your high-end shoes exponentially. We all appreciate you my brother. אלוהים יברך אותך
I’ve been getting dress shoes on eBay for a couple years now. I usually look for items accepting offers.. I’ve been able to negotiate $300- $400 magnanni shoes that are priced on eBay for around $200-250 for $80-140 (new).. not all sellers accept a low offer of course but you only need one to accept.
Just picked up some brand new Paul Evans chocolate van damme loafers ($385) for $90. And some new Donald Pliner Alondro Brown driving shoes for $39. eBay all the way
Allen Edmonds has big sales around April and October. That way you get the perfect condition shoe for a little more than the factory seconds. Can I purchase them at full price? Yes. But the name of the game is to keep as much money as possible. Salvatore Ferragamo are very nice also.
Allen Edmonds (Save more w/Factory Seconds), Meermin, Florsheim Heritage & Royal Imperial lines, John Fluevog, Redwing (casual oxfords), and Ralph Lauren (purple label) can all be had for under $300 and are ALL either Goodyear Welt or Blake Stitched.

I bought a pair of Crockett & Jones Alex recently which means I have more than spent this year’s style budget. However, I can still watch this channel as much as I want. Thank you. M.
That sad moment when a 100$ pair is looked upon as cheap/low quality, but it still empties my bank account:/
I feel your pain. This shoe game prices are no joke. I am learning the hard way. But , women do look at the shoes though .

It’s tough, but good shoes can be found on sale if you watch. Over time, they are cheaper if you maintain them
I like Aldos. They're Canadian. They're very affordable, trending and up-to-date. I particularly love they're double monk straps. Check them out man, you might like what you see, most of their shoes are no more than $200. I got the double monk straps (Two pairs) for $80 a piece.

I like Johnston and Murphy. Great shoes for about $200 or more. Also very comfortable.
appreciate the input Joseph!
Yeah Johnston and Murphy are the best. And contrary to this video I got me 2 Shaler Slip ons that are square toe
Allen Edmonds. Classic style and quality have served me well for many years.
Allen Edmonds have sells, clearance, and factory second.
True indeed Cuong!
What was the name of that shoe you in first example? Magnanni?
Allen Edmonds is the best!!!
canibusnj yes they are. I’ve had the same three pairs for 3 years

What's your opinion on pointy toed dress shoes? I've heard some people definitively say no to them but I've gotten compliments for mine.

@@TheStyleOG I hate them. Remind me of high heeled shoes. Lol In the ads online, they never look pointy. Till u get them home

Hi Jeff. what's your take on how and when to where gators & other exotic shoes and belts accessories.
Great topic, the shoe game is serious. I own eight pairs of "first runs" Allen Edmons that are in my yearly rotation. They are worth every dollar.
Good Points. A future thought-I would like to see a video on your shoe collection and styles. Particularly why you chose those styles.

Another great video! Thanks for mentioning the belt... that is MY pet peeve.
Thanks Elliott!
I agree as to buying quality shoes. I have some Churches showed that are over 25 year old and the look like new.
Indeed !
Absolutely love brown! Especially my double monk strap's! And I usually get my loafers n dress shoes from Steve Madden not a bad price and lasts long 4 years? Not too sure about that lol
Hey Style O.G. love the energy, love the tips. Great video Sir
Much appreciated. Love your channel BTW!
Thank you, we appreciate that too
Saksoff5th has great quality shoes that are on sale. That is where I cop my joints and still pay upwards of $200-300 on them. Salute OG.
Hey Style O.G. can you do a video about suspenders, please? thanks
In the works!
@@TheStyleOG Can I get a shout out too? Steve Lang is the name.
I'll put you on the salute list
Good points, although I'm rather curious how it's possible to wear one dress shoe about 30 times a year. I have enough dress shoes for each day of the week and I still wear each more than 30 times a year. How large is your collection?
too many! lol
Great Tips! Thank you !
No problem!
grahcias jeff! youre gentleman and a scholar. good luck brotha
Great video, thank you.
Glad you liked it!
Cole Haan dress shoes all the way. You can find really good deals on their dress shoes as they update the lines every year. You get comfort, support, grip and style with total quality (soles are replaceable). I am not a big fan of leather bottoms, but to each their own.
I've bought a few pairs of Allen Edmonds Fifth Avenues, but got them when on sale. :-). I like the Double Monk Strap by Ace Marks.
As always.. I enjoyed the, video. Great knowledge thanks for sharing bro♥
Thanks Jeannine!
Can't argue with anything you said in the video. Great info as always. Those square toe shoes gotta go....
Appreciate the feedback!
My man the Blackest of all Knights!
NICE!!!
OG Jeff- you hip to Aldo shoes outta Canadia? Tell me your opinion of these shoes, I've noticed a few different style guys here on TH-cam dont really dig em but i love em.
The quality of Aldo is very hit or miss..
Excellent tips, Sir.
Thanks Drew!
My Suit Supply dress shoes get white streaks around the toe folds when I start walking. Any pointers?
Paul Fredrick makes great dress shoes....Ive had a pair since 2011 and had them re-soled once....great shoes
I'll have to check them out..
Haven't shoe trees or shoe bags, been using newspaper, and for shoe bags cut out sleeves from dress shirt, works well keeps em clean
Jos A Bank has good sales on shoes. I picked up a pair of black dress shoes regular price $250 for $80 . That brand and design were changing to the next season design.
That combination you are sporting is nice.
Cheaper brands like Steve Madden and Nunn Bush are nice for awhile but don’t expect them to hold up as long through normal wear and tear.
appreciate the input Elliott!
Another quality video Jeff!
Thanks Tim!
You got me laughing at 'no square-toed shoes.' I'm not the most stylish dude but those shoes look ludicrous!
Ace Marks is my spot Jeff. $295 price point. I learned hard way with those $90 shoes... lol cheers, my man keep up good tips. Ed
I'll have to check em out!
The Style O.G. Sounds like a sponsor kind of deal baby for Jeff ! Check them out. Since you are becoming a big dog in these affairs! Lol.
might have to inquire...lol
Allen Edmonds, Carmina, Skolyx, Crockett and Jones, Crownhill, John Lobb, VASS, Graziano and Girling, Alden, Peal & Co. Those are my purchases.
What about some of those quality shoes I have which are more pointed?
Good video brother keep them coming
Thanks Robert !
Your shoes will smell very quickly in the summer wearing no socks. Wear no show socks..
אלוהים יברך אותך
appreciate it Keith!
One point once again! Viewers should check out Pual Evans and Ace Mark. They run a lot of sales.
I’ve been getting dress shoes on eBay for a couple years now. I usually look for items accepting offers.. I’ve been able to negotiate $300- $400 magnanni shoes that are priced on eBay for around $200-250 for $80-140 (new).. not all sellers accept a low offer of course but you only need one to accept.
great input!
Also keep an eye out for excellent condition preowned. I just got a pair of Mercanti Fiorentini driving shoes for $30.
Lastly If you’re looking for designer shoes for less check out DSW.com
nice!
Just picked up some brand new Paul Evans chocolate van damme loafers ($385) for $90. And some new Donald Pliner Alondro Brown driving shoes for $39. eBay all the way
Cmon og. Your knocking my jeans/sandals game off 😂
all from a place of love! lol
OG do yo leave the cedar shoe tree inside the shoe 24/7 until you wear the shoe?
I do
I am committing all kinds of fashion sins!!!😂😂😂😂
This is very educational, thank you for taking the time out to pour into the lives of others!
No problem Jemel!
Johnston & Murphy makes a great quality dress shoe, very affordable. 👍🏼
I agree Stephen..
Too boot New York, Allen Edmonds, and Mr Bs
3 good ones Jerry!
Does anyone remember elf toe shoes? Those things were/are UGLY AS SIN! May they, along with square-toed shoes, never return.
my man Laufey!
Yes! LOL! They're absolutely horrid..
Nice one. Please do vid on stylish bathrobe's and pajamas.
Allen Edmonds has big sales around April and October. That way you get the perfect condition shoe for a little more than the factory seconds. Can I purchase them at full price? Yes. But the name of the game is to keep as much money as possible. Salvatore Ferragamo are very nice also.
Appreciate the info Anthony!
Allen Edmonds (Save more w/Factory Seconds), Meermin, Florsheim Heritage & Royal Imperial lines, John Fluevog, Redwing (casual oxfords), and Ralph Lauren (purple label) can all be had for under $300 and are ALL either Goodyear Welt or Blake Stitched.
appreciate the input Scott!
